In My Time Of Dying -- Wake Up

~*****~

Sam sat besides my bed with an exhausted expression as the doctor continued to do rant. "There's no earthly way you can even be breathing right now, Carlotta! I can't explain it! You lost two liters of blood, not to mention the damage done by the wreck, you should be dead! It's no short of a miracle you're even sitting right now!"

I held up my hand. "Go back outside, and do your job." I say evenly. The doctor stops talking, his eyes glaze over, and he steps out of my room. Sam sits up a bit straighter as I sigh and try to shuffle off of the bed.

"Lottie-" Sam started, and grasped onto my arm. "You have to tell me what's going on. You had no pulse when I put you in the car. You-Were-Dead." Sam enunciated.

"I get it, Sam. You're freaked, I am too! Hell, I couldn't even speak at that stupid cabin!" Sam flinched back as I sighed out. "Look, I'll explain everything later, but right now, I need to check on Dean.... Please." Sam didn't budge. "Sam, please... I'm exhausted, I'm scared- I just wanna see him, and feel him...." Sam sighed through his nose and leads me out of my room.

I gazed at Dean's comatose state. He just laid there, strapped up with wires and tubes. Tears built up as I took a seat at his bedside, and grasped his hand. I sniffled a bit and pressed a soft kiss to his hand and leaned forward to kiss his forehead.

"John's awake, right?" I ask softly. Sam gave me a silent nod as I ran my fingers through Dean's hair one more time. I stood, and nearly fell. Sam grunted and caught me. "Sorry... Sorry... I guess I'm still really weak...."

"It's okay..." Sam sighed, and lifted me into his arms...

I watched with a heavy heart as they left my room. God, they were hurting, and I couldn't stop it. Hell, I was causing it. The warmth that she gave me, even as I lay in that bed, I felt it anyway. It reminded me that I wasn't dead. Not yet anyways. I couldn't just leave them alone. They needed me. I took one last look at my broken body before following after them. Lottie just gazed up at the ceilings with her short hair dangling, and swishing with each step Sam took. I wanted to wrap her up in my arms, and smell that sweet smell of peaches she always had. I wish I could tell her that I was okay, that I wasn't going anywhere. I wish I could tell her I'd never leave her.

John laid in his bed, sat up and his arm in a sling. He looked beyond pissed that he was bed ridden, and that was comforting. His expression softened as we entered the room. "Lottie, Sam." The fact that he was his usual self had me sagging in relief. Sam set me down on my feet and waited to make sure I was okay. I gave him a nod and took a seat on one of the chairs by John's bedsides. John fished out his wallet and tugged out the insurance card before handing it to Sam. "Here, give them my insurance."

Sam nodded and took a look at the card. A slow smile appeared on his face. "Elroy McGillicutty?"

"And this three, loving kids." John smiled back. He took a deep breath, and shared a looked with his son. Then, like hawks, they locked their gazes on me. "We need to talk."

"God, kill me now." I sighed and sagged in my chair. "What for?"

"Lottie, you died." John said immediately. I crossed my arms over my chest and sighed. "I mean, the Daeva, the Reaper- you died. Each time." I shot a look at Sam for spilling about the reaper.

"Look, I don't know what to tell you. I'm just as freaked out as you are. But unfortunately, you get the pleasure of not going through that pain every time. So, if we could just please- Drop it."

"Lottie, no. Not this time. We need to know what's going on." Sam commented. "You're freaked out. I get it. But this is not the time to bottle up everything until it blows up on you."

"Sam-"

"I'm not done! We're your family! Okay? Rely on us a little! Tell us what's bothering you!"

"I'm scared, alright?!" I snapped. In that moment, the coffee machine outside our door exploded, sending coffee flying. I went silent and ducked my head down. "This is why I can't express what I'm thinking...."

"Then let's talk about it calmly. I won't push any harder than I need to, and you won't bottle it up, okay?" I flicker my eyes towards him and John a couple of times before nodding slowly. "It, uh.... It started with the reaper to be honest.... I mean, my heart stopped, I felt cold. Real cold. But... It didn't go dark that time. I remember gazing up at the stars, and wondering if that was heaven, but Dean pulled me into his lap, and I just gazed at him, until my heart started beating again. It was terrifying... Everything was shut off, my senses were all offline.... It was an out of body experience...."

"And the Daeva?" John inquired.

"I blacked out. And when I came too, Dean had been crying over me. I had a... dream. Or something.... A man was speaking to me, but... I can't remember a thing he said. I just.... came back.... It felt like a second..." John and Sam shared a look before they decided to change the subject.

"So, what else did the doctor say about Dean?" John asked Sam. I let out a soft sigh of relief.

"Nothing." Sam shook his head. "Look, the doctors wont do anything, we'll have to. That's all. I don't know, I'll find some hoodoo priest and lay some mojo on him."

"We'll look for someone." John confirmed.

"Yeah." Sam sighed.

"But guys, I don't know if we're gonna find anyone." John said. Sam and I shared a panicked look.

"Why not? Lottie found that Faith Healer for Dean before." Sam defended.

"Alright, that was, that was one in a million." John huffed.

"So, what? I'm not just gonna sit here and let him die, dammit!" I snapped.

"No, I said we'd look, alright? I'll check under every stone." John insisted. He looked at Sam, and licked his lower  lip. "Where's the colt?"

"Your son is dying, and you're worried about the colt?!" Sam asked angrily.

"We're hunting this demon, and maybe it's hunting us too. That gun may be our only card!" John explained.

Sam sighed out in aggravation, but he saw where John was coming form. "It's in the trunk. They dragged the car to a yard off of 1-83."

"Alright. You've gotta clean out that trunk before some junk man sees what's inside." John instructed.

"I already called Bobby. He's like an hour out, he's gonna tow the Impala back to his place." Sam said.

"Alright. You, you go meet up with Bobby, you get that Colt, and bring it back to me. And you watch out for hospital security." John said to his son.

"I think I've got it covered." Sam smirked.

"Hey," John stopped him. He handed over a piece of paper. "Here. I made a list of things I need, have Bobby pick them up for me."

"Acacia? Oil of Abramelin?" Sam read the list in confusion. "What's this stuff for?"

"Protection." John said quickly. I cocked my head in confusion. 'Uh... That's no protection I've ever heard of...'

"Hey, Dad? You know, the demon, he said he had plans for me, and children like me. Do you have any idea what he meant by that?" Sam asked.

"No, I don't." John said after some thought. Sam left the room after that, and I stood up on my weak legs. "Where are you going?" John asked as I stumbled to the door.

"See if I can't grab a burger and head to Dean's room." I explain softly before padding out.

I gazed at Lottie's exhausted form as she stumbled down the hallway. People passed her by as if they didn't even see her, and I found myself wondering if she was using the new found powers she had. She entered my room with a heady sigh and leaned against the bed to catch her breath. Tears burst forth as she started hiccuping. "Dean-" Her head pressed against my chest, and I could feel the subtle warmth she supplied. "God, I'm turning into a freak. I don't think I can handle this without you..." A heavy sigh left my lips as the strong woman I fell in love with broke down with each passing minute, and I couldn't do a damn thing to stop it.

"I'm sorry, baby.... But I'm gonna come back. Don't you worry about it." I said softly as I pressed a kiss to her head. I ran a hand over over disheveled hair, and just as I think she's noticed me, she's up in an instant, and running to the door. She gazed outwards, and a sick feeling blossomed within me. A large, black figure flew passed, and she didn't gaze after it. "I take it that you didn't see that?" I mutter as I brushed passed her.

I searched the hallways as I brushed passed people on the way, and they didn't spare me a single glance. Finally, I see a pale, ghost like figure enter a room. I paused before following, and stopped at the threshold. A woman lay on the floor, gasping for air as her body shook rapidly. "Help- Help!" She choked out in a panic.

"Hey! I need some help in here!" I screamed to every doctor I could see down the hallway, but no one cast a glance in my direction.

"I can't- Breath-" She croaked. I rushed into the room, and knelt down besides her. She panted loudly, trying to keep her lungs working, but suddenly, fell silent. I watched helplessly as the life faded from her eyes. I knew there was nothing I could've done, but her death stung like a new wound.
