Interview with Vatsal Gourisaria, author of The Rumour

Can you tell me about yourself?

I'm a class 12 commerce student at La Martiniere for Boys whose primary interest is business and entrepreneurship. I happen to be a part a school prefect, deputy secretary of Nature Club, and the Core Committee of Dalal Street( business conclave). I'm also the chairperson of an international committee called the Syndicate which encourages youngsters to present their talent to a larger audience base. I have also written for Blasting News, a US newspaper.

When did u start writing?

I started writing my novel in December. However, my first piece of work started in 2016.

Is this your debut book?

Officially, yes. Unofficially, no. I have two books which I haven't published yet. Nor do I plan on publishing those two.

Why?

Scared to death that they aren't good.

So do you remember what you wrote first?

It was a short story that I wrote for my friend for her homework. Shockingly, her teacher liked it a lot and got it printed in their school magazine under my name.

So tell me vatsal.. how was your publishing journey?

It was weirdly different. It was simpler, nice and a fun process.

Who are your favorite authors?

J K Rowling and Raghuram Rajan

Tell us about your book the rumour?

The rumour as per the preface seems like a typical Bollywood love triangle. But when you start reading it, you'll realise it's very different form the stereotype. It's a completely different ideology that has been worked out for the readers.

Purpose of writing this book?

Entertainment, entertainment and entertainment :p

What are your other hobbies?

I play guitar occasionally; I play squash at times; and like any other teenager my favourite hobby is spending time on phone

Are you planning for your next book?

Have the plot in my mind. But focusing on my college work right now.

What are your views on love and friendship?

You're asking a 17 year old his views on love. Haha. Let's just say it's being with the ones I care about.

Friendship is forgetting all the differences and coming close together to just be weird together.

So.. did u or do u have any crush?

I'll assume it's a celebrity crush xD so yes. Alexandria Dadario, Robin from How I met your mother, and Racheal (Jennifer Aniston) from Friends and of course Priyansh Chopra.

How did you get interested in writing?

It's actually a weird story. I started writing in class 7 because my friends would make fun of my articulation and writing skills. So in order to prove them wrong, I started this journey of mine to write.

How do you feel when u write?

I feel like I'm sitting on top of the Eiffel Tower eating doughnuts (which is the best come scenario for me, more like a dream come true xD)

What is your passion besides writing?

Understanding business and marketing

Where do you publish your other write ups?

I had a blog called you just got Booked. So there.

Did you find any famous books to be boring?

Not a big fan of Merchant of Venice and what the story evolves to.

Any tips for budding writers?

Just write. Don't worry about what others are saying.
