This was such a beautiful book.

"In the first minute following her death, Tequila Leila's consciousness began to ebb, slowly and steadily, like a tide receding from the shore. Her brain cells, having run out of blood, were now completely deprived of oxygen. But they did not shut down. Not right away..."

10 minutes 38 seconds is one of if not the best book I've read this year. Our main character is "Tequila Leila," a prostitute in Istanbul who is murdered. In the 10 minutes after her death, she recounts her life events and what has led her to this point, which is some of the most powerful writing I've ever read. The power of the friendship she had with her five lifelong friends is truly touching.

This book is an intensely powerful and beautiful story of love, friendship and death. I recommend it to everybody.
