Y/n Schnapp, to any other person, seems like a completely normal girl other than the fact she's been home schooled her whole life ‒ although, that is about to change.

But, unfortunately she isn't the most normal that normal gets.

Y/n Schnapp was born with long-term, type 4, osteogenesis imperfecta ( which often stands for OI ), or, as some people like to call it, Brittle Bone Disease. Having type 4 OI's symptoms can range from mild to severe depending on the person, for Y/n, it depends. Occasionally she'll feel sick, need to vomit, etc, or, she'll feel completely fine. Type 4 OI's use crutches ( or a just one crutch ) to keep them stable if needed, but they can walk on their own, just the risk of getting hurt can increase slightly.

Fortunately, Y/n isn't one of the few people that had bones sticking out of the side nor odd
( but quite normal in Brittle Bone Disease patients' body ) deformed areas.

Somehow, her brother, Noah, had miraculously avoided the Disease and lived a carefree life.

On the other hand, physical and occupational therapy to increase Y/n's mobility and muscle strength is a must and is booked 2 days a week. She takes bisphosphonate medication to strengthen her bones and has different medicine to reduce the ‒ sometimes ‒ pain. Low-impact exercise to help build bone is nearly a daily task and she's had surgery to place rods in very weak places.

In conclusion, to her, it sucks. But, it's not something she spends her time whining about as it can be, in some cases, very lethal.

"I can't believe you're coming tomorrow!" Exclaims Sophia as Millie, her and Y/n all talk on Skype. Y/n lets out a small, but nervous giggle as she fiddles with the loose strands of hair that fell in front of her face. There was only two words to wrap up what she's feeling right now : fucking afraid.

"I know . . . I haven't been to a public school, like, ever. Honestly, I'm terrified." Y/n says, getting quieter towards the end of her sentence while continuing to fiddle with her soft hair.

Millie laughs, "Don't worry! We'll be with you the whole time, well, except for the few classes we don't have together, which sucks by the way." She says, her voice glitching slightly through the call and echoing out through Y/n's laptop.

Y/n had met Sophia and Millie through Noah, as they were originally friends and had visited their house a few times. Sophia and Millie supported and loved Y/n to bits, vice versa and were thrilled when they heard Y/n was finally going to be enrolled into their school.

"We're so happy that your bones are now strong enough to at least be at a public school! Proud of you babe!" Sophia smiles cheerfully, her ginger hair almost pixels through the blue screen.

"Thanks guys," Y/n says, her eyes trailing off to the time that was placed on the bottom right of her screen, it read 9:47 pm, "I'd better get to bed, it's getting late. Thanks for the pep talk ladies!" She laughs.

Two warming 'goodbyes' could be heard before Y/n shut her computer screen and placing it onto her side desk. Shrinking back into the comfy bed, she let her eyes get more droopy by the second, and soon enough, she was off into a peaceful slumber.

"It's not rocket science, Noah!" Y/n yells loudly, looking down at the burnt eggs and bacon that were placed onto her plate, "Should've just let mum cook." She tuts, poking at the nearly fully black eggs.

"Shut up and eat it! I put love and effort into that!" Noah retorts, waving around the tongs carelessly, "Plus, I told mum not to cook today. I wanted to. It's your big day!" He says, taking off the apron he wore that had the words, 'Mr. Good Lookin' Is Cookin'' plastered on the front.

"Thank you Noah, really, but if this is what your love looks like, I don't want in." She laughs, but nonetheless eats the burnt 'goods'.

"Whatever." Noah joins in laughing.

The two finally arrived and Y/n looked down at her feet. Noah looked over worriedly at her, "Are you sure you're going to be okay? Where's Sophia and Millie? Need help to get to your classes? You can go home if you want, you kno-" He rambles but was cut off,

"I'm fine Noah! And Sophia and Millie are over there." Y/n laughs, her head now turned towards him as she pointed to the two girls that were waiting at the front gate, not noticing until now that Y/n had arrived. Their eyes instantly widened as they run to her hastily.

"Y/n!" They both scream, remembering that they can't really hug her tightly as that would probably end in a broken bone or two, so, instead they kept it at the screaming and crying.

"Looks like you've got it covered." Noah winks, earning a nod and smile from Y/n. Noah walks away and runs over to his friends. Noah had told Y/n that his group of friends were one of the most popular alongside another boy's, but Y/n thought it was dumb to care so much about popularity. But she supposed that was just how life works these days.

"We'll show you 'round and everything! Ah, we're so exci ‒ " Millie squeals, only to be cut of by the abnormally loud bell, indicating that classes were starting, "Shit! That was the bell, do you have your schedule?" She asks.

"Oh darn! I need to get it. You guys get to class without me, I'll find a way." Y/n says, looking around while shifting her bags' straps to sit more comfortably on her shoulders.

"No way! This is your first day! We can't just leave you." Sophia complains, a worried glint in her eyes.

Y/n laughs and shakes her head slightly, "I insist. Don't be late because of me. Just go, it can't be too hard to find the office." She shrugs.

"God, why is it so hard to find the office?" Y/n whines out loud, not caring that she was speaking to herself or that she sounded like a baby, considering everyone else was already in class. Still strolling aimlessly, Y/n encounters voices echoing through the hall. I thought classes had started?  She thought to herself, not realising the frown that had replaced her doomed face.

"She was so dumb, did you see her face when I broke up with her? Hah, so pathetic." A masculine voice snorts. The voices gets louder and Y/n's anxiety starts kicking in.

Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, I'm going to be killed. What if they are murderers? No. Definitely not. Right?

Y/n looked around momentarily, finding nothing, not even a room to escape to. The voices became louder as the people shuffled closer.

"Yeah, so idiotic. Can't believe she thought you were actually in love wit ‒ " Another masculine voice retorts, only to stop them self, "Who's that?" He asks. Y/n looks at them, seeing a group of boys now stopping in front of her.

"W-well, I-I'm you know, a person, and, yeah." Y/n says nervously, her eyes shifting anywhere but at the daunting group of boys.

"I've never seen you 'round here, you new?" A black, curly haired boy asks, smirking, with a slight tilt of his head. Y/n gulps deeply. She hasn't really talked to many boys other than Noah, her dad and Noah's friends that often came over. They were her friends too and they all enjoyed each other's company.

"Y-yeah, yeah I am." She says, shuffling her feet anxiously, wishing that Noah or at least someone would save her from the mischievous gaze the boy was giving her.

"Why don't I show you to the office? You seem a bit lost." He grins before looking at his friends and shooing them away. They listened straight away, like they were afraid to disobey him. He was a little intimidating, Y/n wasn't going to lie.

"Aha, no no that's fine. ." She laughs nervously, tightening her grip on the straps of her backpack slightly.

"No, no, I insist, come." He says, the same smirk still apparent. Y/n just nods slowly, afraid he'd get mad if she denied any longer. He wraps an arm around her harshly, causing her to groan at the sudden pain. He pulls his arm away quickly and for a second his eyes filled with worry, but that soon turned into confusion, "What? What's wrong?" He says in an annoyed tone.

"I - uh, just," Y/n thought about it for a moment. Should she tell him? He seems rude. . . would he just tease her about it? "Nothing. It's nothing, just got a fright is all." She sighs, gripping her arm that was now slightly in pain.

"Right. . ." He narrows his eyes, "Follow me then." He shrugs.

They soon arrived at the office that was also the principals office as well and as soon as they got inside the medium sized room the lady at the desk narrowed her eyes at the curly haired boy.

"Finn Wolfhard," She drags out his name slightly, "got in trouble again did we? What was it this time? Sent your history teacher to the hospital again? Spray painted the cafeteria again? Or maybe your millionth fight on school grounds?" The woman tuts, her dark blue eyes seeming to be full of annoyance. It seemed that it wasn't 'Finn's' first time in the principals office.

"No, actually, Principal Keller, I've brought the new student to you that got lost." He says, acting innocent.

Her head snaps towards Y/n whom stood nervously, "Ah! Y/n Schnapp! Welcome! I'm sorry I didn't send anyone to help you to the office." She says, "I'm Principal Keller, here's your schedule." Keller says, passing her a piece of paper, "Hm, your locker combination and number should be on there too." She nods.

"Thank you so much." Y/n says, taking the piece of paper out of her hands gently and looking at it.

"Oh! Well, I guess considering Finn is here and should be in class, why doesn't he show you around? After interval, you can head to your classes." Mrs. Keller suggests.

"Uh, no, it's fine, he really doesn't have to ‒" Y/n starts but was instantly cut off by Finn himself,

"Not a problem Keller, I wouldn't mind showing her around." He grins, wrapping his arm around her again, making Mrs. Keller flinch.

"Finn, I should warn you to be gentle with Ms. Schnapp." Keller implies, "Literally. Be. Gentle." She adds.

"Always." He says in a roguish tone, glancing at the girl beside him.
