flashback .. before steve

was placed in the mental home

he was at the river

drunk on cheap whiskey

he'd decided to swim far

center of river

seemed he'd a death wish

for he'd swam in combat boots

army boots dragged him

down below surface

twice under .. i'd seen his face

devil's agony

a dude in a boat

raced out to him .. third time down

steve .. he'd almost drowned
