"ALANI! COME BACK!" Mother screamed in English. If she ever got caught saying Hawaiian at the schoolhouse the consequences would be very bad. When I finally locate where it is, I see a mob of the English men marching to the Iolani Palace, carrying a flag that I would many years later recognize as the American flag. All my friends caught up to me and looked in the direction I was gazing at. The moment we saw men with weapons heading to the palace, my friend Malie and her sister Nohea ran to their mother, their father was part of the Queen Liliuokalani's cabinet. They must have sensed that something could go wrong and potentially end up fatherless. They started walking towards the Palace, the men chanting, "overthrow Monarchy". Wait, what's 'mon-ar-ky'? Then they start saying, "Hawaii shall be a U.S. territory!" Oh no, I know what they're talking about now. With tears in my eyes, I ran to Mother in hopes that she could comfort me and tell me I was wrong but sadly all hope for Hawaii was lost, we would no longer be an independent country with that kind of military parading on our streets. We hoped that the Americans didn't notice us or they would not come to pursue our islands as they did for the others in this ocean. I didn't understand very well about what's going on when, out of the blue, the guys with weapons started to attack us. There was chaos in every direction, white farmers driving their pitchforks into natives' flesh, the clash of metal against rocks, a sound heard every time I turned my head. We burst into the home looking for necessities and found someone who hasn't been here for a long time. My Father was there packing things up. "Let's go, the boat is almost here." I ran up to him, happy that my father was home...Home, my mother hoped that we would just mingle in the sea for a little while, then come back to our island when it was safe, but my father sounded as if it was final and we would never return. My thoughts were interrupted by a scream. More specifically Iolana. without much thinking, I run out to see what happened, only to find myself watching the murder of my beloved sister. The evil Englishman was approaching her, she was already mortally wounded near her abdomen. The Englishman was armed with a blade that most likely was already covered in my friends' blood. As he neared her many more men came out of the riot to help assassinate my sister. He took the blade and brought it close to her. Tears slid down my face, she was always afraid of sharp objects. I tried to get through, but I was too late, and an ear-splitting shriek was heard to confirm it. I thought nothing else could possibly be worse than this but I was wrong. Malie and Nohea screamed from the palace, "Queen Liliuokalani has yielded her authority!"
