Mathis the world's greatest pickpocket, he likes to call himself. But it is far from the truth. And when Mathis steals Velaveth's last hope, a small, pink stone, from a cruel tyrant, his life and his country are at stake.

If it were up to Mathis, he would hand everything over to someone else, someone who might actually care about trivial things like saving the world and such. But a feisty Tocchish girl by the name of Solene has her heart set on the adventure that comes with the small rose colored stone, and she's dragging Mathis along with her.

What neither of them realize, however, is that a life of darkness and despair is the only thing that awaits them.
