Review
Memories is a short story that vividly portrays the grief and guilt tied together in losing a loved one who has been suffering with dementia.
The story is moving, deeply centered in the difficult emotions involved in the process of grieving. I only read the first three chapters for this review, leading up to an interesting cliffhanger, but I plan to finish reading after posting this.
The writing is not perfect; there is a bit of tense inconsistency, some sentences that are a bit off because of structure or word choice. But overall it is easy to read, understandable, and above all poignant in a way that makes it easy to forget the mistakes. This is a difficult topic to write about, and the author has done so with a great deal of grace.
I would normally write a longer review, but this is a short, concise story, and I don't want to give away details that you should really be reading for yourself. Be warned that you will be immersed in difficult, emotional topics when reading this, but then proceed and enjoy!
