3. Paramarashtra
"How many times do I have to tell you? I DO NOT HAVE A SISTER!" Leena was shouting at Pruthvi.
After my one not-so-worthy conversation with my aunt my stone started burning, asking me to rush for lunch. I thanked Ruchin for letting me use the Call Logs and walked back to the lobby. I saw my friends sitting on our usual table and when I joined them Leena and Pruthvi were having this interesting conversation.
"May be you never knew," Pruthvi said, "May be your parents lost her somewhere."
"What, do you think my parents are from a Indian movie?" she asked annoyingly, "Losing one of their children in a busy exhibition. Come on Pruthvi, you really hacking me off."
"Tell me a good reason why there isn't a possibility."
"Look, my dear boyfriend," she said trying to be patient, "I am Savant, Leena Savant. Princess Lithika is Swaraj, Aghasthya Swaraj's granddaughter. Does this piece of information cracks your hard nut?"
"Okay, sweetie listen," said Pruthvi turning completely to face her, "My dad changed his entire name, not to mention his ethnicity. He went from Nawab Khan to Ketan Krishna. So why can't your father go lengths to alter his last name?"
Leena opened her mouth but shut it quickly unable to give him a proper answer.
"What is it about?" I asked frowning. I watched Tyrell and Celina already immersed in eating and not at all interested in the topic.
"Oh! Remember Lithika, Princess of Sharad?" said Pruthvi to me, "Doesn't she looks exactly like Leena?"
"Yeah she does," I said helping my selves with the food, "May be, it's just a coincidence. Looking alike doesn't mean you are related."
"Thank god," said Leena looking above at the ceiling, "Atleast someone has the same opinion."
Tyrell looked up and said, "You are right Hayden. Look at me, everyone tells me I look like Shemar Moore. Does that make me his brother?"
Pruthvi almost tripped water from his mouth when Celina laughed derisively.
"I thought it was only me who never found you funny," she said still controlling her selves, "But I was wrong. You are funny!"
"What is that supposed to mean?" he shouted at her.
But she didn't reply but laughed along with Leena. Other started staring at the girls and chatting indistinctively. I and Pruthvi exchanged looks sniggering slightly.
"Okay," he said, "I may be exaggerating..."
"You think?" she asked wondering.
"Fine!" he cried, "but we are off the topic. Hayden did you talk to your aunt?"
He was successful in changing the topic. Celina finally brought herself together. She looked at me waiting for my answer.
"I did and I did not," I said raising my eye brows.
"Is that some kind of riddle?" he asked, "because I am really bad at them."
I whispered bending nearer to them so that no one else could hear us. "I just can't believe police reached my aunt."
"Whoa!" said Tyrell, "What are they doing there? Eating pizza?"
"Will you stop talking about pizza," scolded Celina.
"They reached your aunt?" asked Pruthvi stunned, "She didn't sell you off, did she?"
"No of course not, she pretended I was someone else very smartly. But she didn't forget to mention that she is aware about doctor very much and that he is here."
"What about him?" asked Leena.
"She asked me to stay closer to him till police stop searching for me. Man, I am so busted."
No one assured me, as I really wanted someone to. No 'it will be alright' and 'we are there for you'. They just looked at one other awkwardly.
At once the lobby doors opened and I watched the doctor entering inside. Following him was the lady I had seen previously. They stepped onto the main table and I saw him gesturing, for her to sit in Yamini's place.
"Who is she?" said Pruthvi looking at her over Leena. Others from the next table also lifted their heads to have a look at her.
"Never seen her before," said Tyrell.
"I did," I said. All four of them shot a look at me. "Only five minutes ago when I was on my way for the call logs. Gosh! Don't look at me like that."
"Everyone, can I have your attention please!" said the doctor. Thanks to him, now everyone focused their attention on him.
He continued, "There are two things I have to share with you. First, as announced you are welcome to go outside of the academy. And I know you have been waiting for it for a long time. But I am sorry that I have to place a contingency with it."
I whispered, "Please, not about the news!"
"Hayden Mackay has been spotted!" he said making my hair at back stand. There were few gasps from other tables and my friends exchanged glances. The woman on the table gave me pitiful look.
"It just came to my notice that he had been spotted using his stone (Although I wanted to shout 'I was not using my stone!'), police is searching for him. Therefore I suggest Hayden to meet me in my cabin after this lunch."
I nodded when he looked at me for my answer.
He continued, "Now that I cannot take any chances, I request Breaking Samagraha to not to use their stone when they are in the outside world"
"Awwww!" That was the sound of disapproval coming from them.
"What about us?" whispered Leena.
"Come, on Leena," said Celina, "No way can we can use ours even if we have permission from the president."
"And secondly," doctor said, "I am pleased to welcome this young lady sitting beside me as our newest member in the academy. Now that Mrs. Yamini is missing, she is here to serve you. Please welcome Ira Zutshi."
Together, the twelve of us gave her a welcoming applause. Doctor shook hands with her and she thanked him respectfully.
"Thank you for listening to me. Now you can resume your lunch." Doctor said and went to sit at his usual place.
We turned to face each other once again.
"What must have happened to Mrs. Yamini," said Leena, "She was a nice lady."
"That's only because she never gave you any work," commented Pruthvi. Leena, with Naomika, was assigned the job to assist Mrs. Yamini in the kitchen. Leena always used to say that they never had anything to do as Mrs. Yamini never gave them much work.
"Yeah that may be a reason," she said shrugging, "But seriously you guys, she was really a nice lady. Hey, wait a second, does this mean now I have to work with that new lady now?"
"Some ones golden days are over!" said Tyrell, teasing her.
Leena joined Naomika to meet the newly appointed member. Tyrell, Pruthvi and Celina retired to their rooms, whereas I was on my way to meet doctor. I walked very slowly, taking enough time before I met him. All these conversations raged in my mind. I imagined him shouting at me saying thing like- "What were thinking", "How dare you put everyone in danger". How would respond him back? I would I deal with him?
I entered the training room and slowly towards his cabin. But before I put my stone into the knob I heard doctor speaking.
"Are you sure?" he was saying in an exciting voice.
"Yes," said a womanly voice, "I am pretty much sure. My sources cannot be mistaken."
It took a second for me to realize who it was-Ira Zutshi. I stepped much closer trying to hear what was all that about.
"Ira," said doctor, "It's good that she is hiding in Paschimgarh. She should be safe there."
"You are right doctor. But you are missing a point. She will safe in Paschimgarh only if Shashi's minions aren't aware about this. If I can see her roaming on the streets, Shashi can too, right?"
"No," said doctor fearfully, "Shashi cannot reach her. Ira, you have to do something. Use your abilities and try to keep her in a place where no one can find her."
I took another step closer in curiosity. I have never seen doctor worrying so much for anyone.
"I am on it, doctor," she said, "Don't worry. But I don't understand. Why can't you keep her here, in the academy? Don't you think she deserves to stay with her family, with her brother?"
My mouth dropped. Now I understood what they were talking about. This was definitely about Zarina's great grand daughter, Pruthvi's sister.
"I can't do that, Ira," doctor said, "This is the only remaining safer place for Hayden. Poor boy, he can't even go out, now that police is searching for him. If I bring her here, Shashi will be unstoppable. He is in the situation where he needs her more than he needs Hayden. It's better for them to stay apart at least for a while."
I turned back aside. My heart hammered when doctor linked me and Zarina's great granddaughter. The other thing that bothered me was why Ira was involved in this. How she knew anything about all of these. Doctor must have brought her here for valid reason. I swallowed hard bringing my senses back. I had eavesdropped enough for one day and decided to go inside. So I put my stone in the knob and pushed it. As the door began its garage chain sound, I noticed they immediately stopped their conversation.
"Sorry to interrupt, doctor," I said acting like I haven't heard anything, "Is it the right time to meet?"
"Of course Hayden," said Doctor changing his tone, "Come on in. We were almost done. Thanks for the information Ira."
She nodded and started walking outside. She gave me her pitiful look and as I caught her eye she smiled and I know she didn't mean it, so I faked it in return.
When I was sure Ira was gone, I said walking towards him, "Doctor I am really sorry..."
"Don't apologize," he interrupted, "I know it's not your fault. If there is anyone to be blamed, it should me."
That did not cheer me up at all. He was making me guiltier.
"I don't understand," I said sitting.
"Your stone is the most uncontrollable one Hayden. If the situation was in my hands, I could have definitely come to your aid."
"You were deceived Doctor. You were jailed. No one can blame you for that."
"You are not wrong Hayden. But I am to be blamed for my misjudgment. I could have been more careful."
I smiled at him faintly.
"So what happens now," I asked feeling tensed, "with me I mean. I am not allowed to go outside am I?"
"Of course you are not," he said immediately, "I can't take any risks. Police are going lengths for you. And why not, it's their job."
"I know. I'll be careful"
"I know you will be," he said smiling. "Now speaking about the job, there is something I want you to do."
I stared at him with fill excitement. I was waiting for this moment for so long.
"Are you giving me a job?"
"Yes," he said nodding, "You were successful in finding Pruthvi, Hayden. It was very brave of you."
"I was lucky, doctor. Hadn't I heard Anmol, sneaking at that night, I could have never reached Pruthvi."
"Let's take it in another way," he said, "Many could have avoided the suspicious conversation. But you stepped up. It was highly appreciative."
"Thank you."
"Now that I know what you are capable of, I want you to find someone else."
"Who?" I asked.
"Mrs. Yamini."
"Her?" I asked, "But I thought she is friends with Anmol?"
"And your meaning is?"
"I may be wrong, but Yamini must also have abandoned us, like Anmol. She could be on Shashi's side"
"Your suggestion does not have any proof Hayden."
"May be, but you can't bail out on what I said...can I ask you something? Why do you want her founded? Now that you appointed someone else, isn't is best that we let her go?"
"I can't do that. I appointed Ira temporarily. We needed someone to prepare meals for us. And besides, Yamini is my friend."
"Anmol was also your friend."
His expressions hardened which was telling me that he was offended.
"I am sorry but..."
"I know you don't want to...but I really appreciate if you accept the job. If Yamini also had turned her back onto me, I really like to know the reasons."
"Fine," I said unsatisfactorily, "I'll do it. But if I can't go outside, how can I..."
"Yamini is from Dakshinpur, Hayden," he said, "And I know you will figure out something better."
I nodded, unable to disagree with him.
"Is it okay, if I ask my friends to help me?"
"Of course you can. You are strong enough to take care of them."
I smiled thankfully, that he had faith in me. I looked away; I wanted to ask him something but wasn't sure how.
"Is there anything else you want to talk to me about?" he suddenly asked making my heart skip a beat. I quickly made up my mind to ask him.
"Doctor, I...I talked to my aunt. I used the call logs. And...she mentioned that she is aware of you running this academy."
"Hayden," he interrupted, "Your mother is from Dakshinpur. Everybody in Dakshinpur knows me and your aunt isn't an exception."
"How did she know you are in Florida?"
"Because, I used to meet your mother when she was alive. Hayden, haven't you ever thought why I started this academy close to you? Because it was your mother's idea; she asked me to stay close."
"She did?" I asked. How can I not know that my mother used to meet him?
"Yes," he said, "I don't know why, but your mother always thought that if not her, may be her child was going to be the next Samagraha."
I nodded. I couldn't ask for more. Let's just say, I wasn't ready to learn about every secret my mom left behind. Luckily Doctor asked me to leave then as it was getting late and I was thankful to him for thinking as a capable for giving me another job.
After my short discussion with doctor I was walking towards my room, thinking about everything he had told me. My mother knew I was going to be a Samagraha! This thought was making my head churn which I really wanted to not to care so much but it wasn't helping me much.
I was walking down the aisle and almost passed Tyrell. We were careful enough not to bump into each other.
"Oh! Sorry!" he said moving aside, "Where have you been?"
"I told you I was going to meet doctor didn't I?"
"Are you done?"
"Yes, I guess."
"Then come to Pruthvi's room. Everybody is waiting for you."
He pulled me towards Pruthvi's room, catching my hand. I didn't understand why he was so hyperactive all of a sudden. He knocked Pruthvi's door and it was Leena who opened it.
"So?" she said looking at me. I found Pruthvi and Celina staring at me too. They were already there waiting for me to tell them about what had happened.
"So, what?"
"Are you allowed to go out or not?" asked Tyrell restlessly.
"Of course I am not going out," I said flinging my hands, "What? You thought doctor would turn into a mouse or something so that I can sneak out."
"Ewww...." commented Tyrell. Celina glared at him.
"Damn!" said Pruthvi, "So for how long you have to stay here?"
"I don't know" I said sitting beside him on his bed, "As long as I am not on top of the police criminal list may be."
"Don't worry," said Tyrell, "We will go out for you, Pruthvi can record everything and you can see outside beautiful world."
He started teasing me but before anybody could retard him I started spilling out everything else doctor told me.
"Guys, he gave me a job."
They stared at me, waiting for me to continue.
"He has asked me to find Yamini."
Leena's mouth dropped. "Yamini!"
"He indirectly asked me to go to Dakshinpur and for that I need your help."
"I don't understand," said Celina shaking her head, "Yamini is Anmol's friend. She must be with him."
"I told him the same. But he thinks Yamini can never betray him. Seriously you guys, I don't want to find her. I know she is going to turn out like Anmol."
"But a job is a job," said Leena, "You have to take it, right?"
"I already said yes. So, what you guys say, will you help me?"
Tyrell was the first to react. "Don't worry dude. We worked as a team to find Pruthvi. We will definitely find her."
"I am in too," said Celina smilingly.
I looked at Pruthvi who was staring Leena. A silent conversation was passing within them.
"Pruthvi?" I called, "How about you?"
He sighed and said, "I would love to help you Hayden. But I can't. I think I have something else to do first."
"Like what?" I asked impatiently. Celina looked at Leena questioning her.
"I need to find my sister," said Pruthvi gently, "And I thought I'll start as soon as Doctor allows us to go outside."
I looked away. The instant he mentioned about his sister, my thoughts drifted to the conversation I heard between Doctor and Ira. I wasn't sure if I should tell them about it.
"Leena?" asked Celina, "Do you have anything to say about this?"
"I am so sorry Celina," she said holding her hand, "I decided to go with him."
Celina's mouth opened. She had an expression like her best friend not being loyal to her.
"When was this decided?" asked Tyrell warily.
"The very next day I came back," said Pruthvi.
"And you both thought it was not important to tell us?" he asked.
"It's not like we shouldn't tell you or something," he said moving towards Tyrell, "We thought we will when the time comes."
"Okay let me make one thing clear," said Tyrell angrily, "Before you guys started this boyfriend and girlfriend thingy, we are friends. And any decision we make, we make it together."
"I know...."
"Pruthvi your sister is in Paschimgarh" I said suddenly, closing me eyes, grabbing everyone's attention once again.
"Say what?" he said turning towards me.
I spilled everything detail by detail so that they couldn't question me anything I didn't know. There was a silent for a minute when I finished talking and then Tyrell asked me a very weird question.
"How is it you always you know anything before we do?"
But I was ready with the answer. "Because, I am always present in the right place at the wrong time."
"So that's why I couldn't meet Ira," said Leena, "She was busy discussing, with doctor."
"Look," I said, "I know it was wrong to eavesdrop but..."
"No!" interrupted Pruthvi, "Actually you did the right thing. Now I can finally come to a decision about where to start from."
"What does that mean?" asked Celina.
Pruthvi walked towards his desk and opened his drawer enthusiastically. He slid out a paper from the bottom of the pile.
"Check this out," he said sitting in the middle, so that all of us could see. I stared down. It was geographical map of a certain location shaped like a walnut.
"Paramarashtra!" exclaimed Leena looking at the title.
"Yes," said Pruthvi, "I tried to research about Dakshinpur but I couldn't find much about it anywhere in the internet. But in some site a very old man about hundred and fifty years old, claimed that there is a country or a continent that follows India's certain cultures and traditions. It was left alone because people from this place follow dark and dreadful supernaturalism. That location or a continent is called Paramarashtra. (Pruthvi pointed at the outline of the map). This continent is divided into five monarchies-The northern most is Uttharameer, the eastern most is Purvachand, the west is called Paschimgarh, the southernmost is Dakshinpur and central part is called Madhyakshetra."
"Whoa!" said Tyrell, "So they are all forgotten kingdoms."
"Most probably," said Pruthvi, "But Sharad and the Rawat are the only chief dynasties in this continent, so forgotten kingdom does refer to Dakshinpur specifically. Purvachand, Paschimgarh and Madhyakshetra have their own kings and kingship. And Uttharameer, it is also called the desert of snow. It consists of extreme temperatures and for that reason, the local kings have migrated to other places years ago."
"So, you mean this is the Paschimgarh, doctor was talking about?" I asked pointing at the west side of the map.
"Yes it should be."
He folded the paper and put it aside. I was impressed with the research he had done before hand and with his determination to find his sister.
"So, what's the plan?" Celina asked.
"As of now," said I, "Tyrell, Celina and I will go Dakshinpur to search for Yamini. And Leena, you did the right thing to decide to go with Pruthvi. You both should go to Paschimgarh."
"Wait a sec," said Tyrell, "There is no way doctor going to send them to Paschimgarh. Don't you think you will be in trouble, Hayden?"
I shot him a look. He just made a very good point. "Yes. You are right. Doctor should never know that I heard them talking. We have to tell him something else."
"Actually I don't think we have to tell him anything," said Leena making us frown, "We can tell him we are going to Dakshinpur with you and we will come with you. From there, I and Pruthvi can take a detour-to Paschimgarh."
