DAIZY STAR AND THE PINK GUITAR
I was not aware that Daizy Star was a series until -sahi mentioned it, so here we go, book 2 of 4.
First of all, some praise for Cathy (I know, what a shock).
I found out that Cathy actually did all the illustrations for the Daizy series herself, and I'm honestly impressed because they're quite cute and fit the stories perfectly. So kudos to Cathy for the drawings, because they really add to the story.
Again, it's written for younger children, but I did find it a little bit more interesting than the first. In this book, Daizy gets a pink electric guitar for her birthday, and her dad comes up with another crazy scheme, this time that the family will move to Malawi.
THE BAD BITS
First of all, the dad is just as selfish and irresponsible as he was in the first book. He just casually announces to the family that they're going to move to Malawi - has in fact already signed them up for this volunteer program - and expects them all to just drop school, work and friends to move to the other side of the world for him. It's kind of shown as "haha stupid Dad having a mid life crisis" but this is more than a mid life crisis at this point, this is a selfish irresponsible man child putting his crazy ideas before what's right for his wife and young children.
So Daizy has her pink guitar and comes up with this idea to enter a band competition in order to raise money for Malawi in hope that that will placate her dad. She's incredibly big headed about her guitar playing, assuming that her guitar teacher is speechless because he's amazed at her skills, believing that she'll win the competition without a doubt. It gets really sickening.
I'm really glad her band (The Honey Badgers, lmao), don't win, because at least she doesn't get rewarded for this arrogance.
The dad goes out to Malawi by himself and decides it's too hot and impractical for his family and abandons the idea, yay.
Overall, this book was pretty simple, and certainly wasn't bad, just kind of bland. I rate it maybe 1/5.
