Ten

Liz's party was like every other teen party. Bad music exploded out of the speakers, couples were grinding messily on the dance floor, and the fridge was full of cheep food. Like the sensible person he was (well, sometimes was) Emil was busy making himself a delicious ham sandwich in the kitchen. He was just about to take a bite when the front door opened, looking up he spotted Peter and his friend Ned (he had finally remembered the boy's name) enter.

Emil let his eye subtly observe them as they gazed around the hall. He found the cute blue button up and grey tshirt combo that Peter was wearing cute and inwardly smiled a little.

Next to him MJ, an acquaintance of his who he had met during detention, glanced up from spreading chocolate on her toast. "I can't believe you guys are at some lame party", she commented.

"But you're here too", Ned frowned in confusion.

MJ raised and eyebrow, "am I?" She asked, causing Emil to snort, before biting her toast and walking away.

"So you made it", Emil smiled at them, enjoying the way Peter suddenly became flustered.

"Hey Emil", Ned greeted cheerfully.

"Hi Emil", Peter squeaked as his voice cracked.

"Oh my gosh, hey guys", Liz's voice rang out, interrupting, as she walked towards them from the dance floor. "Cool hat Ned".

Ned grinned at her compliment whilst Peter's face grew even redder. Liz noticed the sandwich in Emil's grasp and slapped him playfully on the back of the hand.
"Emil, what have I told you about eating all my food?" She chided.

Emil pouted. "But you always have better food than me. And this is a party. You can't stop me eating".

"That's because you can't be bothered to do some proper grocery shopping. Instead you waste away on snacks", Liz sighed, turning to smile warmly at Peter and Ned who had been watching the small interaction. "Well, there's pizza and drinks if you want", she offered, pausing as a crash sounded from another part of the house. "I'd better go and check that out, my parents will kill me if anything gets broken". And then she left, mingling back with the crowd.

"So you love snacks?" Ned questioned in an effort to break the slightly awkward silence as Emil took a bite of his sandwich.

"High metabolism", Emil choked out through a mouthful of food. "Keeps me going and I can't really cook".

"So you live alone?" Peter asked, slightly surprised. "Where are your parents?"

Emil swallowed before clearing his throat. "My mum died and my dad is on a business trip", he lied easily.

Peter grimaced. He could relate to having no parents. All he had was his aunt May and after what happened with uncle Ben, he would rather die before he lost her.

"Um you should come to mine for dinner sometime", he offered, blushing profoundly. "My aunt May makes a mean macaroni and cheese".

Emil's eyes widened as he grinned. "Really? You'll cook me dinner?"

"It would be my aunt May doing the cooking but yeah", Peter mumbled suddenly finding his shoes very interesting.

Emil's face lit up. Dropping the half eaten sandwich back onto a plate, he pulled out his phone. "Have my number. Then we can keep in contact".

Peter stared at the silver object for a second before fumbling around in his pockets. Swapping devices, Emil and Peter both tapped their numbers into contacts before returning them. As Peter handed Emil back his phone it vibrated and a text message appeared on screen. Emil's face creased into a frown as he read the message.

"Sorry guys but I've got to go", he apologised as he picked up the remains of his sandwich. "See ya Ned", he waved, already heading towards the door. "And Peter, text me!"

Both boys watched silently as the door closed slowly on the retreating blue eyed boy. There was a brief pause before Ned let out a sigh. "You just got Emil's number", he congratulated Peter, who was still gazing at the closed door. "All you need to do now is go all Spidy then he'll date you".

Instead of responding, Peter just groaned and rested his head on the nearest wall. "Why does this boy insist on killing me? Did you see how excited he got over my offer for dinner? It was so adorable. I just can't".

Ned patted him soothingly on the back. "I know. You've got a huge crush which is not decreasing any time soon. Anyway, go and become Spider-Man so that we can become cool", he urged, pushing Peter into a full standing position.

Peter just sighed.
