Everyone knows Levi loves (Y/N). It wasn't exactly a secret. They were open with their relationship, which was confusing to say the least. He would hold her hand, kiss her and even call her 'babe' every now and then in public. (Y/N) would hold his hand just as tight, in lax situations she would call him Shortcake - something he loved hearing - and she would kiss him back.. They had the perfect relationship. Although, he never asked her to be his girlfriend, and he wouldn't say it either. In the rarity they went into town, most people started the conversation with Levi instead of (Y/N) - that was always a mistake - when asked who (Y/N) was to him, he would click his tongue and move his gaze to the side, away from (Y/N). (Y/N) would then respond for him saying that she was his girlfriend and pick up the conversation from there.

Another thing Levi did, he never said 'I love you'. (Y/N) had said it several times after a year of being 'together'. The first time (Y/N) she exclaimed her love to him, adding at the end that she knew he would never be able to say 'I love you back' whether it was because he didn't truly mean it, or because his pride wouldn't let him. He wanted to tell her then that he did indeed love her, but she had a meeting with Erwin, about what, he didn't know. He didn't care either, he just didn't want Erwin to touch her, or even look at her. He didn't want anyone to look at her that wasn't him. In his eyes she was an angel.

"Be careful out there, (Y/N)." Levi said to his entire world.   

They were currently mounted on their horses ready for the 57th expedition.

(Y/N) smiled at him, "I will be, I'll be by your side. I'm not on your Squad for my looks you know." (Y/N) winked while giggling. They got together a year after she joined the squad

"Yeah, yeah. Just come back home safe."

"I will as long as you keep my home safe." Her home is him. Him and his beating heart.

"I will. Keep mine safe."

"I will."

And so the expedition began. It was horrible. Everyone in the right wing died, many of the back extra defense died protecting Eren. They weren't the only ones. Nearly all of the Special Operation Squad died except for the Captain himself, and the person the Squad was assigned to protect. Captain Levi Ackerman lived because he wasn't there when the fight ensued. Eren Jaeger lived because his friend Mikasa and Captain Levi saved him from the mouth of the Female Titan.

Captain Levi had seen the corpses of Petra, Oluo, Gunther and Eld, on the way to fight the Female Titan. He hadn't seen (Y/N)'s. He hoped that she left and got away. That was until they were on the way back..

He looked back to where his fallen comrades lay lifeless, just being able to see some of their bodies. Looking back he saw one more.

"Mikasa, take Eren. I'll meet you with the others momentarily." Levi ordered.

"Yes, sir." Mikasa said, taking the unconscious boy from under Levi's arms.

Levi traveled down to where he saw the body he didn't manage to see before. The body was split in two. Bitten off right at the heart. The bottom of the body a few feet away from the top.

"(Y/N)..." Levi mumbled under his breath. "No... not you too. You said that you would stay safe. You didn't listen..." Levi didn't realize that tears had started to roll down his cheeks uncontrollably. His sobs racking through his body as he held the top part of his beloved girlfriend's body. "I never got to say that I love you. I love you so much."

Mikasa arrived back outside the forest and Eren was immediately taken care of.

"Where is Levi?" Erwin asked Mikasa.

"He looked back for a moment before telling me to take Eren. He went down to something. A corpse I believe but I couldn't make out who it was."

"Alright, thank you, cadet."

A heart wrenching scream was then echoed through the forest making it to the ears of the Scouts just outside the forest.

Erwin knew immediately who it was screaming and froze at the sound. Everyone froze. They all knew it Levi. After a moment Erwin called for Hanji who was racing into the forest a moment after the scream that shattered everyone ceased. Mike followed as well being able to use his very abnormal sense of smell to track down the man in question.

They found him next to his lover, his entire world, everything he needed in life to continue living.

That was the day Mike was no longer Humanity's Second Strongest Solider, but Humanity's Strongest Soldier.

Captain Levi Ackerman had committed suicide next to the corpse of his one true love. His blade piercing through his heart, mimicking how (Y/N) was bitten right in the middle of her chest through her own heart.
