How About Seven?

Genre: Action

Summary: "You know what they say," she smirked. "Two's company and three's a crowd......."

I crossed my arms and looked at her, my expression cool and uncaring.

"Oh really?" I shot back. "How about seven then?"

The first guy is a killer, the second guy wants to kill me. The third guy manipulates, the fourth guy is using me. The fifth guy betrayed me, the sixth might just be in love with me. And the final guy? He's out to destroy my family.

Sigh. What can I say?

Men.

+Cover

I like it. It's intriguing and relates to the genre; action. It reminds me of all the action movies I have seen where there is always a masquerade ball where the lady moves around in a mask.

So you did well there.

+Title

Okay, I love your title. It isn't anything fancy or hard to remember and that may just as well be the beauty of it. It is completely related to the story though one would never guess how until they read the summary.

+Summary

The only problem (and it isn't really a problem) is the lack of spaces between the lines. It would look a lot more attractive if you did that. The actual content of the summary gives nothing away yet it made me curious as to what the book was about.

Well, to be honest, I actually thought it was going to be a kind of superhero book with one girl and seven boys fighting over her. So yes, I was pleasantly surprised.

But maybe you would like to make the summary even clearer so that the readers won't be confused or turned off by it. Because if I were the one about to read, I am sorry to say I wouldn't have checked it out. But after reading the first chapter, I fell in love with it and basically couldn't put it down.

So improve on your summary and you can pull in more readers 

+Plot

This is one thing I have to commend you on. I have read many similar books but nothing like this. Initially, I thought that it would be a normal superhero book where the girl is normal and the boys are all back of her. Then I changed my opinion to maybe even the girl had hidden powers.

But BAM! There was nothing even remotely superhero-ish about this book. Just a couple of awesome jackasses and a kick-ass protagonist from the Mafia family. How cool is that?

+ Characters

Hayley: There aren't enough words to describe how amazing she is. She is a bad ass but she has enough faults of her own to make her relatable. She is crazy and quirky and her inner thoughts are a blast to read. Her actions seem to be calculated carefully and she does seem to belong to another world. I just wonder how she could be so good with mingling with people if she was locked in her house for nearly her whole life. Is social interaction taught to the girls for future?

Hood: It's just so very hard not to ship them. I know you have seven guys but then I ship her with him. XD of course we only know at the end of the book with whom she ends up with. (I have a feeling that it is going to be the mysterious Thomas though I still hope not) He is a bad boy but not in the typical sense. Is he the "third party"? So it makes him a great character rather than your typical bad boys who turn out to be not so bad in the end.

Damien: That boy is hiding something. I think her assumption in the chapter where he sits for them with lunch may be right. He may be who she thinks he is...... of course, there isn't any proof since we see the story mostly from her side but well, who knows?

Jasper: Okay, he is creepy. Yet I adore him. I mean he is the perfect villain without being over the top. I admit, I love villains who are silently cunning and manipulative (Lelouch of Code Geass!) rather than outwardly flashy villains who are frankly quite boring.

+ Chapters

Length: I quite like the length of your chapters. They are long enough to be interesting but short enough for the readers not to get bored.

Drawbacks:

You say that she never left the manor. But does that mean she was always kept in her bedroom? That she wasn't allowed to roam around even IN the manor? That isn't explained to clearly I feel. So it would be awesome if you could expand on that.

And in the first chapter you have her introduce her family in a very confusing way. The only relation I actually understood was that of her father, his two brothers and their children. I still don't understand how Jasper, Damien and Thomas are related to her.

If she didn't get to see movies, how come she understood the Mission Impossible reference? Or all the references she made for various TV shows, movies and anime? Oh, and how come she had a boyfriend? Were the boys of the house allowed to interact with her even though she was basically held in captivity?

A bit more clarity on her life in the manor would be very much appreciated.

Positive:

This wasn't what I had been expecting. What was I expecting? I don't really know but it wasn't this. Maybe I thought that the female lead would be from the 'good' side so to say. But you gave me a pleasant surprise. I so do love Mafia stories especially when there is a quirky, funny female lead. Which ....... surely is.

I truly enjoyed her monologues and inner thoughts. It was entertaining as well as informative. We learnt a lot about the family and how they work.

Good work on keeping up the mystery. Who is Thomas? Why was he killed? What betrayal? And is Hood really the Stalker? I mean he never admitted it himself so..... the possibilities are endless!

I also loved the various references you use (Sherlock, Ouran, Assassination Classroom). I have a feeling that all the people in the family were allowed to watch Assassination Classroom only because of the techniques they could learn from there (leaving out the fact that most of them are outrageous and physically impossible). Normally I would hate pictures being put in middle of the story but it seemed to strangely suit the narrative.

But the thing I loved most is you didn't show her to be totally indestructible. She managed to get away from Hood but not without revealing her identity. You made the fight scenes realistic so it was not one sided. Jasper is an a class a**- hole (like most of the family actually) but I still adore him. Good job on that.

+ Conclusion

This is one book you should read if you love quirky, bad-ass female protagonist from the Mafia family who is underestimated just due to her gender. I would recommend it for all action lovers who would like to see some Woman power!
