Chapter One: Awakening
Hailey!!!! Hailey woke abruptly to the echoing sound of her mother's voice reverberating through their modest cabin. The urgency in her tone sliced through the morning calmly like a blade. She heard the shouts of her mum coming towards her bedroom which made her spring up in order to meet her."Hailey! You are a useless brat twenty three without finding your mate and here you are still in bed, Sylvester said.
Get up, we need to prepare for your sister's ceremony which is today so join the maids in preparation since you are useless anyway!"
Pushing past Hailey Sylvester walked towards Hannah who was still soundly asleep. Hannah dear ,she called. You are going to be at your mate's house tonight so we have alot to discuss my lovely daughter since you didn't shame me like some useless brat, she said to Hannah hurting Hailey as she took Hannah to clean up.
Well what can Hailey do? She was used to her mother treating her like that so it was no longer new to her. Hailey is the first daughter of the gamma of Poldark 's pack. Hannah was the only younger sibling Hailey had.
Hailey's family is known as an important one to the pack and that was why her mother treats her like that , of course she thinks Hailey was a disgrace since she still hasn't found her mate at the age of twenty three whereby her younger sibling found her's at nineteen and to add he was a beta so Sylvester couldn't be more proud of Hannah.
With that Hailey was cast aside and considered useless, Hailey's father was the gamma of Poldark pack so he has an important role to play at the pack.
Rubbing sleep from her eyes, Hailey sat up in her small bed, the cool air of the forest cabin chilling her exposed skin. She blinked, trying to shake off the lingering tendrils of her dream. The ceremony—a pivotal moment in her sister's life—loomed large in her mind, casting a mix of excitement and apprehension over the day ahead.
Throwing back the worn covers, Hailey swung her legs over the edge of the bed and slipped her feet into sturdy boots. Her mother's urgency was contagious; there was no time to waste. She hurriedly dressed in simple garments suitable for the occasion, the fabric soft against her skin.
As she made her way to the main room of the cabin, the scent of freshly brewed tea and the crackling warmth of the hearth greeted her. The maids bustled about, laying out ceremonial attire with meticulous care so Hailey joined them in working since she had to obey her mother. Amirah and Tehila were her only friends apart from her younger sister, even though they were her parents maids they talk closer and casually with one another.
I was twenty when I found my mate Tehila said,.., Hailey gazed at Amirah asking when she got mated. Hailey dear I was nineteen when I got mated but that means nothing and I'm sure you will find your mate soon,Amirah said.
Hailey signed then said to them, I should get ready now and check up on Hannah and with that she went to the bedroom gazing at the mirror while touching the necklace around her neck.
Hailey's sister, Hannah, sat there, her face a mixture of nerves and anticipation...
So are you ready for your big day little sis? Hailey said distorting her train of thoughts. Hailey!! Hannah called as she looked at her sister with a bright smile on her face, yes Hailey mum told me not to be scared. Nothing can go wrong Hannah said looking at her sister.
The sisters hugged each other savouring the moment before Hailey said, Hannah I'm proud of you then she hugged her sister back saying I will miss you the most. Cupping her face Hailey said, do you want to ruin your face? Wiping her tears Hailey assured her they will be in touch.
"Hailey, we need to make sure everything is perfect," her mother shouted from behind, her voice a mixture of command and concern. "This ceremony is important for Hannah's future."
Hailey nodded in understanding, her own emotions swirling. She had always been protective of Hannah, a fierce loyalty born from their shared experiences and the bond of sisterhood. Today marked a milestone in Hannah's life, a moment that would shape her path within the pack.
With a deep breath, Hailey steadied herself, ready to play her part in ensuring the ceremony unfolded flawlessly. Little did she know, this day would set into motion events that would alter not only Hannah's fate but her own journey in ways she could never have imagined.
This introduction sets the stage for Hailey's involvement in her sister's important ceremony, hinting at the familial dynamics and the pivotal role it plays in their lives within the pack.
Hailey watched as her little sister, Hannah, left their family home with her mate, her heart aching with a mixture of pride and profound sorrow. As the days turned into weeks, a pervasive emptiness began to settle within her. She was twenty-three and still had not found her own mate, a fact that her mother never hesitated to remind her of.
"You're an embarrassment to this family," her mother would often say, her words laced with venom. "Why can't you be more like Hannah?"
Hailey tried to keep her head high, but each cruel comment chipped away at her spirit. The two maids, Amirah and Tehila, saw the pain in her eyes and tried their best to lift her spirits. They organized activities, from painting sessions in the garden to evening tea parties, but nothing seemed to reach the depths of Hailey's despair.
One afternoon, as Hailey sat by the window staring blankly at the rain, Amirah approached her with a gentle smile. "Hailey, would you like to join us in the kitchen? We're baking your favorite cookies."
Hailey shook her head, her eyes remaining distant. "I don't feel like it, Amirah."
Tehila joined them, her hands dusted with flour. "We could use your help, you know. Besides, there's something soothing about baking."
Hailey sighed, feeling the weight of her loneliness and her mother's disdain. "I appreciate what you're trying to do, but I just can't."
Amirah and Tehila exchanged a worried glance. They knew Hailey was struggling, and they were determined to find a way to bring back the light in her eyes. Amirah gently placed a hand on Hailey's shoulder. "We won't give up on you, Hailey. You're stronger than you think, and we'll be here for you, no matter what.
Hailey, now deeply engulfed in her sadness, decided one morning that she needed to do something—anything—to escape her thoughts. She shifted and set off, hoping the physical exertion might clear her mind.
She ran and ran, the sound of her footsteps on the pavement becoming a rhythm that drowned out her mother's harsh words and her own feelings of inadequacy. But no matter how far she ran, the emptiness inside her only grew more profound.
After what felt like hours, Hailey found herself in a secluded part of the park, away from the prying eyes of others. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the grass, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The tears she had held back for so long finally began to flow freely.
She cried for Hannah, who had found her happiness and left her behind. She cried for herself, feeling unworthy and unloved. She cried for the harshness of her mother's words, which had carved deep wounds into her heart.
As her sobs subsided, she felt a hand gently rest on her shoulder. She looked up through her tears to see Amirah and Tehila, their expressions filled with concern and compassion. They must have followed her, knowing she was at her breaking point.
Without a word, Amirah sat down beside her and wrapped her arms around Hailey, holding her as she cried. Tehila knelt in front of her, offering a handkerchief and a kind smile.
"It's okay to feel this way," Tehila said softly. "You don't have to be strong all the time."
Hailey leaned into Amirah' as embrace, feeling a glimmer of comfort in their presence. "I don't know what to do anymore," she whispered. "I feel so lost."
"We'll find a way through this together," Amirah said, her voice steady and reassuring. "You're not alone, Hailey. We believe in you, even if you don't believe in yourself right now."
Tehila nodded. "And we won't stop trying to help you. One step at a time, we'll find your happiness."
For the first time in a long while, Hailey felt a small flicker of hope. Maybe, just maybe, with Amirah and Tehila by her side, she could start to heal and find her own path to happiness.
