Influences Chapter 3
Encre's P.O.V
I gripped the fur of Red's wolf as he grunted and padded his way through the brush and over thorns that had no effect on his paws. I relished the feel of the warm air on me and the light that shone down from the trees. I don't normally go outside when it's daylight for good reasons. Fallacy reasons.
I gave into the urge to run my hand through his fur. Feeling the fluff of his fur that got washed because Frisk said he was starting to stink or at least his wolf was, which she wasn't wrong. Now he smelled of strong Vanilla that made him stir and irritated when I commented on it once he transformed into his wolf.
I shifted on his back and looked down as I watched the ground move past us. I was craving the temptation to slide off his back and walk on my own, but I knew that was off limits. Even Red has restrictions and I bet that's one of them.
Red usually tries his best to get me moving around and away from the boring. Fallacy does have surprises but he's been very unfair lately. He view's everything as a hazard to my and the child's health. Red sees activity as a positive to our health and thinks it'll relieve stress.
"Can we go to the pond?" I asked wanting to feel the water and see the fish swimming.
His wolf halted and I knew he was pondering with the thought before switching direction. I smiled knowing where we were going. Red showed me where the pond was and now I always want to go there. I'm trying to understand how we got so close. I remember when he shriveled his nose in disgust and could practically spit at me. Now he seemed more chill, more understanding, more careful and caring. This was a side I still haven't gotten used to but I was happy to see it.
Ahead the view of the water caught my eyes and my attention snapped to it while my mouth opened a little with awe. The pond was absolutely gorgeous. The wolf grunted again in its satisfaction as he lowered to the ground and I slid off his back smoothly. My feet hit the ground but they were planted to the ground as I wobbled for a few seconds before recovering my stance.
"You always like this place." Red said besides me with amusement in his tone, "Then again I like this place too."
My head turned towards him as I was swept up by curiosity, "You never told me how you found this place."
Red's eyes flashed with an emotion I don't normally see but it has been noticeable a few times, "My brother took me here when I was younger and this is where we'd train."
I was puzzled, "But this is Vampire's territory."
Red's hand reached the back of his head as he rubbed it uneasily, "Yeah, I know but I guess that was the thrill of it. If we got caught then we'd put our training to good use, but when we did the blood sucker's kind would never be too happy."
I turned my head back to the lake and started towards it, "Did they ever do anything?"
Red nodded, following me and coughed out a smile, "Fallacy gave us the pond so the blood suckers could leave us alone. We weren't causing any harm so Fallacy didn't see why we couldn't have it."
I made an O sound and sat in the grass, "That was nice."
Red sat beside me, "Yeah, that's also the reason why I decided to help both your sorry asses with king weasel."
Now that made more sense. I always wondered why he truly decided to help us months ago. I guess that might be why he visits so often. Red cherished this pond because it held memories of his brother, and Fallacy gave that pond to him. Red, at a level, cares about Fallacy. Maybe he's thankful for what Fallacy did.
Red laid back on the ground and sighed loud and long, "I come here sometimes with Frisk, but she can be a stubborn little shit because she always wants to play in the water." Red chuckled and moves to get more comfortable on the ground, "She always splashes me with the damn water too."
I smiled, "Do you have fun?"
Red laughed out loud, "I always have fun with her." He paused for a second as he gave himself time to relax, "She makes my life interesting."
I would lay down but I was scared that once my back was on the ground I wouldn't be able to get back up. I'd be stuck like a turtle with my belly a little too big for me to do much.
My hands propped me up from behind as I gazed out at the water, "She's a good influence on you." I didn't know how he felt about her or what he classified her as, but I thought hard about it and at a point came to the conclusion that maybe he was falling for her. Just the thought of Red finding happiness through his darkest times sparked joy. He deserved someone like her in his life.
Red grumbled, "She's tried to get me to soften up but I hope she knows that I won't soften up. I'll stay cold and dangerous so I can remain at the standards of my Alpha position." He nodded his head as an almost 'matter of fact' gesture.
I patted his shoulder, "Sure you will."
"Do you doubt me?" Red looked up at me with a hint of amusement in his eyes.
I rolled my eyes at him, "She'll get to you at some point."
Red's eyes softened and he nodded, "You know, I don't doubt you."
Afterwards we fell silent for a good few minutes before I spoke up again, "So, what do you think we should do?"
Red looked out at the pond as he thought but before he could say anything a foreign voice spoke behind us.
"I have a few ideas."
