Forty-Two

Umbridge continued to attempt to keep the different houses apart, Calliope and Fred earned several detentions after being caught in secret passages disobeying Educational Decree Number Thirty-One.

"Something is going to happen today!" Calliope said in a sing-song voice as she and Natalie ate their lunch in the great hall.

"Something like what?" Natalie asked, "like another troll in the castle, or like the troll eating Umbridge, or like the Chamber of Secrets being opened again?"

"You jump to conclusions way too much," Calliope shook her head, "I mean something like Fred and George causing havoc. Fred is excited when Fred is excited it means that he and George are up to something." She had been feeling excitement radiating towards her through the bond for the entire morning, and it was coming to a head at that very moment. Calliope felt a sudden spike of fear from Fred, followed by a feeling of Apprehension. There was a bang in the Entrance Hall, and a sudden rush of movement as the students hurried out to see what was going on.

"I think you might be about to find out what's got him so excited," Natalie said as she grabbed Calliope's arm and pulled her up, dragging her toward the commotion.

"So!" Umbridge said. She was standing a few steps up on the marble staircase. Students were gathered in a ring around the walls and on the stairs. Natalie pushed forward to the front of the crowd and they were able to see Fred and George stood in the middle of the empty space, looking like two people who had just been caught red-handed. "You think that it's amusing to turn a school corridor into a swap, do you?"

"Pretty amusing yeah," Fred said, on the outside, Fred showed only the smallest sign of fear, but Calliope could feel his fear despite his confident demeanour.

"I've got the form Headmistress!" Flitch wheezed as he ran towards Umbridge waving a piece of parchment in the air, "I've got the form and I've got the whips waiting... oh let me do it now!"

"Very good Argus," Umbridge said, "You two," she returned to gazing intently at Fred and George, "are about to learn what happens to wrongdoers in my school."

"You know what?" said George, "I don't think we are."

Fred nodded in agreement and turned to speak to George, "George, I think we've outgrown full-time education."

George nodded, "I've been feeling that way myself."

"Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" said Fred.

"Definitely," said George.

Before anyone could do anything, both of the twins raised their wands, "Accio brooms!"

There was a loud series of crashed as the brooms ripped themselves free of their bonds in Umbridge's office and zoomed towards their owners. One of the brooms still had a heavy metal chain attached to it which was the cause of most of the clanking.

"We won't be seeing you," Fred told Umbridge as he swung his leg over his broomstick, which was the one with the chain attached.

"Yeah, don't bother to keep in touch," George mirrored his brother.

Fred took this last opportunity to advertise the new joke shop, telling the students that they could buy one of the portable swamps as demonstrated upstairs in their shop and George promised a discount to Hogwarts students trying to get rid of Umbridge.

The twins both kicked off of the ground, George began to fly towards the open doors to the grounds. Fred however, swooped low over the crowd, his eyes scanning the gathered students to find Calliope. When Fred flew near to Calliope, she lifted her arm to grab onto the dangling chain from his broom and using it to pull herself up to the broom.

"STOP THEM!" Umbridge screamed, but it was too late. Calliope was settled on the broom behind Fred, whose eyes now sought out Peeves.

"Give her hell from us Peeves!" He commanded.

Peeves (much to everyone's shock) swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as both of the twins zoomed out into the grounds to tumultuous applause from the students.

Fred, George and Calliope zoomed off into the glorious sunset.
