Interview with MANUSHRI KANORIA, the author of "am I beautiful, yet?"

Greetings Mam..

Hope you are doing good. Let me begin the interview.

Can you tell us about yourself?

I'm an ordinary seventeen year old girl who likes the smell of ink inside the pages of her diary.

i like candies and the smell of wet grass

i like dancing to unheard tunes

and i like reading poetry on the abandoned roofs

When did you first start writing?

I first started writing in class 9. We had been asked to speak in class and we had to choose our own topic. I wrote about the rise and importance of feminism.

Do you remember what you wrote first?

Roughly.

If yes, can you kindly share with us?

The first time I actually wrote something for pleasure and after much thought was when we had been asked to speak in school and we had to choose our own topic. I wrote about the rise and importance of feminism.

How did you get interested in writing?

I was always into dramatics and elocution. When I first heard about spoken word poetry, I became interested in that style of writing.

Who are your favourite authors? Why?

I have many. However, JK Rowling always tops the list. Nothing can replace Harry Potter for me, no matter what my age be.

Tell us about your book, mam.

this book is about acceptance and tolerace

it is about knowing that real beauty comes from inside

real beauty comes after feeling pain

and being moulded by suffering

real beauty is magic

real beauty is you and I

everyday

this book is my pen on paper

it is dry ink and dust

it is needles poking me

it is feeling everything and nothing

all at once

just like heartbreak and love

What is the purpose of writing this book?

Through this book, I would like people all around the world to become more aware and empathetic. This book hopes to bring about a change, specially in the way people treat women, men, the trans and every other human being. This book is about choices and tolerance of these choices.

Yes.

Is this a fiction or inspired from real life?

Real life.

Your views on friendship and love?

Friendship and love go hand in hand. They're two sides of a coin. One loves a friend, and their can be no love without friendship. Love and friendship are essential to live a happy life.

What is poetry according to you?

Poetry is writing to any tune

Any letter

Any word

My fingers linger on

You can imagine me

And these words

To be anything you feel

Poetry is just letting out everything you feel

Who has been your inspiration?

My mother.

What is your passion mam?

Spoken Word Poetry.

How do you feel when you write?

I feel different, more powerful.

What are your other hobbies?

Do sleeping and procrastinating count?

How was your publishing journey with blue rose publishers?

We had our ups and downs, but I would have it no other way.

In the next 10 years where do you see yourself in this writing field?

I don't know.

Keep writing. There will be days when you will feel like your writing means nothing. Youl'' tear up all your sheets and you'll cry. Remember, it is important to write badly to ultimately produce a masterpiece.
