Animal Crackers

• Translations at the end •

Alexander typed frantically on his laptop. He had been assigned at least three essays and was done with two of them last week but this third one had him so lost.

He had to write about who he was? The things that made him happy? Alex had no idea what to write for this!

He had typed fifteen different essays for this one prompt, but he wasn't satisfied with any of them. None of them seemed sincere.

His stomach made a sound. Alex took an animal cracker from the bag next to him and plopped it into his mouth. His stomach grumbled again in protest.

His eyes were drooping. He hadn't slept in a week, he was weak, he was awake. His computer had gone into power save mode a while ago and it was hard to see the words.

Alex wasn't sure what time it was anymore.

He didn't even know why he was still working on this stupid assignment. He did two of them. And had fifteen versions of the third, he could just turn in which ever!

No. It had to be perfect. Alex needed to know for himself what made him happy.

There was a knock on his door. Maybe it was his roommate, Burr. He had left a while ago, mumbling about how he couldn't be stuck in the dark room any longer.

Maybe it was day time.

But Burr had a key.

Alex ignored it.

They knocked again. Alex reluctantly pushed his laptop aside and tried to get up. He then found out the circulation in his legs was slow from sitting too long, and fell to the floor. He knocked over a stack of books with him.

"Alex? Are you okay?" A frantic voice asked, knocking again. He recognized the voice. It was John. Okay.

Shit. It was John. Alexander quickly got up and fumbled to the door, slowly opening it.

He did his best to smile up at the freckled boy but he ended up giving a creepy vibe, the dark room making it worse.

"Hello...John." He spoke, his voice raspy.

John looked down at him worriedly. "Alex, are you alright?"

"Yes just...working." Alex mumbled.

"Oh...okay. Sorry to bother you, just wondering if you wanted to hang out." He said, blushing slightly.

Alexander's stomach growled again as he tried to speak. John look down at his belly, furrowing his brow.

"Hold on." Alex walked back into the room and grabbed his bag of animal crackers.

John followed after him, sighing. "Alex this room is a mess." He wandered to the window and opened the curtain, letting the sun rays bleed through.

He watched as Alex plopped the small cookies into his mouth.

"Alex, did you remember to eat today?" John asked, leaning down closely to his face.

Alex blushed and looked away, not saying anything.

"That's it. Let's go grab some food." John huffed, crossing his arms. Alex looked up at him in protest.

"I have work to do John! I have an essay to write and- "

"Fine then we'll get delivery. I'm ordering Chinese, that okay?" He asked, pulling out his phone.

Alex nodded slowly and sat on his bed. He grabbed his laptop and began typing away frantically again.

"Ah ah ah!" John scolded and moved the laptop aside, sitting in front of Alex.

"John!" Alex whined, his hands began to shake, he needed to get this assignment done, and he needed John to stop being such a distraction.

John took his hands and stared at him. Alexander did his best not to look at him. The way the sun came into the room and hit John's face made his freckles and eyes stand out more. It was too overwhelming.

"What's your essay about?" John whispered. With his thumbs, he rubs circles against the sides of Alex's hands.

"Who I am and what makes me happy to lead me to that or something." Alex mumbled, feeling his ears heat up.

John said nothing. There was silence in the room. Just them holding each other's hands and John staring at him.

Alexander's stomach was what broke the silence. He groaned and pulled his hands away from John's, wrapping them around his belly.

John sighed and softly turned Alex around so he was laying against him with John's arms wrapped around him.

Alexander's face was on fire. He wasn't paying attention to the complaints of his stomach anymore. He was being held by John and he was tired beyond imagination. He just wanted to sleep.

He did his best not to think of the essay and closed his eyes, falling into a deep sleep.

"Alex...wake up." John whispered.

Alex groaned and snuggled closer to John. He heard giggling in the room.

"Alex please..." John mumbled, blushing madly.

"Mon cher, It seems he has no intention of awaking."

"Probably finds his new bed more comfortable."

Alexander ignored his friends and shook his head back and forth, causing John to erupt into laughter.

"Alex please! That's- my- my neck!" John laughed. Alex smirked and maybe it was that he was starving and sleep deprived but he began placing kissed against John's neck.

John gasped.

Hercules began laughing loudly.

"Alexander, do you not have an essay to write? S'il vous plaît descendre le cou de John!" Lafayette whined.

Alex's eyes widened and he pushed himself away from John, covering his mouth. John was staring at him with wide eyes and his face was so red one of his freckles probably sizzled off.

"I am so sorry!" Alex cried, getting up, grabbing his laptop and sitting at his desk.

"Mon ami, what are you doing?" Laf asked, trying to stop laughing.

"I have work."

"Alex, you have to eat something!" Herc said and closed Alex's laptop again. "Your food is already here!"

"Guys stop! Thank you for everything, I'll eat later! Please let me work!" Alexander protested.

John got up and stared down at his angrily, but there was worry in his eyes. "Alexander Hamilton. No one can survive on determination and a few animal crackers! Not even you!"

"Mon cher Laurens is correct, petit lion. You must eat."

Alex was quiet for a long time. "But...what if I'm determined to survive on determination and animal crackers?" He asked quietly.

The boys laughed at that but confiscated his laptop and put the Chinese food in front of him.

Herc stood behind him and John and Laf on either side of him.

They sat there for about fifteen minutes and waited for Alex to finish his food. He tried gobbling it all down at once but the boys stopped him, afraid Alex would choke himself to death.

"You see! That wasn't so hard, was it?" Herc asked as Alex took his last bite, pouting.

They all leaned in and kissed him. John and Laf on his cheek and Herc on his head.

"May I have my laptop back now?" Alex asked, blushing.

"Non non non! Not yet mon ami!  You must let yourself relax before beginning your work again. Besides, I bet Johnny here would like you to continue working on him." Lafayette chuckled.

Hercules cleared his throat and nodded. John stood there, staring at the ceiling, his face red again.

"Now now, Laf. Maybe we should just watch a movie." Herc said.

Lafayette shrugged but agreed. They all sat on Alex's bed and set up a random Disney movie Alex had lying around.

"Alexander, if this room is still dark I swear
I'll- " Aaron started but was cut off by a pillow flying at his face.

"Comment osez-vous interrompre le temps de détente de mon petit lion?!" Lafayette yelled angrily.

"Burr, what the hell is happening?!" Thomas asked, staring down at Aaron who now lay on the floor. "Oh hello, Lafayette." He waved.

"Jefferson?!" John gasped. James stood awkwardly at the door as well, coughing.

"Oh, Laurens. Here hiding from Seabury, eh? What, scared that he'll eat at you with his words again?"

John growled and Hercules and Alex stood up angrily. Lafayette jumped on Herc's back.

"CHARGE!" He yelled and Hercules began running, chasing a laughing Jefferson and annoyed Burr down the hall. James just sighed and followed Thomas.

The remaining boys laughed and John turned to Alex. "Guess I better go." Alex smiled and turned off the tv.

John stared at him for a while, watching as Alex grabbed his laptop again. Alexander caught him looking.

"Listen, John I am sorry for earlier!" Alex started.

"Oh it's okay! I shouldn't have moved you against me in the first place. And sorry about Thomas, the annoying bastard never shuts up and j- "

"You aren't mad at me? We're still friends?!" Alex asked. John laughed and ruffled his hair.

"Of course we are! I'm not mad at all! Besides I wouldn't mind you doing it again..." John mumbled.

At that last bit, Alexander walked up to John, grabbed his collar, stood slightly on his toes and kissed him.

When they pulled away, they were both blushing and smiling.

"Well, Laf was right about one thing." John said.

"What's that?" Alex asked, staring at him.

"I wouldn't mind you getting back to work on me." John smirked.

Alex burst into laughter and pecked him on the lips again. "Go after them, Laurens."

John smiled widely, kissed his cheek and ran out the door. "I'll be back!"

Alex chuckled and opened the a new document on his laptop. The prompt stared back at him on a sticky note on his laptop screen.

Who was we and what made him happy enough to know who he was?

Alexander knew exactly what to write.

mon cher: my dear
mon ami: my friend
s'il vous plaît descendre le cou de John: please get off John's neck
(mon) petit lion: (my) little lion
non: no
comment osez-vous interrompre le temps de détente de mon petit lion: how dare you interrupt the relaxation time of my little lion

Kill me oh my god can I not write anything else that isn't Hamilton?! Specifically lams?! Ughhh I'm so sorry guys...
