20. Bully Tadashi
Yamaguchi held Tsukishima's face in his hands, smiling. Tsukishima had been crying again. He was just sitting there, sniffling and hiccuping as he cried. Yamaguchi had been working his way through a whole conversation, giggling and teasing when it had happened.
Tsukishima had gotten overly proud and happy while just listening and suddenly started to cry. He had to blubber out a response, going along with his agreement to say why he was crying when it happened. It had been so nice the last few times, Tsukishima already feeling better.
Yamaguchi gave him one long hug and a kiss and would let him cry it out. Then he would get the explanation and Tsukishima would get more hugs and kisses. It worked so well and Tsukishima confided in him his insecurity of letting him down and wanting to change to be better.
Right now he was almost done crying, sniffling.
"You need to blow your nose?"
"You can talk so much I'm so proud of you!" Tsukishima flopped into him. Yamaguchi pat his back.
"Love… My shirt is not a… Tissue."
Tsukishima kissed his cheek.
"Haha…" He grabbed a tissue. "I won't wipe it."
Tsukishima blew his nose. He sanitized his hands and coughed. For a moment he stared at Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi smiled.
"I love you."
"I love you too."
Yamaguchi kissed him before wiggling down into his wheelchair. He led Tsukishima to the kitchen where they both helped each other make coffee, Tsukishima still being a bit out of it.
Eventually they were getting dressed, Yamaguchi needing a lot of help with his socks. Despite his speech improving greatly, his back and hips had progressively gotten worse in the pain aspect. This meant even bending over to change his socks hurt like someone pulling his spine out of his back.
Tsukishima now put pillows under his hips to help change his pants and underwear. This included the hip brace he needed and scar cream for where his surgeries had happened. He was relaxed when this happened, practicing counting and pronunciation to distract himself.
"Tadashi, would you like some muffins? They've got the ones with sugar baked on top."
"Yeah!"
"Woah… Mamma, why is he in a wheelchair? I thought only movies had that."
Yamaguchi tensed. Tsukishima paid for the muffins and turned around. The little girl was staring at Yamaguchi, who was visibly uncomfortable. He rolled himself backward and then to the side where he tried to get to his chair forward to a table. Someone walked up in front of him, blocking him from moving.
Tsukishima sighed. "Damn is it bully Tadashi day…"
"Apparently."
"Excuse us." Tsukishima helped him around the person. "You sure you want me to leave you here while I work?"
"Mhmm."
"If you say so. You need to text me if something happens."
Yamaguchi looked around, confused. Today must be a sucky day. None of the tables with wheelchair accessibility were open. It's not like he actually fit there, seeing as the tables weren't high enough for some reason.
"Hey, baby we might need to go outside…"
Yamaguchi's mood dropped a bit. He wasn't able to do something again. "I can stand. I gotta."
Tsukishima looked around. The safest option had no room for the chair but he would make it work. "We can do that."
Yamaguchi shifted. He pointed to a corner. "Chair can go there. Don't carry me."
"Are you sure?"
Yamaguchi nodded. "I gotta get a cane soon."
"Hopefully." Tsukishima rolled him to the corner and grabbed his bag. "Alright angel."
Yamaguchi grabbed his armrests. He took a deep breath. "Jesus fuck."
"Too much?"
"I got it." He pushed up onto his feet. Some people stopped talking and stared. Yamaguchi tried to ignore it, continuing to stand up and trying to move better. His legs felt like they were a little more than asleep as he faltered.
When he started to walk, he heard a shutter of a phone camera go off. He looked up, startled. "Please don't take pic… Pictures!"
Tsukishima glared at the girl who was taking pictures. She rolled her eyes.
Tsukishima helped Yamaguchi walk to the table, noticing the way he was trying not to cry at the feeling.
"You pushed yourself too much?"
"Def… Define…" Yamaguchi took a deep breath. He leaned back slowly, his back popping as he eased down. It hurt more to lay here. He reached up, grabbing a muffin. Tsukishima yawned. He sat by the table. "You good?"
Yamaguchi grabbed his thigh and set his calf on Tsukishima's shoulder. "This is a… Really good muffin."
Tsukishima rubbed his shin, humming. He pulled out a book, obviously wanting to do so.
Yamaguchi ate for a bit, actually more relaxed than he thought would happen. He giggled, mind-drifting places not appropriate for the public.
"What was that for?"
"Last week."
"Mm?" Tsukishima looked up from his book. "What about it?"
"Tuesday night."
Tsukishima thought for a moment before realizing what he meant. He shifted, feeling his collar. "I… I remember that. What about it?"
"You're cute."
Tsukishima smiled, flustered. He hid his smile in his turtleneck, continuing to read. Yamaguchi sat up slowly before leaning forward, taking Tsukishima's chin in his hand, and tilted his head up. "Hm?"
Yamaguchi kissed him, noticing Tsukishima getting shy. He laughed. "Love you."
Tsukishima tapped his fingers against his knees, trying not to grin.
"Tsukiii." Yamaguchi kissed his forehead, lowering his voice. "I love you Kei."
Tsukishima kissed the tip of his nose. "I love you too."
"Three more."
"Three more," Tsukishima repeated. He yawned. "I don't want to go to work."
Yamaguchi rubbed his cheek. "You gotta."
Tsukishima furrowed his brows. "Being an adult sucks. Can we just get married and go to like… Wales? You love castles."
"Heh."
Tsukishima stood up and kissed his lover's forehead. "I'll be across the street. Just call if you need anything."
"Okay. Love you."
Tsukishima hummed. "Love you." He walked off, out, and into the library across the street.
Yamaguchi pulled out his phone, getting bored fast. He wanted to get back in his chair and leave. There was a pretty even trail nearby he could go on. He looked around, searching for a nice female just in case the guys would yell.
Someone made eye contact with him and he smiled. The male stood and Yamaguchi nearly panicked before realizing that he meant no harm.
"Do you need any help?"
"I need my wheelchair… Please."
His chair was rolled closer and he wiggled into it, having a lot of difficulties doing so. At some point, he had to stand, and someone nearby stood. They helped him before sitting back down with their friends and rolling their eyes.
He was sure he had just been called a faker but tried to ignore it. Instead, he focused on moving his legs with his hands to fix his posture. He rolled down the small ramp to the door, struggling yet again. Today really was bully Tadashi day.
He had attempted to open the door but people slipped past and around him, making it harder to move. He backed up a few times to see if that would help but no matter what, he was ignored. He texted Tsukishima, who sent someone to help him out.
It looked like someone he'd seen but he ignored that, going into the library. The man who had helped him over to the library sat down near the science section, more specifically the sci-fi area. Within two minutes the other boy was joined by Kuroo, who kissed him.
Yamaguchi glanced at Tsukishima. "Tsuki?"
"Hm?"
"Who's with Kuroo?"
"His partner, Daishou." Tsukishima looked up. "Was he rude to you?"
"No… Do I know him?"
"You've known him for a while? Baby are you okay?"
Yamaguchi stared. "Um… I don't remember him. I-I don't…"
Tsukishima got up, alarmed.
"I-I don't remember again," Yamaguchi said, panicked.
"Tadashi, Tadashi take a deep breath."
"Tsuki…"
Tsukishima hugged him. "I know."
"I'm still forgetting."
"It'll come back."
Yamaguchi clung to him, trying to stop himself from crying. Every time he forgot something it reminded him of the accident and it hurt so bad.
"You need to go lay down?"
"No… Can I see him? Maybe I can remember. Maybe-" Yamaguchi stopped, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.
Tsukishima ran his fingers through Yamaguchi's hair. "Angel, if you can't remember no one will judge you. I never judged you when you forgot things or couldn't recognize me. No one ever has."
Yamaguchi sniffled. "I forgot a whole… Whole person. That's scary."
"Do you want to talk to him?"
"Yes."
Tsukishima rolled him over to Kuroo. "Tadashi wants to stay over here for a bit. Is that okay with you?"
Kuroo shrugged. "I don't mind. He's cool with me."
Daishou yawned. "He's fine."
Kuroo extended his arm. "You wanna come up here for a bit? You don't look like you are feeling well."
Yamaguchi stared at Daishou. "Uh… Who are you?"
Daishou stared back. "Is this the brain thing?"
Yamaguchi nearly started to cry. "Yes."
How had he been friends with someone so rude?
Kuroo flicked Daishou. "Babe, be nice."
"Sorry, sorry. You know me. Before the accident we worked together for a few months on a project."
"Ooh…" Yamaguchi put his head back, taking a deep breath. He felt tired.
Kuroo stood up. He lifted Yamaguchi slowly and set him against his chest. "He has trouble remembering people sometimes. Are you tired Yama?"
Yamaguchi smiled tiredly. He leaned into Kuroo. This was comfortable. Daishou leaned over and kissed Kuroo's cheek. He rubbed Yamaguchi's head. "If you want, I can give you my jacket, and you can go to sleep."
Tsukishima looked up from his computer and stared. He… Didn't like that?
Usually, Yamaguchi cuddled his friends. Usually, that would be fine.
Kuroo looked up. "Babe, babe, he doesn't like this. Yamaguchi, I'm gonna set you on the couch, okay?"
"Mm? Why?"
"Look at Tsukishima."
Yamaguchi looked over and made eye contact with him. Tsukishima looked really upset. Yamaguchi held out his hand. Tsukishima looked to his computer, messing with his hands.
"I'm so sorry."
Yamaguchi hurried to get into his chair, worried. He hated Tsukishima getting upset. He wheeled himself over to the desk, struggling with the lock of the little door. Tsukishima unlocked it, avoiding his eyes.
"T-Tsuki- Tsuki I'm sorry."
"It's okay."
"Tsuki…"
Kuroo hurried over. "I didn't mean to do that. At all. It's a habit. I'm so sorry."
Tsukishima turned his chair around.
Yamaguchi rolled over to him and hugged him. He kissed him and backed up. Tsukishima started to cry. Kuroo gasped. "Shit I'm sorry-"
"It's okay. My fault."
"What? How is it your fault?"
Yamaguchi set his hands on Tsukishima's lap. "Lemme up."
Tsukishima lifted him into his lap. He calmed down after a while, returning to computer work. Yamaguchi stayed with him, understanding the issue. It hadn't been a good idea for him to do that when Tsukishima was already so insecure that he wasn't doing good. But then again no one should have lifted him out of his chair without permission...
