My opinions:
- To be very honest, I was slightly skeptical about this book. Not that it's bad or anything, it's just that many of the vampire-themed books I've read are... not my cup of tea per say. In most of the vampire books I've read, the vampires are either not scary at all or too scary to the point that the 'love' between the characters comes out as forced. In some cases, the characters, storyline, etc. are fantastic but the book have not been updated since like 2015 or something like that. But this book is really good. The first chapter itself already had me hooked which is one of the things I look out for when reviewing books.
- Like I said, the first chapter already had me hooked. The descriptions are detailed yet gives you enough room for imagination. I'm able to imagine how the scene will turn out in my head which is good. The tone of how the scenes are described matches the emotions/actions being carried out.
- The characters are well-developed and thought out. Each character is distinct and their role in the story is clearly portrayed either through their actions or descriptions. I like that the characters were able to develop slowly overtime rather than changing immediately (eg. changing from a cold beast to a fluffy snuggle-buddy in a span of 1 chapter). It's also interesting to see how the vampires are portrayed as having the same needs as humans minus the aging and the need for blood. Personally, I really like, like, like Amaya!!! :)
- The storyline is meant to be in a time frame where the lands still have monarchies and the setting in the story have been made to suit such a time frame. However, I do wish there were more details about the 2 kingdoms and how their lands look like or maybe even how their people lived their lives. I think it would help to make the story flow more smoothly. It's just my suggestion.
- I love this story. I just wished it didn't end so fast. I do wish there was more information details on the development of Amaya and Ryker's love? I felt like their love story was kind of cut a bit short (though I do understand it's for the sake of the storyline).

Recommendations:
I recommend this for everyone! :) It's rated mature but I personally feel that it does not reveal too much nor too little so it's fine to read. I did warn you that it's rated mature so don't blame me if you find it not up to your taste! *wink wink*
I'm quite surprised with this book actually. Many vampire books I've read are pretty messed up... as in the stories are mostly talking about sucking the blood out of people and making babies the next or they haven't been updated for a longgggggggggggg time. I'm a high fantasy writer myself so I've written all sorts of rubbish just to perfect a storyline (or make one) and I know how hard it is to connect the dots together. This book is a good blend of both supernatural and high fantasy. It's interesting to see a book where the vampires are actually very similar to humans with needing sleep and food and such. Most vampires books depict vamps as needing blood 24/7 or not eating/sleeping at all so it's nice to see a good change. :))
I'm also amazed at Courtney's dedication to write. Having ONH AND writing is no easy feat, especially when your sight is not as good as others. I have myopic astigmatism and amblyopia (I hope I spelled that right) in both eyes myself so I know the struggle of having bad eyesight. I admire your dedication and passion Courtney! :)
Thank you for requesting @coolcourtney5 . :) I enjoyed Kindred Spirit very much! I look forward to reading more of your works!
