Chapter 20: Visitor 8-14-16

"Kneel, the king will be here any moment," one of the soldiers said.

Pippin kneeled before the empty throne and waited. All of a sudden, he felt something run down his face. He touched his cheek and saw that it was blood.

"Oh no," he whispered to himself.

He stood and turned to the soldiers. One of them grabbed his arm. Pippin pointed to his face and head and exclaimed,

"I have to get back to Gandalf! He said my head is broken! He is the only one that can fix it, please,"

"Not until you talk with the king," the soldier said and pushed Pippin back into a kneel.

Pippin scrunched himself into a ball on the ground and held his head in his hands. It felt like it was about to explode and he couldn't think straight. His ears were for some reason burning and he heard a distant ringing noise. Then he hears rapidly walking footsteps and a tapping noise; Gandalf and his staff. Pippin looked up slightly and saw him blurrily coming his way.

"Fool of a Took! I told you to stay in bed!" Gandalf cried angrily, "Get up,"

Pippin tried, but could not seem to move. He tried speaking, but also could not seem to speak. His brain wasn't functioning correctly.

"Is he yours?" one of the soldiers asked.

Gandalf looked to him in annoyance and boomed,

"Of course he is! Didn't he tell you? Pick him up and follow me,"

The soldier's only hesitated a moment and then they lifted Pippin and followed Gandalf.

"Quickly now!" Gandalf said and opened the door to the room Pippin had been in earlier.

Next, Pippin felt himself being lowered into a bed even though everything was a blur. He saw Gandalf's face above his and he was saying some quiet foren words. Gandalf had one hand on Pippin's shoulder and one on his head. Less than a minute had gone by and Pippin could see regularly again and he was less foggy.

Gandalf's face was still above his and he realized he was staring off into space. Pippin blinked to let Gandalf know he was still with him. Gandalf sighed in relief and sat down in the chair next to the bed again.

"Go get the lady of Rohan," Gandalf ordered to the soldiers who were still watching off to the side, "Quick!"

They left only leaving Gandalf and Pippin in the room. Pippin was motionless looking up at the ceiling, only blinking every couple minutes, which wasn't normal. Once they were open it felt like they were glued open, but he would eventually have to blink out the dryness.

"Look at me," Gandalf commanded softly, "Slowly," he put in.

Pippin moved his eyes to look at him, but he couldn't seem to move his head.

"Turn towards me I mean," Gandalf went on.

Gandalf watched Pippin's fingers twitch a little shakily and then his mouth opened to speak, but closed it a second later to find out that he couldn't find the words.

"Move your hand again," Gandalf pressed on.

Pippin obeyed the best he could, but was only able to move his fingers slightly. Just then the door opened and a lady came in. She stood next to Gandalf and said,

"You called for me? Is he going to be alright?"

"I can only hope so. He's just a little dazed at the moment and needs rest," Gandalf explained.

The lady sat on the bed next to Pippin and laid her hand on his cold shaking one. Pippin could see her now and tried to smile, but it came out awkwardly. She had long golden wavy hair that went to her waist and she wore a beautiful creamy white dress with a brown belt.

"Hi, I'm Eowyn," the lady said with a smile, "What's your name?"

Pippin tried smiling again and tried to respond, but it came out as nothing. He looked puzzled.

"This is Peregrin Took. Once he comes back to his senses he will be nothing but talk," Gandalf grumbled, "So enjoy him now while he is silent,"

"Oh I'm sure he will be fine," Eowyn said.

"If you need me or if he is any trouble, come and get me," Gandalf said and walked to the door.

"Alright," Eowyn said.

Then Gandalf left and all was quiet again.

"Gandalf wants you to rest now, okay?" Pippin gave her a blank stare so she continued, "Here, I'll help you into a more comfortable position,"

Eowyn moved Pippin on his side and pulled the blankets over him. Surprisingly fast, he smiled and closed his eyes. Eowyn took a piece of cloth from a nearby dresser and wiped the blood off of Pippin's face. Then she lit a candle and put it next to the bed on a desk. She turned off the lights and all was lit only by a single candle flickering.

She sat down in the chair next to the bed and watched the sleeping Hobbit. She had never seen an actual Hobbit before and didn't realize they were so tiny. His hand was in an awkward twisted position so she took it and laid it flat on the bed cushion. His hands were only half the size of her own she discovered. Before Eowyn could take her hand away, out of nowhere Pippin grabbed it and brought it close to his body. She had almost screamed at the suddenness of it.

She was pulled out of her chair and decided to sit on the ground next to the bed instead. She tried moving her hand out of his grasp, but he had it tight and wasn't letting it go any time soon. She decided it was okay and laid her head down on the bed. She thought she could take a short nap before Pippin woke up, so she closed her eyes and dosed off into sleep.

-----

Pippin woke up to feeling a hundred times better and was able to move on his own and think normally again. As he opened his eyes, he saw a lady next to him. At first he flinched at not recognizing her, but then he remembered her name was Eowyn and she was just there to look after him. She had her face into the bed and she was sleeping peacefully.

It was then that Pippin realized he was holding something. He looked down and saw that he was holding her hand. He had a face of disgust and pushed her hand away from his own. Wiping the sweat off of his hand with the blanket, he thought about how glad he was that he could move again. He sat up without a hesitation.

Pippin looked around the room and realized it was the same room as earlier. Remembering he had almost died last time he had gotten out of bed he knew he should stay put. Eowyn started waking up and Pippin watched her every move. He still didn't know a lot about her and if he could trust her or the place he was in.

"Oh hello," she said looking up at Pippin, "Are you feeling better?"

Pippin kept it simple and nodded.

"Good," Eowyn responded happily and sat back down in the chair next to the bed, "What is your name?"

"Pippin,"

"Pippin? Didn't Gandalf call you something else?"

"Yah, he always does that. Peregrin Took is my real name, but most people call me Pippin... or Pip," he added in thinking about Merry.

"Oh I see. Are you hungry?"

Eowyn saw his eyes light up like a firework at that.

"Very!" Pippin exclaimed.

"If you stay here, do you want me to go get you something?"

Pippin smiled and said,

"Yes, but do you promise to come back soon? I get bored easily,"

"Of course, now stay here in bed and this time don't get up. Okay?"

Pippin nodded. Eowyn blew out the still flickering candle and lit the room with a low light from the chandelier, then left. Pippin sat in bed smiling to himself and tried to be patient.

A/N: My Pip is okay! :-D
