Review
The Legend Of The Horse is a tale of a mythical horse whose golden blood is rumored to heal any wound and a sixteen-year-old girl whose only comfort since her parents died has been the story of that fabled horse. After a brief prologue that tells the horse's legend, we meet Syra, who is waiting for the clock to strike the 16th anniversary of her birth. It is a hollow celebration, though, since her uncle has been a careless guardian since her parents died when she was 5 years old.
When her uncle mobilizes a force of men to march off, Syra also realizes the page about the legendary horse has been ripped from her book of myths. This is the last straw, and she packs her things and runs away.
bailal1 has a very straightforward writing style. It is still developing—there are a number of typos and small grammatical errors—but the story is a quick and easy read all the same. This is a very basic story that reads something like a fairy tale. Syra's character is developed rather well in a short period of time with key details. We know she's had a lonely childhood brightened mainly by her imagination, which relied on the tale of the legendary horse and pretending to be a princess high in her treehouse. The little details given about her imaginings are well chosen to paint an efficient image of Syra's rich fantasy life.
The pace moves along at a quick clip, leaving just enough detail for readers to pick up on what's likely happening without spelling it out or making it obvious.
The writing still has some growing up to do, but it's a strong start. It fits very well as a fairy tale, and would mostly only need editing for typos and grammar errors to turn it into a strong story. Forgiving those errors, what I see so far would make a great book for an elementary school classroom.
