Ten years had woven a tapestry of camaraderie and chaos around Y/N and Baiheng, the duo famously known as 'peaceful troublemakers.' To the outside world, it was an oxymoron, but those familiar with their antics understood the paradox perfectly.
Y/N's focused yet often tunnel-visioned strategies, coupled with Baiheng's curious and playful nature, had become the stuff of legend, often causing the Council members sleepless nights. The revelation that Baiheng was behind the damaged Starskiffs – under Y/N's orders no less – had initially caused an uproar. But their recent encounter with the Aeon Lan had shifted the Council's perspective, reluctantly granting Baiheng immunity under Y/N's command.
Jingliu, the ever-serene swordswoman with hair as pale as moonlight, had gradually warmed up to Baiheng. Y/N's intuition had been right; she needed a female confidant. Their discussions, often deep and philosophical, were a welcome change for Jingliu. Yet, the realm of 'girl talk' was unfamiliar territory, something she never navigated with Y/N for obvious reasons.
Despite the growing bond between the women, Jingliu couldn't shake off a protective streak towards Y/N, particularly when Baiheng was involved. Her fear wasn't unfounded; Y/N's impromptu trip to another planet with Baiheng had left a lasting impression. His return to a heartbroken Jingliu, whispering his name in a mix of sadness and longing, had pierced his heart with guilt. He had vowed then never to leave Xianzhou without her. His peace offering – exotic drinks from distant worlds – had been a hit, inadvertently turning Jingliu into an aficionado of rare spirits.
Sharing this story with Baiheng had elicited a pang of guilt in her, prompting her to suggest solo travels henceforth. Y/N had agreed, promising to arrange a personal Starskiff for her adventures.
Jing Yuan, the white-haired disciple of Y/N and Jingliu, had initially been taken aback by Baiheng's radiant energy. The foxian's ability to draw relaxed, genuine smiles from his usually stoic masters was nothing short of miraculous. However, his first personal encounter with Baiheng left him wary; her cheeky grin spelled nothing but trouble in his eyes.
The decade with Baiheng in their lives was a whirlwind of joy, laughter, and the occasional heartache. Their adventures, though sometimes straining the bonds of their small group, had ultimately brought a richness to their lives that none of them would trade for the world.
As the sun set on another day in Xianzhou, the trio – Y/N, Jingliu, and Baiheng – found themselves reminiscing over a shared meal, laughter echoing in the warm evening air. It was moments like these that reminded them of the strength of their unlikely alliances.
---
The sun hung lazily in the sky, its rays bathing Y/N and Baiheng in a warm, comforting light. Y/N lounged in his chair, an empty bowl that had once contained dumplings resting on a small table beside him. Baiheng, meanwhile, meticulously combed her silver-purple hair, a task she performed with an air of serene focus.
"Hey, Baiheng," Y/N called out, his voice tinged with a hint of boredom.
Baiheng glanced over, her comb pausing mid-stroke. "Yeh?" she responded, curiosity in her tone.
"What do you think of life?" Y/N asked, staring up at the sky, seemingly lost in thought.
Baiheng set her comb down, a playful smirk forming on her lips. "Oh no... you're getting more sentimental by the day," she teased.
"It's not that," Y/N protested, his gaze shifting from the sky to her. "I'm just... bored. The excitement of those dumplings was short-lived," he added, glancing at his empty bowl.
Baiheng chuckled at the sight, then suggested, "Why not train? I'm sure Jingliu would enjoy a good sparring session."
Y/N shook his head, a hint of weariness in his voice. "Did that, done that. The ground's still settling from our last match."
Baiheng sighed, recalling the minor tremors that had rippled through Xianzhou Luofu earlier. "Ah, so that's why there was a quake-like rumble. The Cloud Knights were almost dispatched, thinking it was something serious."
There was a pause as Baiheng pondered, her gaze wandering over the peaceful scene around them. Children played in the distance, their laughter mingling with the soft murmur of people engaged in lively conversations. A group of actors delivered dramatic lines on a nearby stage, drawing an attentive crowd.
Just as the tranquility seemed to solidify, Y/N broke the silence with a sudden declaration. "Let's go to Zhuming."
Baiheng looked at him, surprise etching her features. "Zhuming? Now?"
Y/N nodded, a spark of excitement lighting up his eyes. "Yeah, why not? We could use a change of scenery, and who knows, we might stumble upon an adventure or two."
Baiheng's initial surprise gave way to intrigue. "An adventure, you say? That does sound tempting," she mused, a sense of anticipation building within her.
Y/N stood up, stretching his arms above his head. "Exactly. It's been too quiet around here. A little excitement is just what we need."
Baiheng rose to her feet, her earlier calm demeanor replaced by an adventurous spirit. "Alright then, Commander, lead the way to Zhuming. Let's see what the day has in store for us."
As they prepared to depart, the mundane tranquility of their surroundings contrasted sharply with the sense of adventure that now coursed through their veins. With a shared sense of excitement and curiosity, Y/N and Baiheng set off towards Zhuming, ready to embrace whatever challenges or surprises awaited them.
---
Y/N and Baiheng, having effortlessly traveled to Xianzhou Zhuming in the sleek Starskiff gifted by Y/N, now found themselves amidst the city's opulent architecture and vibrant streets. Despite the years, Zhuming retained its luxurious charm, each corner exuding a sense of grandeur and beauty.
Baiheng emerged from the Starskiff, stretching her limbs expansively, reveling in the freedom of movement. "Ah, it feels good to be back here," she exclaimed, reaching her arms towards the sky.
Her expression shifted to one of mild concern as a thought struck her. "Hey, why didn't you bring Jingliu along? She might not be too happy about this little escapade of ours," Baiheng inquired, her tone laced with apprehension.
Y/N, leaning against the Starskiff, shrugged nonchalantly. "She's tied up with a diplomatic mission today. Just routine stuff."
Baiheng's eyebrows rose in curiosity. "Oh! I heard Hua is accompanying her. Remember when Hua publicly proposed to you in the Council chamber. Jingliu was ready to start a war right then and there," she recalled, a hint of amusement in her voice.
Y/N chuckled at the memory. "That was quite a day. I've had my fair share of proposals, but Hua's was something else. I've never seen Jingliu so fiercely protective. Took me a while to calm her down after that."
"Hua's always been a bit impulsive," Baiheng remarked, shaking her head. "Young and headstrong."
"You're right about that," Y/N agreed, his gaze drifting off momentarily.
Suddenly, a familiar voice interrupted their conversation. "Y/N, Baiheng!"
They both turned to see Jinhua, Hua's older sister, approaching them with a graceful stride. Her presence exuded an air of authority, complemented by her striking bluish-purple hair that fluttered in the breeze.
"Jinhua!" Y/N greeted her warmly, a genuine smile spreading across his face.
Jinhua chuckled, her eyes twinkling with mirth. "That's Marshal Jinhua to you. But I suppose formalities aren't your style, are they, Y/N?"
Y/N grinned unabashedly, clearly unbothered by the omission of her title. "You know me too well, Jinhua."
Jinhua's gaze then shifted to Baiheng, her smile unwavering. "And greetings to you, Baiheng."
Baiheng returned the greeting with equal enthusiasm. "Hey there, Jinhua! What brings you to Zhuming?"
Jinhua's expression turned slightly more serious. "Actually, I was about to ask you the same thing. You two together usually means trouble. Are you here to wreak havoc and give me a headache?"
Y/N and Baiheng exchanged a quick, knowing glance, a mischievous glint in their eyes. "We're just bored, that's all," Y/N admitted.
"Bored," Jinhua echoed, her brows arching slightly. "Well, if you're looking for something to do, why not join me? I'm overseeing the transfer of arms and reinforcements from the Artisanship Commission. We've been facing increased aggression from our enemies lately."
Baiheng's interest was visibly piqued, while Y/N simply shrugged in agreement. "Sounds like a plan. We're in, right, Baiheng?"
Baiheng nodded eagerly. "Absolutely! Anything to break the monotony."
Jinhua's lips curved into a satisfied smile. "Great. Follow me, then. And who knows, you might just find the excitement you're looking for."
As they set off, Jinhua leading the way, Y/N and Baiheng fell into step beside her. The streets of Zhuming bustled around them, the city alive with its usual blend of elegance and energy. Little did they know, this impromptu decision would soon lead them into an adventure far beyond their expectations.
---
Strolling through the bustling streets of Xianzhou Zhuming, Y/N found himself sandwiched between Baiheng and Jinhua, an arrangement that didn't go unnoticed by the onlookers. Some speculated about the nature of their relationship, reminiscent of the time Y/N had to publicly squash rumors about him and Baiheng.
"You know, it's been years, and people still bring up that rumor about us," Baiheng said, her tone a mix of amusement and exasperation.
Y/N nodded, his face a picture of resignation. "I remember having to address that. It sparked an unfortunate series of alliance proposals. Jingliu was, let's say, less than thrilled."
Jinhua, walking gracefully on his right, added, "Oh, the council chambers were abuzz for weeks. But you handled it with your usual aplomb, Y/N."
Y/N sighed, recalling the tension of that time. "It opened the door for all sorts of alliance proposals. Jingliu wasn't too pleased with that development."
Baiheng laughed, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "Jingliu can be fiercely protective, isn't she? I've seen her in action."
Y/N nodded. "Her loyalty is unwavering. It's one of the things I admire most about her."
Turning to Jinhua, he inquired, "So, about the transfers from the Artisanship Commission. What's the situation?"
Jinhua's expression grew serious. "The recent aggressions have put us on high alert. We're moving sensitive materials, and extra security is paramount."
Y/N raised an eyebrow. "Sounds like a delicate task. Anything specific we should know?"
Jinhua paused, then shared, "We're transporting a series of experimental weapons. They're powerful, but unstable. Any mishandling could have disastrous consequences."
Baiheng whistled softly. "Sounds like high stakes. Count me in for the excitement."
As they continued their walk, Y/N pondered Jinhua's words. The responsibility weighed heavily on him, but he was determined to ensure the mission's success.
Their conversation shifted to lighter topics, with Y/N and Baiheng sharing anecdotes from their recent adventures. Jinhua listened with interest, her worries temporarily set aside.
Though, the talk of responsibilities reminded Y/N of a past confrontation involving Hua, a fire-affinity martial artist who had once openly proposed to him. The incident had nearly caused a duel between Jingliu and Hua.
Baiheng laughed at the memory. "I remember Jingliu's face that day. I've never seen her so ready to draw her sword in the council chamber."
Y/N chuckled. "Yes, that was quite a day. Hua's boldness is something else. She even challenged me to a duel once, for my hand in marriage just last month. If she won, I had to accept her proposal. Naturally, I won, but her determination is admirable."
Jinhua sighed, a blend of fondness and exasperation in her voice. "My sister's antics... I do apologize for any inconvenience she's caused."
"Not at all," Y/N reassured. "She's quite the character. Though I have to admit, Jingliu's radar for Hua is uncanny. It's almost as if she has a sixth sense for it."
Baiheng interjected with a laugh, "Their catfights are legendary. I wouldn't be surprised if they're having one right now on their mission."
Y/N and Jinhua joined in the laughter, but a shadow of concern crossed Jinhua's face. "I do hope they maintain diplomatic decorum. We can't afford any incidents."
"Don't worry," Y/N said confidently. "Jingliu knows how to handle herself. She'll keep things in check."
Jinhua nodded, though her expression remained thoughtful. "Let's hope so. In any case, we have our own mission to focus on."
With that, the trio arrived at the Artisanship Commission's base, ready to undertake their crucial task. The weight of their responsibility hung in the air, but they were united in their determination to succeed.
---
Y/N and Baiheng stood before the Flamedisk Forge Palace, their eyes scanning the magnificent structure that had withstood countless events and adventures.
"Same old palace," Y/N mused aloud, a hint of nostalgia in his voice.
Baiheng playfully nudged him. "With your knack for destruction, Y/N, it's a wonder this place still stands," she teased, her fox ears twitching with amusement.
Jinhua chimed in, her tone light yet pointed. "Indeed, Y/N. For someone who treads so carefully around Jingliu, one would expect a bit more... finesse in other areas."
Y/N, slightly embarrassed, rubbed the back of his head. "I'm not always that destructive, am I?"
The deadpan looks from both women said it all, causing Y/N to chuckle awkwardly.
Just then, Y/N's attention was drawn to a young boy with flowing blue hair, dressed in formal attire. There was something about the boy that piqued his interest.
"I'll catch up with you later," Y/N said to Baiheng and Jinhua. "There's someone I'd like to meet."
Jinhua paused, her eyes following Y/N's gaze. "Alright, we'll continue to Huaiyan's office. Don't take too long."
Baiheng, however, seemed intrigued by Y/N's sudden interest. "Actually, I think I'll join Y/N. Go ahead, Jinhua. We'll be at the office in five minutes, promise!"
Jinhua let out a resigned sigh. "Five minutes. No more."
With a nod from Y/N and Baiheng, Jinhua continued on her way, leaving them to their detour.
Baiheng's curiosity was evident. "That boy caught your eye, huh? He does have a certain charm. I'd love to pinch those cheeks!"
Y/N raised an eyebrow, unsure of how to take her comment. "I hope you mean that in the most innocent way possible."
Baiheng's face flushed slightly. "Of course! What do you take me for?"
Y/N smirked. "I'd rather not say."
"Oh, stop it!" Baiheng said, her frustration showing.
The two approached the young boy, Y/N's instincts telling him there was more to this encounter than met the eye. As they neared, the boy looked up, his eyes meeting Y/N's with a curious and somewhat familiar gaze.
The boy before them, shifted nervously under the gaze of Y/N and Baiheng. His eyes, filled with a mixture of respect and admiration, flickered between the two.
"Umm... good morning!" he greeted, executing a respectful bow.
Y/N and Baiheng exchanged amused glances, charmed by the boy's innocence, yet both could sense an underlying current of despair in him.
"Good morning," Y/N returned the greeting warmly.
Baiheng chimed in with her characteristic cheer, "Morning to you, boyo!"
Ying Xing's cheeks reddened at the casual moniker, clearly unaccustomed to such friendly informality.
"May we know your name?" Y/N inquired, his tone gentle. "You seem relatively new here."
The boy took a deep breath, visibly steeling himself to overcome his shyness. "My name is Ying Xing, sir! It's a pleasure to meet you!" He then turned to Baiheng, adding, "And it's a pleasure to meet you too, madam!"
At the word 'madam', Baiheng looked as if she'd been physically struck, much to Y/N's amusement.
Y/N chuckled, nudging Baiheng playfully. "Hey, at least he didn't call you auntie."
Baiheng's gaze snapped to Y/N, her eyes narrowing dangerously. She then turned her attention back to Ying Xing, who quivered under her intense stare.
"You will call me 'sister' from now on," she declared firmly.
"B-but sir said to call you aunti-" Ying Xing began, only to be cut off.
"S I S T E R," Baiheng insisted, her tone leaving no room for debate.
Visibly trembling, Ying Xing quickly corrected himself, "Y-yes, sister!"
Baiheng's expression instantly transformed into one of playful mischief, as though their previous exchange never occurred. "Good! See, Y/N, he called me sis!"
Shaking his head, Y/N lightly tapped Baiheng on the head in a brotherly fashion. "Haaah, so, back to my question, Ying Xing," he refocused the conversation.
"Oh yes!" Ying Xing perked up, his confidence returning. "I am Uncle Huaiyan's apprentice!"
Y/N raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Uncle Huaiyan's apprentice, you say?"
"A-ah, yes," Ying Xing replied, a bit shyly.
Y/N pondered for a moment before turning to Baiheng. "How about you join Ying Xing on his mission? I bet you'd enjoy teasing him more than dealing with Jinhua's diplomacy."
Baiheng's eyes lit up with excitement. "Ooo, I know there's a reason why I like you!"
Y/N laughed heartily. "Well, I'll head off then." Before departing, he ruffled Ying Xing's hair, causing the boy to flail about playfully. "See you next time, Ying Xing. And Baiheng, please, don't eat him up."
"OI!!! I'M NOT LIKE THAT!" Baiheng protested loudly, her voice echoing through the corridor.
With a wave and a final chuckle, Y/N left the duo, confident that Baiheng would bring her unique brand of fun to Ying Xing's day.
As he walked away, Y/N couldn't help but smile, thinking about the unlikely friendships and bonds that had formed over the years.
---
Y/N's armored boots echoed through the grand halls as he made his way to Huaiyan's office. The rhythmic clanking sound seemed to blend seamlessly with the opulence surrounding him.
Upon reaching the ornate door, Y/N knocked and entered. Inside, Huaiyan and Jinhua were deep in discussion. The office, as grand as it was, seemed to shrink in the presence of these powerful individuals.
"Greetings, Huaiyan," Y/N announced his arrival with a respectful nod.
"Y/N," Huaiyan responded, his voice carrying a note of formality yet warmth.
Y/N took a seat in an unoccupied chair, the leather creaking under his weight. Jinhua approached him, her demeanor serious but friendly.
"I've discussed the matters with Huaiyan. We won't be needing your assistance for now, but it's good to keep you informed," Jinhua said.
Y/N nodded in understanding. "That's fine. As long as everything is going smoothly."
The conversation turned towards more critical matters. Huaiyan, his gaze fixed on Y/N, inquired, "Has Lord Lan sent any messages for us?"
Jinhua's stance immediately became more poised, a mark of respect at the mention of the revered Aeon.
"Nothing of late... He's been unusually silent," Y/N replied, his voice tinged with concern. His bond with Lan, though not typical, was one of mutual respect and friendship.
Consciously, Y/N refrained from mentioning the Flint Emperor in Jinhua's presence, knowing she was unaware of those details.
A heavy sigh escaped Y/N's lips as he thought about the public's reaction to his first public meeting with Lan. "Ever since that day, everything's been chaotic."
Jinhua offered a sympathetic pat on his shoulder. "It's natural for people to hold you in even higher regard now. A personal encounter with Lord Lan is unprecedented."
They recalled the overwhelming attention Y/N received following the news of his meeting with Lan. The stress and the potential energy buildup in Y/N had been palpable, prompting Jinhua and Huaiyan to alert Jingliu, his lifelong companion and anchor.
Y/N massaged his temples, visibly exhausted. Suddenly, he remembered something crucial. "A few months back, Lan mentioned something about Shuhu. He's planning something, collaborating with an unknown party."
Jinhua's expression grew stern. "Shuhu, the leader of the Denizens of Abundance... This is concerning."
Huaiyan concurred, "Indeed. I'll ensure our defenses are doubled. We can't take any risks."
Jinhua turned to Y/N. "Will you inform the Council?"
Y/N, his mind elsewhere, delegated the task to Jinhua. "Please do. I'm... worried about Jingliu. Something feels off."
Jinhua nodded in understanding, not questioning his decision. They were friends first, and that bond superseded any hierarchical dynamics.
Huaiyan, sensing the need to lighten the mood, chimed in cheerfully, "Well then, meeting adjourned. Who's up for some drinks?" He revealed an assortment of ancient sakes from various planets.
Y/N, typically averse to alcohol, found himself indulging alongside Jinhua. The room filled with laughter and chatter, a welcome change from the weight of their responsibilities. For a moment, they were not just generals and commanders but friends sharing in the simple joys of life.
---
After several hours of leisurely conversation and laughter, Y/N and Jinhua emerged from Huaiyan's office. The effects of the alcohol were evident in Y/N's dazed expression and Jinhua's slightly unsteady gait.
Outside, Baiheng was deeply engaged in conversation with Ying Xing. The scene was reminiscent of a caring older sister sharing wisdom with her younger brother. Jinhua called out to Baiheng, who snapped to attention, a bit too enthusiastically.
"YESH, MADAM!" Baiheng's salute was as comical as it was exaggerated, earning a chuckle from Jinhua.
Y/N, however, seemed lost in his own world, barely registering the exchange. Baiheng noted his state with a mix of amusement and concern. "Looks like our commander is out of it."
Jinhua sighed, "I didn't think he'd be this affected by a few drinks."
Their light-hearted banter was interrupted by a familiar voice. "And here I am," Hua announced her presence with a dramatic flair.
Baiheng groaned at the unexpected arrival. "You two sisters and your dramatic entrances!"
Hua, almost a mirror image of Jinhua but with a warrior's attire, approached them. Her gaze softened as she looked at Y/N, concern evident in her eyes.
Jinhua quickly stepped in to prevent any misunderstandings. "He's fine, Hua. Baiheng will take him home."
Baiheng nodded in agreement, ready to assume the responsibility. However, Hua's next comment, a jab at Baiheng's abilities, struck a nerve.
Jinhua, sensing the tension, intervened. "That's enough, Hua. You're on house arrest to reflect on your behavior."
Hua bowed in acknowledgment, her face downcast.
The situation grew even more tense with Jingliu's arrival. Her glare towards Hua was as sharp as her sword. Jinhua, trying to maintain peace, apologized for her sister's behavior and inquired about the mission.
Jingliu's response was non-committal, promising a report later. Jinhua accepted the answer, choosing not to pry further.
With the day coming to a close, Jinhua departed with Hua, leaving Jingliu to tend to Y/N. She gently scolded him for his indulgence, receiving only a chuckle in response.
Baiheng, deciding to stay back with Ying Xing, declined Jingliu's invitation to join them. "I'll request a night at the grand hotel from Huaiyan," she said, giving a thumbs-up.
Jingliu and Y/N began their slow walk home, Y/N's arm draped over Jingliu's shoulder for support. Their progress was unhurried, reflecting the care and attention Jingliu gave to Y/N.
Baiheng, now alone with Ying Xing, playfully prodded the boy for more stories about Huaiyan. Ying Xing, caught off guard, hesitated to respond.
The evening settled around them, the voices of Baiheng and Ying Xing fading into the background as Jingliu and Y/N moved further away. The tranquility of the night enveloped them, a stark contrast to the day's events, as they made their way home under the starlit sky.
The air was cool and fresh, a soothing balm after the day's whirlwind of events. Y/N and Jingliu walked slowly, Y/N leaning on Jingliu for support, his steps unsteady but gradually becoming more assured.
"You really shouldn't drink so much, Y/N," Jingliu chided gently, her concern evident in her tone.
Y/N chuckled, a light, airy sound. "I know, I know. But, with Jinhua and Huaiyan, one drink led to another. You know how these things go."
Jingliu sighed, her gaze softening. "I do. But I also know you're not one for alcohol. Seeing you like this is... unsettling."
Y/N's expression turned apologetic. "I'm sorry, Jingliu. I didn't mean to worry you."
They continued in silence for a few moments, the only sounds their synchronized steps and the distant hum of the city. Y/N then glanced at Jingliu, a hint of mischief in his eyes. "You should have seen Baiheng's face when Hua showed up. It was priceless."
Jingliu's lips curled into a smile, despite her effort to stay stern. "I can imagine. Baiheng's expressions are always so... animated."
"Exactly!" Y/N's laughter rang out, clear and genuine. "She's been a good friend. A bit mischievous, but a good friend."
Jingliu nodded, her smile lingering. "She has been good for you, Y/N. I can see that. But don't think that means I've stopped keeping an eye on you."
"I wouldn't expect anything less," Y/N replied, his tone warm. "You've always been my rock, Jingliu."
The compliment brought a deeper blush to Jingliu's cheeks. "Well, someone has to keep you grounded, especially when you're off making grand alliances and facing down Emanators."
Y/N's smile softened, a look of deep gratitude in his eyes. "Thank you, Jingliu. For everything. For being here, for being you."
Jingliu met his gaze, her eyes reflecting the starlight. "Always, Y/N. We've been through too much to let a little alcohol and a few rumors come between us."
Their conversation drifted to lighter topics as they neared home. They reminisce about past adventures, shared inside jokes, and even planned future endeavors. The weight of the day's events seemed to lift with each step, replaced by the comfortable familiarity of their friendship.
As they reached their destination, Y/N stopped and turned to Jingliu. "You know, despite the chaos, I think today was a good day. I'm glad I got to spend it with friends. And with you."
Jingliu nodded, her eyes shining with unspoken emotion. "Me too, Y/N. Me too."
With a final, companionable silence, they entered their home, the night's peacefulness enveloping them like a warm embrace. The day's tensions and temptations had been navigated, and in their place remained the steadfast bond of two souls, united in friendship and mutual respect.
