Clearly I suck at chapter titles.
Phillip's POV
Everything's... so different.
Yet—it's exactly the same.
None of my stuff has been touched. My room is exactly the way it was left; which is technically not much, since I only just finished college. The only other thing in the house that had changed was the boxes of photos that were taken from the attic, but now those are put back away as well.
But all of the people are different. My siblings, especially Angie, have been very nice recently, basically giving me anything I want. I hate it. Plus, they're also super protective towards me, even though I'm older than them. I should be protecting them! And don't get me started on the adults. Mom and dad have been paranoid whenever it comes to me, and Aunt Angelica won't keep her eyes off me whenever she's around.
Luckily, today was a day where dad was busy writing and mom was taking everyone to Aunt Angelica's house. I convinced her I should stay here. I almost can't believe she agreed.
I decide to go out and get some fresh air, so I walk downtown. It's not too far, and I thought I could go get some things for my siblings. After all, they keep trying to give me things, and I got a bunch of money from Aunt Angelica for, well, surviving, basically.
I walk into a fancy store and start looking for some gloves for Angie and a fancy green hat for Eliza when I bump into a girl trying on a beautful sea-green necklace. She looks at me with shock and then falls over dramatically.
"Oh! I'm so sorry," I say, helping her up while trying to hold in laugher.
Luckily I don't have to for long, becuase she starts to giggle. "You're ok," she replies. She looks at me quizzingly. "Wait... do I know you?"
I look back at her, confused. "I don't think so? I'm Phillip Hamilton," I introduce myself.
"Oh!" she says, blushing a little. "That makes sense. I'm Theodosia Burr. Junior," she adds.
Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh. She's a Burr. Dad is always complaining about that Aaron Burr, though I honestly don't know what's wrong with him. Or this girl. She seems really cool. "A pleasure to meet you," I reply.
"Charming, aren't you?" she teases. Then she seems to realize her mistake. "Oh, sorry, I should go. Bye!" she says quickly, hurrying away.
"Wait!" I shout after her. She stops mid-step and turns around, looking at me with eyes I cannot decipher.
Acckkkkk.
She's so cute.
Wait— what?
"Um... I know our parents kinda hate each other's guts, but do you maybe... wanna... go get some food? Maybe... get to know each other a little? I mean, I'm sure you and your family are not as bad as my father makes you out to be," I say, starting to blush.
She blushes back. "I would like that. But I really do have to go quickly. Maybe we can meet up at the restaurant a couple blocks down, say, before sunset?" she asks.
"That's perfect. I'll see you there!" I say as she walks out of the store.
I go back to searching the isles for items, but I cannot focus on the boxes of gloves or the rows of hat stands.
Because I can't believe it.
I have a date.
With a Burr.
Dad would never approve.
But... does he have to?
