CHAPTER 5
you sat beside dean's hospital bed in his hospital room as you studied his handsome face. the stuble on his chin, the perfect jaws on your display, his nose and adorable lips. there weren't any movement from dean except his chest raising and falling as he breathed and he looked calm. it's not that you're afraid of him or intimidated by him because you're the pack alpha for a reason, but despite the roughness that you withnessed in the cell and on the field, you could feel dean's a soft man. your mind reminded back to the time when he was protective over sam.
you heard the full story from paul, the guard who let him loose from his cell. though you have an idea why, but it's safe to not let paul and everybody else knows why dean was reacting as if his heart burning with fire and begging paul to let him out. he was shouting and screaming at paul, eyes dangerous, as he begged and begged paul to let him free. sam beside his cell heard the chaos and began to shout for dean's name, but with sam acting like that, it gave dean more motivation to be feral. when paul ignored him, he began to injure himself by punching the wall, hitting himself in the face, clawing his chest. so paul had to let him free before he wounded himself more.
you tried to hold dean's hand while he's asleep, to see you'd get a reaction from dean, but you remembers that dean rejected you. all of a sudden, those calmness inside your chest was replaced with anger and shame as you watched dean's forehead knitted.
"that's for rejecting me, dean," you whispered to yourself angrily. then you remembered you haven't interrogated sam. just now you know what to do with him. with dean locked in the hospital room passed out, you know he cannot do anything else especially when you's drugged with a human sleeping serum for him to rest. his wounds are going to take time to recover, as well as his energy. whatever hunting job he was doing before he was taken captive in your pack cell, they can wait.
you quickly left dean's hospital room, headed to the pack cell for sam first thing, but you were stopped by steve just outside the hospital wing. he looked annoyed. "alpha, you're missing your meeting."
"i need to see sam."
"sam?"
"dean's brother."
steve becomes angry with your plan. "right now? right in the middle when you're supposed to attend a meeting? other alphas are expecting you to report about the hunters in our cell!"
"you attend the meeting on behalf of me, then," you simply said as you took the turn outside of the pack house, meeting the field.
"alpha. there's another issue that you might want to take a look." steve handed a piece of paper. you took the paper mindlessly, but as soon as you read the headline, you knew you're in trouble and your pack is in danger. it's not that your pack members are not taught how to live and blend in with the humans, but this is hunters. a community of angry hunters, searching for their lost fellow hunters and sam and dean now are in the headline of supernatural newspaper.
you stopped walking, followed by steve who was watching you and waiting for your next move. you sighed, head already fuzzy with things that you didn't think would happen. "you attend the meeting. tell them that we're doing as best as we could to get informations on the hunters. tell them about their weapons, but omit the fact that one of them was bonded to me."
steve didn't want to attend the meeting, but he had no choice. "fine."
"and then report to me what they're discussing about. i–" you saw a familiar shadow at the tail of your eyes. it's hard to miss him when your brain and your body already recognise him in all sorts of way. you whispered his name, and as if he could hear you, he stopped, turning to where you're standing with steve and waiting for you to come and meet him.
"i've got to go," you told steve before running towards the man, who's constantly on your mind. "elijah!"
"alpha." you were astounded. you felt your heart fell when you heard him addressing you with your title as he nodded his head at you. your wolf – you – don't like him calling you with that name especially when there's no one else around because you feel as if there's a wall between you and elijah, though cannot be mad at him with your current situation. you wondered if that causes elijah to started calling you alpha.
"elijah, about yesterday, i–"
elijah smiled at you, though the smiled didn't actually reach his eyes, but it was still sweet. and you bought the lie in his smile as he assured you that he was fine. "i may not understand about this bond thing seeming i don't have one to experience, but i'm okay. you don't have to worry about me."
you looked into elijah's eyes sadly. sad for him and for you, too. you started to think why does the moongoddess decided to choose you to have a destined mate? but even if she does think you're special, why can't it be elijah? why does it have to a human, a hunter – supernatural hunter – who has a good community to protect them?
"how's dean?"
"recovering," you answered shortly.
"why are you not with him right now?" elijah squinted his eyes at you, giving you a questioning look.
"because i needed to talk to the other hunter," you answered honestly, prepared to get lectured by elijah. but the respond you received from him was not from what you expected. you're not sure either you should be happy or worried about him.
elijah sighed and chuckled at him even though there's nothing funny to be laughed at. "i swear to the moongoddess that you're always heading to the cell when i'm off the clock."
"elijah, i'm an alpha. i can be anywhere i want with or without you."
"i know. but, sweetheart, that doesn't make me feel any better. the fact that you, basically, do not need me anymore scares me the most and you know how honest i am with my feelings towards you," elijah said as if he thought you were questioning his act of love towards you. "do you have the decision for them yet?"
"that's why i need to see sam because i have a feeling that he can give us the answers."
"what about us staying away from each other?" elijah asked as he admired your feature. his dark eyes always flicked to your lips, but never really make a move about it.
"i'm not going to do that just because of dean at the bond," you answered honestly, causing elijah to jump in happiness inside.
elijah nodded his head understood. "please, becareful, y/n. you mean so much to me. i don't want to lose you."
* * *
"i should be attending a meeting with other alphas from the neighbouring pack, but look where i am now: in your cell, about to makes friends with you." you said as you entered sam's cell and stood directly in front of sam.
"you must be the alpha," sam picked up pieces on your sentences. he looked up at you with curiosity in his eyes and slight ajar of his lips. adorable, you thought, but you have another man that you fell in love with.
"huh. they're right. you're smarter than your brother." you smirked when you noticed a slight blush on sam's cheeks when you complimented him. adroble, you thought, but you have a man that you already fallen in love with. "so you want to explain to me why you and your brother were here couple of weeks ago?"
"you're the alpha. why don't you tell me?"
"huh. c'mon, sam. you're smart. you know how us werewolves do our job, right? when we ask questions, you answer. or, you'll see death before you can say goodbye."
"i've seen deaths many times before. how's this different with the others?" you can feel sam's rage from the smell he released through his body. at the same time, he was scared that you're going to do anything to him.
"look, i know that you don't want to be here if it weren't because of your brother. you wish to be released as soon as possible to continue your hunting life. god, angels, demons, vampires? yeah, it seems easier than being held in captive by werewolves. but you're everywhere on the supernatural news recently, so i can't let you out without any deals."
sam glared at you with his small dark eyes. even without hearing his heartbeat, with his chest raising and falling, you know his heart rate is rising. sam felt blood rushed to his face as he holds down his anger towards you. "tell me dean is fine." he sounded desperate when it comes to dean.
"he is, though he may need a little more time to recover. he injured himself pretty badly when one of my guards didn't let him out. that's for rejecting the bond."
"dean rejected your bond?" sam was surprised to hear that coming from your own mouth, though no one told him about dean rejecting his mate. he's been in the cell for two weeks. there were two times when he was visited by your pack members. one was a day after he was kept captive; then the time when steve entered to hurt him to make dean tell the truth. you felt bad for him, though. after that incident, you really wished you went for sam'a first especially now knowing sam's better at communicating.
"you look like you know not to reject a mate bond."
"i– i read it somewhere. that as mates, neither of you can reject the bond. otherwise, it's going be like you're living in hell." sam's brief explanation yet still complete with important details made you wonder how long they've been hunters really. sam sounded like that information had been living inside his head for years that he didn't have to read a script to repeat it anymore.
"it may not going to hurt me as much because i'm an alpha, but it's going to hurt dean especially when he's human. human's system doesn't recognise mating bond like us who are born werewolf so we're used to it, though werewolf omegas can be feeling like how dean is feeling."
"shit," sam muttered to himself, looking somewhere else as he was thinking of something. "so what now?"
"i'm going to ask you all over again starting from why you're here and how did you know that there's a werewolf community here because i need to understand more."
"i thought you asked dean."
"i did, but i kind have a feeling that dean didn't really tell me the truth. and i have a feeling that you're easier to communicate with."
sam slumped his shoulders as he sighed as if fed up how his brother acted. he also looked as if he'd been dealing the same with dean's behaviour and it's fun to watch. "dean is always like that. he's used to lying to our dad when were little. i got in troubles countless of times because of my stupid decisions and dean was always there to cover for me."
"so, you want to start telling me why you were at the border of my pack territory?"
sam gulped, finding words to say.
"i suggest you start telling now so that i can come with a decision sooner. for as long as you and your brother are here, my pack members are agitated. they don't feel safe knowing there were hunters in the territory and it's my duty to make them feel safe."
"alright, alright, i'll start." sam sighed in frustration when he was forced. "we didn't know the exact location of your pack, but yes, we were looking for your pack. and the reason why we were looking for your pack was because we were told that there was an alpha in your pack territory was destined to be bonded with dean. it's you, i guess. look, we didn't know much about werewolf bonds, but we did research for like months until we found it."
"thought you're a hunter for ages, but did i hear you say you didn't know what a werewolf bond means?"
"between a werewolf alpha and omega to bond and mate each other, yes. but not between a human and a werewolf. it's rare."
sam was right. it's rare enough that werewolves have destined mates let alone a werewolf's destined mate is human. "you told dean the consequences if he rejected the bond?"
"everything: he can turn to be a werewolf if he mated with you, but actually turn into a shape-shifter because he's not born with it. i told him that if he ever wanted children, his children could also be werewolves and how one or two of them might not be able to shift into their wolf form because they're form an alpha mother and human dad. i told him that once he's bonded and mated with you, it's hard to him to do his hunting routine because he's going to wanting to be close to you because that's werewolf thing."
"and yet he rejected me."
"look, dean loves to do thing on his own. he doesn't like asking for help from someone or knowing someone is going to pity him and do things for him. he likes to be able to roam around the country freely without any attachments or having someone else to worry for him or him to worry for. it makes sense why he rejected it."
"right. i'm going to do something for that and see if he can stand alone when he's afar from me."
"you're going to let us go?"
"no, not yet," you quickly answer. the hope in sam's eyes faded. "let's go back to how you know dean's having a destined werewolf mate. who told him that?"
"there was this girl. her name was madison. she was bitten by her neighbour. do you know her?"
you shook your head. no, madison was not from your pack and you tried to remember if you ever heard a werewolf named madison, but none came into your mind. "no. and the one who bit her was probably a rogue so–"
"anyway, for some reason, after gotten bitten, she has an ability to tell the future from her dream. so there was this one night when she dreamed of dean meeting a werewolf. your name was not pronounced, but she said it was an alpha woman of the current pack alpha."
"dean killed her because he didn't believe in what she said."
sam nodded his head, though pulled a disgusting face. "dean has trust issues that sometimes, he took things seriously. but still, he looked into the dreams and we were lucky we found madison's diary. she wrote everything in it so that's how we found-not-exactly-found your pack territory. but we learn about wereolves from books in our bunker."
"ah. you have a bunker. i hope it's not the place where you keep your little supernatural hunters community there."
sam stared as you as he waited for you to explain more.
"your fellow hunters are looking for you and dean right now, so i guess you're not going anywhere soon," you told him.
"what?" sam looked at you unbelievable as if not believing what he just heard.
"but if you want me to, atleast, let you free from your cell, you have to promise me to make dean accept the bond again. or dean will be going to live like this forever."
you don't know that you want to keep dean as your mate because you know you want elijah more than dean. your wolf wants dean to be yours forever because that's what she naturally wants, but your mind and your soul is for elijah and you know that. you don't want to make yourself thinking that you did the wrong decision by remembering what elijah once had told you, that you have to try befriending dean and see if both of you can work it out. he also told you to tell him everything that you feel about dean. you know both of you cannot get away from this, but why does it feel so wrong to do it? and why does making dean stay just because of the bond feels right?
you and sam had a deal. you promised to free sam within this week and that he can visit dean soon, but right now, you need to find your beta.
