Making Friends~The Deaf Wolf

I didn't stay in the infirmary for long, I was allowed to go back to my floor late the next day.

I'd been sitting on my couch playing Skyrim when I heard the elevator open.

Quiet steps made their way into the room, "What's that?" Steve asked as he sat on the couch.

Bucky sat on the other side. "It's a TV Steve, never seen one of those?" his tone was teasing.

Steve reached over me to give him a firm whack on the shoulder, "Jerk," he muttered as he brought his arm back to his side.

Bucky rolled his eyes with his own muttered, "Punk,".

I used my bow to shoot a deer in the neck, killing it instantly.

"What game is this?" Bucky asked as he made himself comfortable via sprawling out.

"Skyrim," I told him as I harvested the pelt and antlers from the deer.

"What's it about?" Steve asked, doing the same as Bucky had.

It seemed that I was the only one in the room that could sit normally on the couch.

"Basically you're an illegal immigrant that was almost illegally put to death but a dragon saves you but then you have to kill him," I summed up for them, never taking my eyes off of the screen.

"Oh..." was all Steve had to say as he watched me hunt deer. "So, Bucky and I have been thinking..." Steve started.

I paused the game and looked at him, "Well that's never good,".

Bucky rolled his eyes, "Let him finish," he scolded lightly.

"Bucky and I have been thinking, you're almost sixteen and we think you should start going to highschool. Tony can probably teach you what you need to catch up and you can start your sophomore year,".

I shrugged, I didn't really care. School might be fun, I didn't really remember going.

"So would you want to go? Because Tony would need to start soon, the school year only just ended and you have a lot to catch up on,"Bucky asked me.

"I don't care, if you want to send me go ahead, I'm indifferent,".

Bucky groaned, "You teenager, it's a yes or no question,".

I rolled my eyes. "Sure, fine, I'll go," I told the two as I unpaused my game.

The two seemed pleased with my willingness.

Two months later and I was standing in front of Midtown High with a backpack over my shoulder.

I was a little nervous and my wolf sensed that, I could feel her on edge.

I walked into the building and glanced at the schedule I'd gotten a few days previous.

My first hour appeared to be an English class, second was World History, third was Algebra II, fourth was Chemistry, fifth was PE, sixth was Art I, and my last hour was Spanish.

I looked over the schedule a few times before I went to where all of the other students were waiting for school to start.

They appeared to have segregated themselves. I could see students wearing Avengers themed shirts in one corner and some reading books in another. The more atheletic people were all in the center of the courtyard and some were reading books in various places.

I wondered faintly which section I would end up in.

I settled on walking back into the school to figure out how I would get to my classes in the quickest way.

School started ten minutes later, which had given me time to figure everything out.

I was standing around my English class as the teacher, Ms. Shawl, gave everyone assigned seats.

I was put into the front row. I figured that was because I didn't really have any records and she didn't know how smart I was.

The people I'd seen reading in the courtyard were in the back. I was fine with that, I just had something to prove.

I had lunch after fifth hour.

The entire day so far had been just getting to know the teacher and what would be required for the class.

I only needed a few notebooks and a folder so far.

I took out my wallet to get the money Tony'd given me this morning for the vending machines.

"So where are you from?" I heard someone ask, that someone sounded very close to me.

I turned away from the vending machine to see some guy standing two feet away from me.

"Manhattan," I told him shortly before turning back around to put my money into the machine.

"It's rude not to face someone when they're trying to have a conversation with you," the boy's voice turned agitated.

I didn't really care, "And it's rude to get in someone's personal space," my tone was flat as I grabbed my food from the vending machine before I walked off.

The rest of that day went without a hitch.

The next few days however, did not.

The guy, whose name I learned was Jordan, had friends and he was a complete ass. None of them ever left me alone and there was always at least one of them in all of my classes.

I was in PE at the moment, and we were playing dodgeball.

I was everyone's target it seemed, even my own team's. None of them had managed to hit me though. My wolf and the Avengers taught me too well for that.

As I bent over to pick up another ball, I heard a thud by my head, causing my attention to snap to the noise.

It was the back of someone's hand, said person was holding a bright red dodgeball.

"Thanks," I told whoever it was as I stood back up.

"No problem," he gave me a small smile before he threw the ball at the other team, nailing someone in the back.

"Name's Peter by the way,"  he told me as I threw the ball.

"Ashlyn," I told him as I focused my attention back on him.

"My friend Ned saw you and wanted to say hi, but he didn't want to get hit by a ball," Peter told me with a shy smile, motioning towards someone behind him.

I looked to where he was pointing, a chubbyish tan guy was semi-hiding in plain sight in the corner.

He gave a small wave, looking very embarrassed.

I turned around and grabbed a ball that was going for the back of my head before chucking it back at who I knew threw it.

The ball hit it's target, who grouchily walked towards the bleachers.

"Nice reflexes," Peter said, watching the guy stomp off.

"I've learned that I need them around here," I informed him.

I started walking over to Ned, who looked like he was internally panicking.

I could hear Peter jogging after me.

"You wanted to speak with me?" I asked as I turned to face the opposing team, standing next to Ned as Peter stood next to me.

"Hi," was all he managed to say, his eyes wide.

"Hello," I told him back, he was in a couple of my classes.

As Ned opened his mouth to say something, the whistle was blown, "Go get changed!" the coach yelled as he went into his office.

"I'll talk to you later?" I told him before I headed to the girl's locker room.

I heard a small, "Okay," before I was out of hearing distance.

I looked back at Peter and Ned before I went into the locker room to see the two talking excitedly.

Ned had a big grin on his face as he talked to Peter.

I rolled my eyes with a small smile, those two were something.
