Even Roses Have Thorns
Title: Even Roses Have Thorns
Author: Silverstep11
Synopsis:
Liesel Rose Lombari is perfectly happy with her comfortable, predictable, goody-two-shoes life, where nothing ever happens that isn't accounted for.
Her weekend plans?
Study for the upcoming math test.
Her social life?
Squelched by soccer practices.
Drama?
Zip, zilch, zero.
Lise has good friends, good grades, and loving adoptive parents - what more could she need, or even want?
But when suspicious things start to happen - events that aren't accounted for - her perfect, predictable life abruptly comes crashing down around her.
Add to that a lifetime's worth of secrets, a past that's set on reclaiming her, and a whole lot of drama, and - well, what could be more unpredictable than all that?
Finding out that she's a werewolf, for one thing.
"Truths and roses have thorns about them."

My opinions:
- Finally a book where the character actually likes math! Let's all admit it, 90% of the characters in wattpad - no matter what genre - dislikes/hates math. I like how Lise's character seemed to be somewhat of a Mary Sue at first but as you read further, you discover that she, in fact, isn't a Mary Sue at all. Lise was portrayed to act as if she was flawless and everything goes well for her but when you read carefully, her flaw was actually her predictable, perfect life. Strange as it sounds, that's what I noticed about Lise when I was reading it.
- It's a werewolf book but I have yet to read a chapter when the concept of werewolves was actually introduced firmly. The most I've read so far was symptoms of being a werewolf but that's it. However, it's good that the concept of werewolves is being introduced slowly and subtly. For example, Lise's 'itchy feeling'. It might sound normal or even what an impatient kid would tell their parent but it actually subtly gives the hint of Lise's supernatural inheritance. The fact that Lise was portrayed to have no knowledge of werewolves at all, yet has obvious symptoms of being one shows the slow but steady progress of Lise's discovery of a supernatural world. I like how the plot isn't rushed like typical (not saying all!!!) stories where the character has symptoms of lycanthropy in one chapter and suddenly turned into a wolf in the next chapter.
- However, I do feel that some details are given out too fast or too much details were used. What I mean is, some details can be used to reveal more about Lise's life in the next chapter rather than cramming it all in one chapter/paragraph. The information is sufficient so maybe it can be spread out? For example, when Lise was looking at the quilt (I think?) she saw a story-like thing happen. Perhaps you could say that Lise was enchanted by the quilt which was given to her by Dora and then discover the story woven into the quilt when she opens it up at home. I'm not saying that your description is bad. I'm merely giving a suggestion of another way of writing it so you can follow it if you want to. I feel that some descriptions were unnecessary and does not contribute much to the plot. However, this is optional because it did allow readers to visualize what the characters were doing better.
- This is strictly a personal opinion but I have another suggestion (I'm being greedy but that's because I liked the story so far :D ). Perhaps you could give more details about Lise before she was adopted/in the early days when her adoptive parents had just adopted her. It could help with connecting the dots of the plot together. I feel like it would be easier to know why someone like Lise would be left in the care of an orphanage and eventually her adoptive parents.
Star Rating:
☆☆☆☆
Recommendations:
For everyone! No werewolf things except for itchiness have been introduced in the story so far but hopefully it will soon. It's intriguing how Lise seemed to have her life and schedules totally planned out with very specific details which were destroyed completely because of one matter that should have been known a long time ago. :)
Thank you for requesting . :)
