Parental nurturing
I'm sorry that I can't protect you,
When you're no longer an adolescent,
But you won't allow me to,
I understand that you might push me away,
Once you no longer need me,
Your pride and ego will be swelling,
As you go on your own little journeys,
Without me by your side for the first time,
And I know that I can't stop you,
I can't influence your decisions,
I can't tell you no,
I can't pick you up like I used to,
I can't tickle you like I used to,
I can't hug and kiss you in protection when you've fallen over,
But remember this;
I'll always want to.
You'll always be,
The first thing that springs to my mind,
In a morning and when I hear of an accident,
You'll always be,
The only person I phone to check is alright many times a week,
You'll always be,
My baby,
So the next time,
You think I'm being embarrassing,
Or the next time,
You want to shout at me,
Keep in mind that you're my everything,
And I say all of the things I say,
To try and have some protective power,
And keep in mind,
That I won't be here forever,
But while I am,
I'll do everything I can,
To look after my baby.
