23 | Sickly

| Devin's POV |

I didn't even want to fall asleep! I was afraid this could have been a dream, and that I'd wake up. It wasn't though; this was reality. Finally, Shiloh was wrapped up in my arms again. His frail body rested against mine as I woke up. The snow had completely covered the landscape outside. I didn't care that we were snowed in, because I never want to leave this moment.

Shiloh looked very sick. His body was so tiny, more tiny than it ever had been. Since I've known him, the lowest weight he ever got was 112lbs, and that was when he first was fighting his HIV. Now, I could swear he looked 90lbs. His beautiful face, had fallen in, and his skin was drained of color. No matter what, he was still gorgeous to me.

I delicately kissed his forehead to wake him. He smelled so sweet, just like his personality. Shiloh moaned softly and snuggled closer into me. I glanced over at the clock to see it was 10AM.

"The house smells like pancakes." He sleepily mumbled.

I laughed at his adorableness. "Chris always makes pancakes on holidays. Even the shit holidays, like Martin Luther King Day or Presidents Day. I think he just looks for excuses to make pancakes."

"You don't need a reason to make pancakes. They're enough reason themselves." He joked.

Shiloh was still pretty sleepy. I gave him several more kisses to wake him, which resulted in him giggling. I missed that giggle so damn much. He climbed on top of me, resting his head against my chest. I put my hand on his hip, feeling it was pure bone.

"Baby, we need to get you some good food. When was the last time you ate?"

A moment of silence worried me. He finally muttered, "I can't remember."

Those words killed me to hear. It's amazing how, something so broken, is still so beautiful. I will love him beyond the ends of the earth. Shiloh and I both got out of bed and washed up, but we didn't bother to get out of our pajamas.

The second, and I mean like the nanosecond, we walked into the kitchen, Bella rushed over to Shiloh. She hugged his legs, and he was taken off balance a little bit. Luckily I caught him, before anything bad happened. My poor baby was so weak. His physical state didn't keep him from grinning ear to ear when he saw our little girl.

He slowly knelt down to her level. I had to watch him, because I was so worried he was going to hurt himself. As he talked to Bella, I walked around the counter to see if Chris needed any help with breakfast.

"How's he doing?" Chris whispered to me.

"He's really weak, but happy." I replied.

"Good. At least, we're fixed. Josh and Ryan are still pretty screwed up though."

I sighed. "I know, but it's Christmas morning. We should focus on happiness. We'll talk about all that soon, though."

"We have plenty to talk about." Chris said as he glanced over at Ricky, who was going through his phone while he waited on food. "Lots. Sit down, I just finished breakfast."

I went around the counter and over to Shiloh. He grabbed onto my hand and I helped pull him to his feet. He was so light! Bella ran over to the table, and we followed. Shiloh looked at the food like it was a monster and it was going to eat him. I very sweetly ran my hand up and down his back. He glanced over at me with a forced smile.

"So are you guys going to head back to California now?" Ricky asked.

"I, um, I was actually thinking about staying in Scranton." I replied. "You know, getting ourselves a house here. I want to be able to raise Bella somewhere nice and safe. Cali is anything but that. It's a big step though, so, we're going to have to talk about it. For the time being, yeah, we are going to head back for a few weeks. Just because that's where all Shiloh's doctors are, and he could use a checkup."

"I'm okay." He muttered.

"Sweetie, I only say this because I love you, but... um, let's talk about this when we're alone, okay?" I only stopped myself because Bella doesn't need to hear this.

"Okay." Shiloh huffed. "I'm still tired."

"Well, if you can hold out long enough to watch Bella open her presents, we can take a nap right after."

I softly kissed the side of his head. Shiloh smiled beautifully, but he wasn't doing well. I know he is truly happy. However, we can't ignore how sick he is right now.
