All Times Bagan Failed to Get into Film
A/N: This page goes over all the films bagan failed to ever manage getting into film.
Resurrection of Godzilla (Tanaka Proposal) (1980).
The first of two scrapped versions of the film where he was called Bakan. He would've acted as a shape-shifting creature that had 3 forms: a monkey god beast, water god beast and dragon god beast.
Resurrection of Godzilla (Nagahara Draft) (1983).
Bakan sort of had the same in this draft like in the tanaka proposal. However, whenever bakan would transform, he would heal himself. Once he fought godzilla, he would haft to go to the form know at Totem Bakan. But he wouldn't be able to shape-shift and heal himself anymore and would be killed by godzilla.
Mothra vs. Bagan.
This would be the first time he would be called Bagan from now on. He would still carry the 3 forms thing. But he would have a spirit god beast, dragon god beast and demon god beast forms instead. That would soon be dropped and just give bagan one form. That being the red demonic one on the picture which was intended for the film.
Godzilla 3.
It was to follow up where mothra vs bagan left off. However, more info to bagan's backstory would've been added as he was allegedly created by aliens who were also responsible for the ruins of the Nazca civilization in Peru. But both Mothra vs Bagan and this were both scrapped due to Godzilla vs Biollante doing poorly at the box office and didn't want to take chances with a new monster.
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1990).
(The only picture that could match the saying of the title).
Not much was known about this one except that it probably got scrapped the same reason as the other 2. The godzilla vs mothra thing would come back later with some elements of bagan's story put in there.
Godzilla vs. Bagan (1991).
Intended to be a sequel to godzilla vs biollante, godzilla was yet to have another shot at fighting bagan. However, with King Ghidorah turning out one of the most popular monsters in polls among Japanese audiences and Toho's 60th anniversary rapidly approaching, the idea was canned. So yeah, Ghidorah got to suffer another ass beating.
Godzilla vs. Bagan (1995).
According to Takao Okawara, Bagan may have been planned for another film titled Godzilla vs. Bagan in 1995. Okawara stated that while Godzilla vs. Destoroyah was being planned, he had heard about Godzilla vs. Bagan, but did not know any details about the plot. Rumors at the time suggested the story would be very much like Godzilla vs. Giant Monster Varan. Which Varan was described as being a "harbinger for the end of the world," awakening in 1999 and dead set on ending all life, but ended up being defeated by Godzilla and LittleGodzilla. though not set in the future. Bagan took the place of Varan, with Mothra and the Gotengo from Atragon set to appear as well. This too got shelved.
(Also yeah, at one point, they were gonna make a film where Varan was going to end the world).
Rebirth of Mothra Trilogy and Yamato Takeru II.
(Once again, only best representatives I could find).
Now, this is according to the book Heisei Godzilla Perfection, Bagan was to play a role in the unmade sequel to the 1994 fantasy film, Yamato Takeru, alongside The 8 Headed Dragon, Orochi. He was also considered by Koichi Kawakita to make an appearance in the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy. Whether or not he was going to appear in one film or be a recurring villain is unknown.
So that's 9 films (11 if he did appear in the rebirth of mothra sequels) where bagan has been Scraped. He only appeared in two games: Super Godzilla and Godzilla Movie Studio Tour. He did get a character icon. Kinda hard to see though.
If Bagan will ever truly appear in a Godzilla film is unknown. He still has somethings that separate him from others monsters and some of that concept could be used in The Upcoming World of Godzilla Cinematic Universe. Only time will tell.
Bagan: "Sighs" just kick me by the curve while you're at it.
