Zephyr Collins. The girl that got struck by lightning. All she needs now is a scar on her forehead and she can star in a freaking Harry Potter movie.

I have to admit though, she’s kind of pretty.

I wonder why she stays with that loser Cole.

But of course. He saved her. Note the sarcasm. Brave little Cole. And now he follows her around like a lost little puppy, making sure no harm can befall her. Though I’m not sure which one of them is the actual pet, since he has her on a leash. Deciding everything for her like she doesn’t have a mind of her own. I wonder if he chews her food for her too.

Cole Rees. I hate that punk He thinks he’s so much better than everyone else. He even stole my spot on the team. But not for long.

I smirk as I eye Zephyr leaning against the bleachers. She’s watching the game with vacant eyes as if she isn’t really paying attention. Which is probably the case. She doesn’t really seem interested in basketball. Or in anything at all for that matter as far as I can tell from the few times I’ve seen her.

Around me everyone is screaming, but I don’t watch the game anymore. My eyes are on Cole’s precious girlfriend. I wonder if she’s any good. Would that be what they call ‘Ride the Lightning?’ I laugh at my own joke.

Then she waves and I follow her gaze.

Cole. Of course. He gives her a half-smile and sips his water. It’s time-out with only a few seconds left on the clock. Who cares if we win? It’s just a stupid game.

I notice how Zephyr stays at the sidelines instead of going to Cole. She doesn’t join the others either, those that are swarming around him. Not much of a people’s person huh.

The game starts again, but it’s over before you know it. Guess who scored the winning point?
Already people are swarming around him to congratulate him.

I roll my eyes. Why does he have such a big fan club anyway? It’s probably just because he has supposedly saved someone’s life.

That’s when I notice his pet did not join in the fun. Instead she’s trying to make a silent getaway.

I smirk to myself. Not gonna happen. I have a little message for Cole. And I want to have a closer look at lightning girl. I cut her off at the gym doors, seconds before she can make an exit.

“Sup Zephyr?” I ask and give her a quick up and down. I was right. Not bad at all.

She looks at me like a deer caught in the headlights, ready to bolt. Well too bad. I’m not done yet.

“Hi.” The reply comes hesitantly and she seems suspicious of me.

I need to keep conversation going before she calls out for help.

“Some game huh,” I say and take a step towards her which she responds to with taking a step back.

“Yeah…” she say slowly and her eyes scan my face.

I laugh inwardly. This is almost too easy. “How have you been?” I ask.

I watch as she tries to find some alternate motive in this small talk. Well surprise, there is.

“Pretty good,” she says. Again with the curt answers. Am I not good enough to talk too? But I know I can’t drag this out much longer. I dare a quick glance over her shoulder, if Cole decides to show up now everything is ruined. He’s already gathering his things. I smile to myself and return my attention to her. “Tell Cole I said….,” I pause for a moment. How best to formulate this? “Tell him I said my time’s almost up and I’ll be back on the team before long. And he should watch his….” I give her another once-over and smirk. Yes, not bad looking at all.  “He should watch his property.”

The look on her face is priceless. I chuckle and disappear.

Once I am outside, I overhear some of the guys talk about some party at Justin’s house. They’re inviting Cole and Zephyr too.

Zephyr at a party? From what I’ve just witnessed she’s not one for parties, but if I can mess with her head some more… and preferably with Cole’s too….

Heh. I think I’ll just invite myself to this party. Not like I have anything better to do.

‘You better watch your belongings Cole Rees,’  I think to myself, ‘before you know it, it will all be gone.’
