Chapter Five - Master

In the far corner of the land stood a castle.  Black slim covered its walls and bones belonging to animals, demons, fairies and humans sat at the bottom of the algae filled moat.  Gargoyles restlessly guarded each entrance and turret and snarled at any birds or bugs that dared to fly near.  Spikes, dipped in black magic flames, protruded from the castle's walls, unseen to any human eye for sunshine never reached this corner of the land.  It was forbidden.

Giants, as tall as the Eiffel Tower, stood guarding the main and only entrance.  Yellow eyes, crooked rotten teeth the size of small cars and feet the size of olympic swimming pools.  Two of them always stood guard, holding their clubs the size of Boeing A380s.  An awful cheesy smell radiated from their oily skins.  Part-ogre was obvious.

The only beautiful room in the castle was the Great Hall.  The walls were made of stone, crystal and lava.  A luscious crimson thick carpet made out of blood and the finest wool in the kingdom lined the walkway from the Great Hall entrance and up the crystal stairs leading to the most exquisite and deathly throne ever made.  Made out of black crystal, the back of the throne stood high and almighty.

A man sat on the throne.  A man with black and red pupils, nails as long as matchsticks and a heart as cold as ice.  His name was Master.

A small withering pathetic demon, covered in blood, was cowering at Master's feet.

'For the final and last time, where is the boy?' yelled Master through his razor sharp teeth.

The demon howled fearfully and covered its body with its thin arms.

'I'm ... I'm sorry Master.  I .... I don't know.  I lost ... lost him.'

Master roared, grabbed his staff and thrashed the pathetic demon with it.  Blood splattered across the floor.

'Where did he go?' thundered Master.

'I nearly had him but the boy escaped Sir ... into another story.'

'I told you to make sure he wasn't near any books!'

'He ... he wasn't Sir!  He had help.  A pretty girl helped him.  She wrote on the wall and they escaped together.'

'What do you mean by wrote on the wall?  And what girl?'

'She wrote a story on the wall.  One I've never read before.  I think she's an Author Sir.  I didn't hear her name.  She looked like the same age as the boy, slim body and copper hair.  Please ... please Sir, please don't kill me.'  Master shoved the pathetic withering creature away.

This was news.  Young Eric now had a girlfriend, a girlfriend who was an Author.  The boy was practically begging for trouble.

'But ... but Sir, one more thing, if you may...' the creature begged.

'What is it?'

'A few seconds after the boy and girl disappeared Sir ... he reappeared.  The boy reappeared alone and he was ... angry Sir.  Very, very angry.  He ... he told me to tell you Sir, he told me to tell you to leave the girl alone.  He ... he told me that if you don't leave her alone Sir, he ... he will ... um...'

'Tell me!' screamed Master.  He slammed his staff down hard on the black marble flooring.  The demon whimpered and the rest of his words came tumbling out.

'He would find The Author and erase you Sir.'

Master laughed.  His laughter filled the hall and echoed down the corridors.  Finally, thought Master, if the boy wanted to play, he would play too.
