He Should Be Just My Teacher - Diana x Ryan Haywood

Dedicated to @ArtemisRose97

My name is Diana. I'm a senior in high school. I'm eighteen turning nineteen over next summer. I'm not the oldest in my grade. Most of classmates are turning eighteen during the school year, there is also a nineteen year old. Anyway, my favorite subjects are math and science. English and Social Studies, well I'm not so good that those topics. My English teacher this year is a new teacher, his name is Mr. Haywood. I find out that his name is James, but likes to be called Ryan, his middle name. I know this because every girl loves him. And yes I mean loves him. I would be lying if I said I wasn't attracted to him. He's really cute. He has blue eyes and dirty blonde hair. It's his first year teaching. He just graduated college. That's not some big secret though. If you ask anyone in the school that knows of him they will know that. Ryan is probably about twenty three. He can date some of the girls here that are eighteen. I live in one of those rare states that allows teachers and students to date if the student is of age. The student just can't be in the teacher's class. So I got no shot...oh well I mean I wouldn't want to date him.. Right?

"Diana! Pay attention!" Ryan... I mean Mr. Haywood said.

"Sorry Mr. Haywood...."

"Speak to me after class."

Sighing I went back to copying notes. Good thing I have lunch next period.

The next twenty minutes that remained went slow. I hate english. Even if Mr. Haywood is really cute.

"Yes Mr. Haywood?" I asked going up to him now that class is over. "I know I don't pay attention much in class, but why did you need to talk to me?"

"It's not really about your lack of attention. It's more about your grades. I can tell you are a bright student Diana. You aren't going to pass if you don't pay attention more and do well on this next exam."

"Look Mr. Haywood, english just isn't my thing. You want know about math and science, i'm your girl. English is boring. Reading Hamlet is boring. The only thing somewhat interesting about it is how much of a creep Hamlet really is. Other than that trying to figure out what Shakespeare is saying is a waste of time."

"Alright. I understand, where you are coming from. I didn't exactly like english for a time period when I was in high school. The my teacher junior year opened my eyes and that's why I became an english teacher. So I'll tell you what. Meet me at the local library at 3:30 after school tomorrow and I will tutor you. I want you to pass this class so you don't have to worry about taking extra english classes in college."

"Alright. You got yourself a deal. I'll see you there. In the back by the fantasy section, the one that needs a good dusting."

"I'll see you there."

I can't believe that just happened. I CAN'T BELIEVE I AGREED TO THAT! This is going to end up being my end... I don't know if I can make it through the next seven months if he is going to be tutoring me constantly. I mean, yeah I want him to! But.. ugh he is so cute...

---three months later---

"Daina, do you get this now?"

"Yeah. I think I'm startin' to get it. Thanks Ryan!" Yep, Ryan and I are on first now basis outside of school now and I completely have a crush on him. I've gone to his apartment before when it is too loud at the library, sounds weird I know, but it's true. He's met my mom and dad. I have asked if he could come over to tutor me and they said yes because how could my parent turn it down? They want me to get good grades. One of them is always in the room though. Although they seem to like and trust him which scares me a little sometimes. Like they have invited him over as a friend for dinner... SUNDAY DINNER! That's big. You know my parents like you when they invite you over for Sunday dinner.

Ryan looked at me and raised an eyebrow at my grammar.

"Sorry, Mr. Haywood. Let me rephrase that. Yes. I think I'm starting to get it now. Thank you Mr. Haywood." I said with a laugh and sarcasm. Did I mention we are at his apartment now? Cause we are.

"Alright alright. That's enough for today then. Library tomorrow?"

"They don't have good heating there. It's way too cold to go there. I hate February for that reason."

"I thought you'd say you hate February because of Valentine's Day like other girls. That don't have dates."

"Nah. I don't mind it. It's just another day to me. One day I know I will have a date and all will be good."

"Well, why don't you come over on Sunday? I can make you dinner."

"James Ryan Haywood! Are you asking me to be your Valentine?!" I said with a fake shocked expression. A blush also creeping up on both of us. I'm trying to play it cool. BUT IT IS HARD WHEN YOU CRUSH JUST INDIRECTLY ASKED YOU TO BE YOUR VALENTINE!

"I- uh.."

"The english teacher is lost for words." I chuckled. "I will be here at 5 sharp Sunday. Tomorrow, I'll meet you here at around 4:30. I still need to have a social life with my friends." I was packing my books and getting my jacket and shoes on to leave. "Oh and yes, I will be your Valentine. Just don't tell anyone, you are still my teacher. See you tomorrow Ryan!"

I walked to my car and left Ryan dumbfounded. Maybe english class isn't so bad.

---Two more months later (April)---

Ryan and I are officially dating. My parents know and they are okay with it. They like him and trust him. Like I said, it scares me a little but I am glad they like him. Makes it easier on me. We don't want anyone to know. He is my teacher. He isn't giving me any special treatment though. He is tutoring other kids at the school's library too, he started doing that the same time he started tutoring me. It's like he knew exactly what he was doing when he said he would tutor me.

"Diana, babe, did you finish your homework?"

"I would have finished it if you didn't give us a two page reflection on Psycho to write. Science and Math was a piece of cake, and I don't really get Social Studies homework.. But this reflection.. Do I have to do it Rye?" Rye or Rye-Bread is my nickname for him.

"You know the rules. No special treatment." Ryan said and kissed my cheek.

"Yeah yeah. I will get it done by the due date. I still have another two days to do it. Let's play some Halo!"

Turns out Ryan is big on video games just like I am. I found that out on our second date. It was the date a new video game came out that I waited a really long time for. When he found out, basically he demanded I came over so we can play together. He was going to wait on playing it just so we can have a date. But since we both love video game he said he wanted to play it with me. I didn't complain. We helped each other out with it like when it came to getting the co-op achievements. I like to get all of the achievements in a game just like my best friend Ray. Although Ryan doesn't care about getting all of the right away he does like the get them.

"Get some more of the reflection done while I set it up. I may be your boyfriend but I am still your teacher for a few more months."

"Oh yeah. Are you going to graduation?"

"Yeah, for you and the school wants me to be there anyway."

"OH! I am having a graduation party with family afterwards. My parents want you to come."

"I uh- I suppose I could come. Are you sure that's a good idea though?"

"Oh, yeah. I guess not."

"Daina.."

"It's fine Ryan really. I need to finish this and you need to step up Halo."

I knew I shouldn't have asked. It was like this at Thanksgiving too. My parents are always the ones to invite him. I never do, but I always get happy thinking my boyfriend could come. He never does though. It gets annoying sometimes. He knows it get's annoying too. There isn't anything I could do though. He should be just my teacher...

---End of May---

Ah lunch. The only time during the day I can do whatever I want. I could drive home for a little bit, I could go out to get lunch with my friends, I could do a lot. I think I am going to out for lunch today, just me though. It is a really nice day and I would like to join it.

"Diana!" My friend Gavin yelled. Welp, I guess there goes me going out for lunch. "Follow me!" Gavin grabbed my wrist and dragged me forcing me to follow him.

"What's going on Gavin?" I said.

"You'll see."

Gavin dragged me outside the school to the football field. There was a group of people standing there. Most are my friends, and a few teachers are out here as well, Ryan being one of them. In the middle was my friend Michael holding roses. My friends Lindsay, Meg, Ray, Jeremy and Matt stood behind him holding posters. Gavin pushed me in middle so I was standing in front of Michael.

Michael smiled, and said as my friends turned the posters around so I could read what was on it, "Diana, will go to prom with me?" Michael said handing me the roses. He was really nervous.

I smirked as I saw a furious Ryan, Looking back at Michael I smiled saying, "Yes!" I took the roses and hugged him. Everyone else cheered.

As I walked back into the school with Michael and my friends, I noticed Ryan had already started to walk back inside, steaming with anger and jealousy.

I just got to Ryan's for our daily tutoring session so I keep passing english. I could tell he is still annoyed.

"Ryan, if you aren't going to focus. I'm just go home. I have other homework that needs to be done." Ryan didn't answer. "Are you really that upset that I am going to prom with Michael?! It's not a big deal we are just friends!"

"For now! You to are going to have to spend a lot of time together to get ready for prom! Then what happens when you realize you like him back, and you leave me for someone age, someone that could give you more than I can, someone that you can share college life with!"

"Ryan that won't happen! I don't like him! I like you! Just because I'm going to prom with him doesn't mean anything. If you could go, you wouldn't go with me anyway! You never do! You don't need to give me anything you just need to be you like you have the past few months! I can't believe you are making a big deal out of this! After prom the chances of me seeing him is slim to none! I'm not going away to college either! I am going like twenty minutes away so I can come home every weekend to be with you! Was I wrong to make that choice? Forget it....I'm going home. I have other work that needs to be done... maybe we should as take a break.."

"Diana wait don't go.."

"Sorry Mr.Haywood. I need to pass my other classes to."

With my bag now on my shoulder I turn to leave, but Ryan grabs my hand and pulls me back kissing me. My first kiss. I drop my bag and start to kiss him back.

After I minutes Ryan pulls away and rests his forehead on my mine. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have over reacted. I'm just jealous.... Really really jealous. Honestly I am also afraid that you will want to leave me for someone younger... I know you like me, but I just can't help but be scared sometimes that you will leave me for someone younger."

"I'm not going anywhere Ryan. I'm not going anywhere."

"Can I kiss you again?"

"Yeah." I smiled. It's almost cute how he was scared of losing me, but he isn't going to. I'm going to stay right by his side.

---A few days after graduation---

Ryan and I are finishing up a mini graduation party by finishing eating a cake we made together. It is.. Er was.. vanilla with chocolate icing. Now we are running around trying to get icing on each other when my phone rings.

"People have really bad timing! Don't you dare try anything while I am on the phone."

"I won't." Ryan laughed.

I answered the phone and put it on speaker because there is icing just all over.. "Hello?"

"Hey Diana is Lindsay!"

"Hey Linds what's up?"

"We are all going to the beach want to come? We are going to stay to watch the sunset."

"Sure." I looked up to Ryan so to see if he wanted to go. He shrugged his shoulders, I'll take that as a yes. "Hey Linds, can my boyfriend come?"

"Michael already agreed to go."

"He isn't my boyfriend though Lindsay."

"YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND AND YOU DIDN'T TELL US! HELL YEAH HE CAN COME I NEED TO MET HIM!"

I couldn't help but laugh at her statement. "Alright what time are we meeting up go? I need to wash icing off of me."

"An hour good? Met us at the beach, me when you are there, I am going to leave now to get spots."

"An hour is perfect. My boyfriend and I will see you soon."

"Awesome see you soon! Bye."

"Bye."

I hung up the phone and smiled up to my boyfriend. "Go get ready, I will pick you up in fifteen to leave for the beach."

"Alright."

He gave me a peck on the lips then went into his room to get ready, and I went home to get ready.

--at the beach--

"Hey Diana! Mr.Haywood?" Lindsay said as we walked up to were my group of friends is sitting.

"Please, just call me Ryan." He smiled.

Everyone just looked me like 'what the fuck.'

I laughed a little. "Guys, my boyfriend Ryan, Ryan my friends." They all know each other so there is no need to formally introduce them by saying there names.

"Are you too really dating?"

"Since February." Ryan smiled.

"Don't worry about the details right now. Let's enjoy the beach!"

--Sunset--

We are all sitting watching as the sun does down. I'm leaning on Ryan's chest looking at out at the pretty colors of the ocean as the sun is setting.

"Hey Diana."

"Yeah Rye?"

"I love you."

"I love you too."

As the sun was just disappearing into the ocean, Ryan leaned down and sweetly kissed my lips, i couldn't help but smile as I kissed him back.

The End~

Bonus:

---Four years later September---

I've officially graduated college and I on my way to my first day at my new job. Ryan and I are still together, in fact, we got married in July. He proposed my second year of college on our anniversary, at the beach during sunrise.

"Ready to go Mrs.Haywood." Ryan said pecking my lips lightly.

"Yeah, I am Mr.Haywood."

I am a teacher now. Not an english teacher, I could never be an english teacher, but a science teacher. Ryan really showed me that school isn't that bad. I knew I couldn't continue my studies in high school, but I wanted to be there, so what better thing to do than to become a high school teacher? Now Ryan and I are working where we met. It's an odd love story, but what love story isn't? This is our love story, and I couldn't love it more.

Ryan should have been just my teacher, but he is so much more, and he always will be.
