City of Fallen Angels
Book: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
"I swear on the Angel." He ducked his head down,
kissed her cheek. "The hell with that. I swear on us."
Clary wound her fingers into the sleeve of his T-
shirt. "Why us?"
"Because there isn't anything I believe in more."
Summary (Containing Spoilers)
A lot happens in this book but I feel like most of it wasn't that important. We get more of Simon what's going on in his life, which was actually very enjoyable because I enjoys Simons character quite a lot.
Clary can finally train in the institute as a normal Shadowhunter and we watch as her and Jace's relationship flourish. Not for long however, because we find out that Jace is actually keeping a secret from Clary - being that he keeps dreaming that he's killing her. Which puts a bit of a distance between them.
Clary also gets the chance to practice her rune drawing powers, when she helps Maryse and Luke, by drawing a rune to communicate to the dead. They don't find much, only a clue pointing to the vampire, Camille. Clary also stumbles upon a clue regarding babies that are being killed because they are being experimented on.
Jace eventually tells Clary about his nightmares and they decide to go to the Silent City for help or if any messages are trying to be sent through his dreams. Instead they find out that because Jace was 'reborn', all the protective spells that were cast on him as a child have been stripped and he's now open to any demonic powers. The silent bothers assure them that they will try to cast the spells back onto Jace but he needed to be left in the silent city alone.
We then find out that Jace is already being controlled by Lilith when he kidnaps Clary and brings her to Lilith.
While all of that's happening, we find that Simon is dating both Izzy and Maia at the same time. He comes clean to all of his friends about being a vampire and his mother basically disowns him. Because of that he needs a place to stay and ends up crashing with Kyle - the new bandmate - who later on turns out to be a werewolf that's sort of a guardian to Simon. Jordan (Kyle) and Maia use to be together and he bite her the first time he turned which inevitably turned her into a werewolf.
Simon is also being attacked by people but nothing happens to him because of the Mark of cane, which protects him and turns his attackers into dust. We have ALOT of Jace and Simon bromance in this book which was always so so funny.
On top of everything, Simon is also dealing with being a vampire and this is shown quite brutally when he attacks Maureen and almost kills her, but doesn't thanks to Jordan. However, Maureen makes a second appearance as a vampire, who shows up in front of Simon as a messenger and threatens his loved ones. Simon obviously goes with her to a woman called Lilith who needs Simons help to wake up an unconscious Sebastian.
A lot of fighting and stuff happens but Lilith is killed because of the Mark of cane on Simons forehead and the whole gang meets up and explains their side of the story. Everything seems fine for a few minutes when we find Jace missing along with the unconscious Sebastian.
Rating: 3/5
Thoughts:
So I kind of hated the whole dead babies bit and skipped out A LOT of those explanations and descriptions because I couldn't handle all of that creepy stuff.
I really enjoyed Simons whole point of view and his relationships with everyone is so extremely wholesome which I absolutely love. His and Jace's lil bromance is ELITE and so funny! I cannot deal with their interactions and then his relationship with Izzy is so so cute. If I have to re-read this book it will most likely be because of their relationship.
THE JACE AND CLARY RAIN SCENE OMG!! I LOVE and adore any kind of rain scenes so I would like to thank Cassandra Clare for that one because it was just...wow.
Cute/Memorable Lines:
■"Everything that happens to you matters to me."
■ "...Old ties exist between the Herondale's and the Brothers. We owe him..."
■"You and your name-dropping," he said. "'I knew Michael.' 'I knew Samael.' 'The angel Gabriel did my hair.' It's like I'm with the Band with biblical figures."
■ "And I would do it again. I love you, Jace Wayland-Herondale-Lightwood-whatever you want to call yourself. I don't care. I love you and I will always love you, and pretending it could be any other way is just a waste of time."
■ "Is that a coat-hanger in your hand?" "Yes just incase you were a demon."
"Or a person with a lot of coats."
