CHAPTER 3
"the hunters are well kept inside our cell. they're in good hands of our pack wardens. for as long as i can remember they're harmless–" you said to the alphas in front of you. all have straight, cold faces with big arms crossed on their chests.
"harmless?" one of them cut you off. his blue eyes and frown on the lips almost gave you off before you remember that you're an alpha, too. that shouldn't intimidate you. "they almost killed one of your pack warriors. have you figured out what was in their bullet?"
"we're still figuring them out," you answered.
"so i take that since you haven't figured out what they out in their bullets, you haven't figured out the cure. tell me why we're here again?" the same blue-eyed alpha demanded. he looked irritated that you called the meeting on the last minute while he was doing pack visit at his own pack. sure, every pack has their own rules, regulations and organisation. and for chris's pack, the pack house was run by the pack gamma. the alpha has his own property not far from the pack house and when he does a pack visit, he will expect a perfect condition there.
four of you are in the middle of a conjunction that three of the neighbouring pack meets. the other two was quite a distance, but only one from two of the farthest neighbouring pack appeared. recognising the alpha, the pack warriors gave permission for them to cross the border and meet up there. the sudden meeting caused every alpha and every pack members in the every pack felt weird. instantly, they knew something was happening. but just like politics, none of the alpha told their pack members what was really happening.
"i just wanted to inform you. that's all." you shrugged, smirked at chris annoyance that somehow you felt amusing.
"what the hell? you could've just inform us over google meet or something." chris shook his head, continued to nag in his wolf when he shifted and ran back to his pack territory. the other three followed suit, leaving you with straight face. their pheromones radiates annoyance and anger. all except one last alpha pheromone that was hiding behind a tree bunk not far from you.
you heard his steady heartbeat before you turned around and watched him standing there in the shadows. he walked up into the light, a friendly smile plastered on his face. "elijah."
"you know, if i didn't know any better, i would accuse chris for having a thing with you." he smelled normal for the first time in days since there was a breach at the border. he looked almost too happy to see you make chris mad because everyone knows how chris is the most easily annoyed alpha, especially when it comes to you. no matter what you do is always wrong to him, but no matter what you did, he cannot hurt you.
you laughed. "what makes you say that?"
elijah paused, thinking chris's behaviour when you're around him, when you think no one notices how chris behaves around you. but seeing them in his own mind, causing a great distraction to his wolf and he gets mad. before the wolf decided to shift out of anger, he said, "just forget it."
"let's get back to the pack house." you walked pass him to shift into your wolf form to run back, but elijah stopped you by grabbing your feminine wrist. you're to stand face-to-face with elijah. he turned serious in a blink of an eye.
"why didn't you tell me that you have a destined mate?" he asked. his was was low and stern, though still laced with softness.
you didn't answer at first. your face went pale. it was supposedly not a surprise for you that elijah knows after what he confronted the other day at the dining table in front other higher rankers, but to hear him asking in front of you was nerve wrecking. you felt your alpha wolf whined, detecting a pack member in need of comfort, but elijah isn't just another pack member. he's everything your soul wants.
"are you going to answer me or not?"
"elijah, i–"
"were you waiting for me to find it out first so that i'd watch you begging me for an apology?" his breath hitched. "did you even plan to tell me about that?"
"i don't know how to answer your question."
elijah let go of you hand. the lost of his sense touch made you crave for it more and it takes everything in you to not lean into him. "i'm very upset with you, y/n. having a destined mate is something that you cannot hide especially from me. how could you not tell me sooner?" he threw against the tree bunk behind him, looking down at his boots showing his vulnerable side to you and only you.
"this is a new, elijah," you said so softly that it sounded almost like a whisper. "i don't know how to explain to you. i don't even know that i have a destined mate. nobody tells me that i'm going to have a destined mate."
elijah almost did not believe you when you said that didn't know. "you grew up being trained as an alpha by some of the best pack elders."
"you think i'm lying," you pointed out, though not actually angry at him because you understand if you were in his shoes. elijah quickly felt bad when he was wrong. "trust me, elijah. i don't know. if i knew, i'd tell you a long time ago. if i knew, i wouldn't let you fall in love me." you answered calmly, knowing that if you raise your voice, you're going to have an argument with elijah.
but elijah is a patient man. years at the pack cell and years as a head warden of pack cell taught his wolf how to stay calm even at tought situation. he can turn on and off his wolf anytime he wants. think about it like hulk. elijah quickly felt guilty for accusing you of not being honest with him when he betrayed you few years ago. he stood straight on his feet, close the distance between you and him. he cupped your face and kissed your forehead, vomitting all the he has inside of him through the kiss. after kissing, he stayed his forehead onto yours.
"i don't understand what's happening to me, elijah. this bond– just making my wolf crazy." you looked up at elijah's handsome face. seeing the hurt on his face, you decided not to tell him more about your feelings towards your destined mate. "i understand if you want to leave."
elijah smiled at you. "i'd do anything, but leaving you is not one of them."
***
the unpleasant smells of urines, vomits, people rotting inside their cell hit your nose as soon as the guards of pack cell opened the heavy towards the pack cell. steve, rick and gen are close on your tail as you entered deeper inside the cell, and finally stopped in between two doors. the door on your right leads you to the taller man with long hair. elijah didn't mention his name, but you can guess that he's sam meanwhile the door on your left is dean's. you see them sitting on the cold floor, though sam didn't give you any reaction, but dean. he makes your wolf stirred inside you. your wold urged you to save dean – take dean out of the cell and bring him to your alpha house and tend his injuries (if he bad any injuries) and get to know him, instead of interrogate him, there. because your wolf knows your alpha house is a safe place to be with your human mate.
you chose to enter dean's cell first, although you know that that's probably one of the worst decision you ever made. there was a loud buzz when one of the guards pressed a button to unlock the door. it caught dean's attention. he looked up at the door, shocked and afraid as if he was tortured by a werewolf before and that caused your wolf to growl, already imagining yourself tearing the wolf's throat apart, but then he saw you. thanks to your pheromones, though doesn't work on a human, but in human's term, it's your aura that calmed him down. like you can hear his heartbeat slowly turning steady. he deeply sighed as his shoulders relaxed.
he smelled unpleasant, at first, but when he calmed down he emitted that sweet smell again and it causes you to drool. without your consciousness, you scented him. smelling someone who's one meter apart from you is still scenting. outside, gen was a little worried about your step on scenting him either you're aware or not.
"dean winchester." his name sends shivers to your spine and it sounds like a melody to your ears. you feel the butterflies inside your belly as your tongue rolled with his name. "the guy beside your cell is your brother sam?"
"is sam alright? is he hurt? what did you do to him?" his voice was low and raspy. his eyes sharp and he glared at you. you know if you weren't an alpha, you'd be nervous under his stare.
"he's safe," you answered shortly. "how are you this morning?" it's your alpha wolf asking her mate about dean's well-being before you can tune the question, regarding the subject you wanted to ask.
dean laughed at you. "you're kidding me right now, right? i'm trapped in a cell that's full of werewolves. for all we know, if you wanted me dead, you already kill me now. so what do you from me? us? why are you keeping us here?"
"why are you here?"
"i asked you first."
"it doesn't work like that in the werewolf community. if a werewolf asks you a question, you answer quickly before he/she bites your neck."
"well, it doesn't work with you now, huh? i haven't answered your damn question and you haven't killed me yet."
you observed the man in front of him, wanting to see if he's serious. the alpha in you felt insulted when dean threw you like that so even if you don't want to, you walked towards the glass, pressed a button and ordered in your alpha voice, "steve, ready your claws then enter the cell beside this one and poke the resident anywhere you want."
you can feel steve, rick, gen and other guards were astounded with your decision. even with the thick cell wall, you can still feel steve's presence outside so you pressed the button again and said, "go." while looking at the glass where you can see a pair of steve's wolf's eyes.
"wait– wait– wait– what are you going to do with him?" dean sounded scared to hear his brother's going to get hurt.
"you heard me," you answered him with a villain smirk. just in time, you hear sam's scream, asking steve what was he doing inside his cell and soon, a shrill came out from sam's throat as steve fulfils your order. you watched as dean continued to look angry and scared for sam. "you hear that? that's the sound of your brother getting totured if you decided not to cooperate with me."
dean ran towards the wall that connected between his cell and sam's. "sam! sam!" dean screamed at the wall for his brother's name, but sam didn't react to his call. he continued to scream at the top of his lungs when steve continued to injure him with his claws. dean turned to you. "stop! you can't hurt him! stop!"
"not if you don't promise me to tell why you're here. and everything else that leads you here."
"okay! okay! fine! we have a deal! now stop them!" dean pointed his finger at the wall. he watched you concentrated on something and, as soon as he requested to stop, sam's scream stopped. he let sighed heavily.
"now, are we ready for the interrogation?" you smiled mischievously at dean.
while you're busy with your interrogation with dean who's between coperating and not cooperating with you, steve had called the medic to help with sam's wound. none of them was against your idea of hurting other people during an interrogation, but the fact that you're hurting your mate's brother, though being human, but being born and bred as an alpha, the bond between you and dean is strong and you can feel all of his feelings. that's what they're worried about that they had to call elijah to come at the cell in case anything happen to you.
elijah was still having a peace of his mind when he heard gen called him. he wanted to disregard her about you, but elijah knows he cannot forgive himself if there was anything happening to you. in the middle of chasing butterflies, elijah ran back to the pack house and headed straight towards the pack cell. the first thing that he noticed thought was the blood on steve's hands.
"what happened to your hand?" elijah sounded genuinely concerned, though he and steve doesn't get along that much. steve gestured his chin towards sam, whose arm was already bandaged by now.
"for the love of the moongoddess." elijah sighed, knowing exactly what happened. his heart begins to worry about you. thus, he concentrates on your heartbeat inside the cell as you continued to talk to dean.
they were a few things that elijah missed, though. like how sam and dean knew about the existence of a werewolf community here although they built the community away from people's ears and eyes. it was from a diary they found from someone they used to protect. an innocent girl, who was bitten by a pure-blood werewolf who turned out to be her neighbour. long story short, the girl somehow got an extra ability, that whatever she dreams about usually was true, so she told dean that she a dream that dean was going to have a mate with an alpha. sam believed her, but dean didn't so dean killed her himself. but even so, dean was the one who wanted to see if she was right apart from being already dead. the girl didn't tell the brothers the exact locations of your pack, but it was mentioned in her diary.
and elijah missed the look on dean's face when he found out that his mate was in front of him. like he didn't believe that madison was correct and the alpha is currently standing in front of him right now. an alpha who tortured his brother's physical and his mental to get the informations from him. but dean was also thinking how much of an advantage if you join them as hunters, though dean has a back-up plan laid out at the back of his head.
"also, the reason why i came is because i don't want that mating bond," dean confessed, in which, breaking your inner into million pieces. you can feel your heart shattering and how you suddenly had a hard time breathing even with dean's sweet smell is still lingering on your nose. but your mate is rejecting you and no one can say that you're only being dramatic.
not feeling good as human, you let your wolf takes over your body. everyone, including elijah watched as you suddenly stood straight like your confidence cannot be traded. your fingers bending like you're ready to give your claws out. and you can feel your eyes changing into your wolf's eyes.
"alpha. you don't want to turn now," you heard steve through the intercom.
"tell me why you cannot accept the bond," you growled as you show dean your true wolf. his heartbeat was like a drum to your ears, but that excites you more than you expected – to see your mate afraid of you after hurting you is like you won your life.
"because i'm a hunter. i don't work well with relationship and stuffs. and commitment sucks." dean could feel his own heart breaking when he said that and he couldn't even understand why he feels that. he haven't known you long enough to develop any kind of feelings towards you. "you– your eyes–"
you laughed. "what about now? you still want to reject the bond so i'll leave you alone?" you showed dean your canine, and the saliva that flows on your sharp teeth. again, when dean eyes those fangs and back away, your feel your heart grows with proud seeing that your mate being afraid at you at his own stupid decision. "even if you know what rejecting the bond could do to you?"
"bond? i never felt the bond or nothing," dean lied. but even if he does, you cannot determine it because your head was clouded with the word 'rejected' so you cannot think straight. your wolf was so angry at dean that when you opened your mouth, elijah knows what you were going to say.
"open the door! open that damn door quick!" when the foor buzzed again, elijah launched himself inside. dean watched as what laid in font of him in shock. elijah grabbed you by the arm, pulled out of the cell before you could finish your sentence – the sentence that you might going to regret for the rest of your life.
"what are you doing?!" elijah was afraid for you when he scremed in front of your face. "you can't just reject him like that when he bluntly rejects you! shit, y/n! you're an alpha! you should know–"
your wolf pushed elijah hard. he was thrown towards the middle of the hallway and and then fell flat on his face. "let me do it!" you watched elijah being still for a few moments before turning back towards dean's cell to continue the rejection, but elijah once again caught you and stopped you from entering the cell. gen, who was near you and elijah started to chant the alpha spell, but it doesn't do anything towards you.
"why is it not working?!" rick asked as he watched you and elijah battle like a nightmare. true that they've watched you duelling with other alphas before, but it still scares them.
but what they thought isn't working was not correct at all. it just happened not at the right time. you, indeed, slowed your movement after gen chanted the alpha spell many times. the grip you have around elijah's throat loosened. your claws retracting back to your fingers, leaving only nails. so as your fangs.
steve gasped. "dean."
everyone turned to look at dean who was on his four, whining in pain as he clutched his chest, where he through the pain was coming from. when actually, it came from everywhere as result on him rejecting the bond. and you, as his alpha mate, felt his pain.
"y/n," elijah called you warily. he was breathing hard as he watched you watching dean crying in agony. elijah watched as your face turned soft as you watched you and how you, immediately, felt guilty. his pain was not only because of him rejecting the bond, but you having an intense fight with elijah. "are you–"
elijah had to stop when he saw your dull eyes looking up at him. you had fully returned to your human form. no fangs, no claws, no bright yellow eyes. just you in your human form and your dark eyes looking at him. "–lijah–"
you fell and passed out in his arms.
