AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Interview with Prachi Vaidya the author of Dawn Without Sunlight
Greetings Prachi,
Hope you had a wonderful day..
Can you tell us about yourself?
I am a 22 years old psychology student. I completed my bachelor's in Mass communication. My dad is in government Service which includes often transfers so, I have traveled a lot within Jharkhand but, one place that I would prefer calling hometown will be Ranchi. I have a small family me, my parents and my older brother and my world is limited to these three people.
When did you first start writing?
Since childhood I had this habit of story making and I don't remember when this habit turned into story writing but, the major writing phase of life came when I was in standard ninth and my then English teacher MRS. Manjari sarkar became a critic and a mentor for me.
Do you remember what you wrote first?
I don't remember the first piece that I wrote, but, I remember the first thing that I consider my foundation was a poem that I wrote for my good friend who lost his life in a road accident.
"Where have you gone, leaving all of us behind
I keep searching for your face everywhere
I think I have lost my mind
No more classroom gossips, no more letters to deliver
The flower you left behind has started to wither
Think about the friends , whose eyes are wet
Think about that girl ,both of your hearts had just met
Please come back for one last time
Give me one last smile and one more hymn"
How did you get interested in writing?
I was an ambivert child and I was never able to share my thoughts and dreams with anyone I mostly did the listening part for others so, this habit of penning down thoughts developed and the journey started. My middle school teachers were supportive and they always motivated me write and keep myself engaged in literary works.
Who are your favorite authors? Why?
I have many favorite authors but, my top three favorites are Jane Austen , Nicholas sparks and J.K. Rowling . Reading the books by Jane Austen is like living in that era the elegance in her way of writing is incomparable. Nicholas spark has been an all time favorite because his works evokes deep hidden feelings and makes me feel pain and joy at the same moment , the way he describes the emotions is very beautiful. And J.K. Rowling, I love her for her stories and the details in her stories. I am a visual thinker and her books take me to another world.
Tell us about your book, mam.
This book is a mixture of science fiction, fantasy, romance and coming of age. This is the story of an eighteen year old girl who dreams of life beyond earth. But, one day when her dream comes true , her world turns upside down. She join hands with refugees from other planets to save the universe. Amidst all this chaos she finds her true soulmate and experiences the first touch of love.
What is the purpose of writing this book?
This story was in my head since forever, I kept adding bits and pieces as I was growing but, I never had the courage to pen it down. I always feared criticism and I was low at self confidence. But, one random day I was feeling lost and I just started typing and the story started. I stopped three months later when I completed the book.
