Chapter 2: Meeting Again
Izuku Midoriya
You were walking around, trying to find Present Mic so you could talk to him. Your grandma had told you about the Rescue points given to students, so you wanted to talk to him about letting Midoriya get the points. You had saved Uraraka when he jumped toward the robot and Midoriya with his injury, which probably meant that he hadn't earned any of the Rescue points.
"I wanted to know if I could give him some of my points," you heard Uraraka say from an office.
You walked in and saw her talking to Present Mic.
"I wanted to talk to you about it as well," you joined in," It wasn't my place to intervene, maybe if I hadn't he could have gained some points."
"You two don't need to worry about that he'll get the points he deserves," Mic told you both reassuringly, "You'll see, now get going, and I need to talk to you Miss Shuzenji."
Uraraka nodded and waved goodbye to you. You watched her leave before turning to Mic.
"You shouldn't have intervened (Y/N)," Mic scolded you slightly.
"I know, I'm sorry. I don't know what happened, my body moved on its own, but I wanted to ask that you give him the Rescue points," you pleaded.
"Rescue Points? Did Recovery Girl tell you about them?" he asked.
You nodded but quickly told him that you didn't know until after and that you wouldn't tell a soul.
"I could see that he has great potential. The way he charged in the moment he saw her in trouble. I just... I don't want that to go down the drain because of me," you told him.
"Don't worry, Rescue points take everything into account," Mic assured him.
You smiled with relief and thanked him.
"You grandmother told us that you wanted to be a Hero as well, is that still true?" Mic asked.
"Yes sir, but I knew that without a combat quirk I couldn't pass the Hero test. I know that it's best for everyone if I just heal the injured," you admitted.
"You do have a powerful quirk even if it's not offensive," he mused. "We could probably have a meeting to let you in a special course."
"Really?" you exclaimed.
"A quirk like yours is rare," Mic replied. "How about it?"
"I...I don't know what to say! I'd love to join UA!" you bowed.
"He made it!!" you exclaimed as you looked at the chart.
Midoriya Izuku had passed the entrance exam and made it into class 1-A. You also noticed that your name was on the list, but it had its own section. It said you were both in class 1-A and in the Infirmary. Your schedule was different than most, but you did have 1-A first. You looked at the time and walked to your class.
"Hey! You're the girl with Recovery Girl!" you heard a girl say once you opened the door.
"Hello, I am Iida Tenya-" Iida-kun, the boy with glasses, introduced himself as he walked over.
You were so overwhelmed that you almost didn't notice Midoriya at the door, or a bicolor haired boy looking your way.
"Oh, you're from the entrance exam. My name is Iida Tenya-" Iida-kun introduced himself to someone behind you.
"Yes, I heard. I'm Midoriya," Midoriya replied nervously.
You turned around and smiled at him.
"Midoriya-kun, I'm so glad you're alright! I knew you'd get in!" you exclaimed.
His face turned red and he started to stutter.
"Th-thanks for saving me! It was nice of you to stick up for me in front of Present Mic-san," Midoriya commented.
"How did you know about that?" you asked him.
"Hey! That curly hair! You're the plain-looking one!" Someone said.
The three of you turned around to see Uraraka at the door. Midoriya seemed flustered due to all of the attention he was getting, but he was happy nonetheless. You talked for a few seconds before the 4 of you heard something coming from the ground.
"Go somewhere else if you want to play at being friends," someone said.
You looked down and saw that it was Aizawa-sensei in his sleeping bag. Almost everyone was creeped out by him.
"Hello Aizawa-sensei," you bowed, shocking everyone.
"Shuzenji, you finally realized there's more to a hero, huh?" Aizawa commented before getting out.
"We don't have time to waste, put this on and head to the field," he told everyone as he held up a gym uniform.
"20th place," Midoriya-kun sighed with relief as he saw his name.
The Quirk apprehension test was nerve wracking for everyone, especially for him since he couldn't control his quirk yet.
"Congratulations, Midoriya-kun," you beamed.
"What about you Shuzenji-san?" He asked.
"Oh, I got 24th place," you replied nonchalantly.
"Last place?!" Midoriya-kun exclaimed.
"My quirk isn't good for these kinds of tests and neither is my physical strength," you replied sheepishly.
"But, that means..." Uraraka said.
"By the way I lied about the expulsion," Aizawa-sensei told everyone.
"Midoriya, usually I'd tell you to go to the old lady's office to prepare for tomorrow's more grueling challenges, but your finger looks better," Aizawa sensei told him as he walked by.
"Hmm? Oh yeah, I hadn't even noticed," Midoriya whispered as he wiggled his finger.
You smiled happy to have been able to help him.
Shoto Todoroki
You arrived at school really early so you could walk in with Todoroki-kun. After a few minutes you saw him walking toward you.
"Todoroki-kun!" You exclaimed and waved at him.
"What are you doing?" He asked in his usual monotonous voice.
"I'm waiting for you," you replied.
He continued to walk so you followed him.
"We're both in the same class, isn't that great?" You asked him. "And our last names are pretty close so I might sit somewhere near you."
He remained silent even when you both made it inside the classroom. You sat in the seat in front of Todoroki so you turned around to continue talking to him. There were very few people in the class, so you didn't know if you were talking too loud or not. Eventually, more kids came in and filled the seats.
"Todoroki-kun, how do you feel about being here?" You asked.
He seemed to be thinking about what to answer.
"It's a necessity in order for me to become the Number 1 hero," he replied.
"You're so cool," you grinned.
He looked toward the door and quickly stood up. You followed his gaze and saw that he was looking at a girl who had just come in.
"Angle-san," he whispered.
His face was neutral but his eyes were filled with a sort of longing, and happiness.
"Huh? Do you know her?" You asked him.
He continued to look at her until she turned to the green haired boy. Todoroki sat down and looked at his desk. Before you could ask him what was wrong the teacher came in.
"Will we really get expelled if we get last place?" you asked Shoto.
"Who knows. Although, it does seem unlikely that they would give up on someone after only the first day," he replied.
Every so often he would look at the girl from before.
"True, do your best! I'm rooting for you
Todoroki-kun!" you exclaimed and gave him a thumbs up.
"You too," he simply replied after a few seconds.
The tests began and to say you were terrible was an understatement. You were only 5th to last because you had used your Earth Manipulation quirk to propel you forward in the speed trial. Now it was time to throw the ball.
Before it was your turn, Midoriya Izuku was up. At first he threw it, but nothing special happened because Mr. Aizawa, or Eraserhead, stopped it. After an exchange of words Aizawa-sensei released him and let him go again.
Midoriya-kun seemed to have many thoughts running through his mind before he threw the ball. It flew with such extreme power that you actually felt the air pushing away from him!
"See Aizawa-sensei, I'm still standing," he proclaimed.
You did, however, notice that his finger had turned purple. Another girl from the class just appeared beside him and looked at his finger. Everyone was surprised except Bakugo who looked angry and tried to fight Midoriya.
"I wonder what her quirk is," you mumbled and looked at Todoroki.
His eyes were wide and his mouth was slightly agape.
"It is you, Angel-san," you heard him whisper again.
You looked back at the group and noticed that Aizawa-sensei had restrained Bakugo, meaning that it was your turn.
Your Earth quirk wouldn't help, but the air one would, however it was unstable. You were ready to fail the test until you remembered that Midoriya, despite having a quirk he couldn't control, used it anyway in a way that allowed him not to injure himself completely like how you heard he had during the Entrance Exam.
"(L/N), hurry it up," Aizawa told you.
"Y-yes sir!" you responded.
You breathed in and got ready to throw the ball.
'Focus, use the air to propel the ball, even just a little,' you thought to yourself.
"Hiya!" you exclaimed as you threw the ball.
You managed to send a stream of air from the palm of your hand, which propelled the ball. You watched as it flew farther away than you had ever thrown.
You turned to Aizawa to see what your score was.
"507.6," he said and showed it to everyone.
"Yes!" you exclaimed.
"Wow! That was amazing!" you heard others cheer.
"But I thought her quirk had to do with the ground?" Someone asked aloud.
Your score wasn't the best, but it was definitely the top 5 for that section.
"Todoroki-kun, did you see?" you asked him happily as you ran towards him.
"What was that?" he asked.
"After seeing Midoriya, it gave me a bit of confidence to use my quirk," you admitted.
"Your quirk?" He asked.
After all of the tests were over, you were able to see the scores. You ended up in 15th place, which wasn't the best, but out of 24 it was okay.
"Todoroki-kun! Wait for me!" you exclaimed as you ran out of the classroom.
It was time for everyone to head on home, but you didn't want to go alone. Shoto stopped in his tracks so you took the chance to run to his side.
"What is it?" he asked you.
"We should walk home together," you suggested.
"Why?" he asked.
"Because... that's what friends do, isn't it?" you asked unsure.
"I guess," he replied.
You walked together in a sort of awkward, yet comfortable, silence.
"You know, I've never had a friend before, so if you could give me some pointers," you told him.
"I'm not too experienced either," he admitted."I've only had one friend."
"Then we can both figure out this friend thing together," you smiled at him.
Katsuki Bakugou
"I can't believe this is only my first day and I've already got a person that hates me," you sighed frustrated.
You played music loudly on your boombox- pretty old school, huh?- while balancing yourself on a railing. You decided to walk around the city, because you were not in the mood to face your mom. Lying to her was not an option. You shuddered at the thought of what she would do to you and Bakugou if she found out you two had "fought" making you use your quirk. Not to mention what she'd think of poor Izuku for not defending himself.
You noticed some commotion coming from deeper in the city, so you decided to check it out. At first, you were in no hurry since you thought the Heroes would handle it, but you picked up the pace once you saw the fire and smoke. Once you made it there, you saw a small crowd just outside of the place where the fires were coming from.
"Everyone, stand back," you heard one of the Pro-Heroes tell the citizens.
You moved around so you could see better when you accidentally bumped into someone and fell.
"I'm sorry!" they quickly apologized and helped you up.
As soon as you heard their voice, you knew that it was Izuku.
"It's fine, but what's going on?" you asked him.
"A-A Sludge monster too-took Kaachan," he replied in a panic.
"Bakugou?" you repeated in surprise.
You turned back to the monster in an attempt to try to see him.
"This is all my fault," he told himself in shame.
"I'm sure that's not true. But why aren't the Heroes doing anything?" you asked him.
"They don't have the quirks to help," he replied.
You looked at Izuku before turning back towards the Sludge Monster. You could see Bakugou was fighting hard to not let the Villain overtake him. However, you could also see a panic in his eyes. You absentmindedly turned your music all the way up and before you knew it, both you and Izuku ran to him. One of the Pros tried to stop you, but you sang a random lullaby, which effectively made him and some people in the crowd fall asleep.
Then, Midoriya threw his backpack at the monster so you did the same with your boombox.
"What are you two doing here!?" Bakugo demanded.
"You looked like you needed help," Midoriya replied, scared, while he clawed at the monster.
"Hold on!" you told him once you managed to grab Bakugo's hand.
With your free hand you turned your music off. Then, you sang the song that was just on.
"What do you think you're doing?" the monster asked tauntingly, but started to feel drowsy.
You noticed that Izuku's and Bakugo's eyelids were starting to shut so you quickly licked both of their cheeks. You hated that it was the only way for you to wake them up quickly, but it had to be done. The Villain's body seemed to have gone limp, but you still couldn't pull Katsuki out.
"Izuku! Help me!" you asked him.
Midoriya got over his drowsiness and sprung to action. You both tried to pull Bakugo out, but he was still out of control and made explosions everywhere.
"I don't need you weaklings' help!" He bellowed.
Then, All Might appeared out of nowhere and took the villain out.
After all of the fires were put out and everyone was checked for injuries the Pros made sure to give their piece on the subject. They praised Katsuki for his strong Quirk, lectured Midoriya for his reckless behavior, and ignored you aside for a "Be careful next time". It was fine though, because they were just doing as you had asked them to do. After they were done you walked over to Katsuki.
"I don't want your pity!" Katsuki immediately bellowed once he saw you coming over. "I had it all under control!"
"I know, I'm sure you would have gotten out in no time," you replied with a sigh.
"Huh?" he questioned in confusion. "So why did you two intervene!?"
"You looked like you were scared, but I must have misinterpreted it," you told him and sheepishly rubbed the back of your neck.
"You got that right!" he ordered before turning his back to leave. "And don't lick me again!"
"I just wanted to say that I admire how you held out. I'm not sure I would have been able to resist that long," you told him. "But that wasn't because of your Quirk, it was because of your will to not give up."
"Tsk. What do you know?" he asked angrily.
"Don't listen, that's fine by me, but I really do wish we could be friends," you mused while looking at Izuku.
He was worried about Katsuki, no matter how mean he had been to him, Izuku viewed Katsuki as a friend.
You turned back to Katsuki and said," I know that you feel that no one in school is actually worthy of competing against you, and honestly, at the risk of increasing your ego, you're right. But you seem to have forgotten that there are more people than just those at your school. So from now on, I'll compete against you. You may not think that my Quirk is "flashy", but if you think I'm so weak, try and stay awake when I use it."
"Don't declare a war you know you'll lose," he grunted but smirked with pride.
"Don't accept a challenge you know you've underestimated," you replied back.
Fumikage Tokoyami
"He did it again didn't he?" your friend asked angrily.
You wondered how she was able to tell so easily. You could hear some scratching in the background meaning that she let her claws out.
"He didn't mean to, he just gets frustrated sometimes," you tried to reason.
"Yeah, right," your shadow quietly scoffed from beside you.
"This has happened 3 times already!" your friend screeched so loud you had to put the phone away from your ear.
"If he weren't important to my grandpa's boss, I would've given him a piece of my mind," she mumbled.
"They were all accidents," you replied ignoring her last comment.
"Those accidents are becoming more frequent," your shadow retorted.
"What did he do this time?" (F/N) asked frustrated.
"He grabbed my wrist," you replied and looked down.
The skin around your wrist was gone in an unusual pattern, showing the red nerves underneath, but you wouldn't dare touch it. Your brother would often grab you out of frustration, but he had always been careful not to use all of his fingers. However, he's become more frustrated over his new plan to get rid of All Might, making him careless with you.
You looked into your plastic bag, unsure of how you would treat your wrist seeing as you were left-handed. Nevertheless, you would rather he hurt you than himself as he would often scratch his neck in frustration. You were so lost in thought that you didn't hear your friend calling you or see that you were about to bump into someone.
"Ow!" you exclaimed as you fell down.
"Are you okay?" the person you bumped into asked. You looked up and saw that it was none other than Tokoyami.
"Yeah, funny bumping into you again," you smiled at him. He helped you up and out came Dark Shadow.
"(Y/N)! You're finally back!" he exclaimed and hugged you and your shadow.
"Be careful, her wrist is hurt," your shadow informed him.
"Let me see," Tomoyami said.
"It's really nothing, I'll take care of it," you replied nervously and hid your wrist.
Dark Shadow wouldn't stop pestering you about it so you eventually had to show them. Fumikage tried to send you to a hospital, but you told him that you couldn't afford to go. Instead, you asked if he could apply the alcohol and bandages. While he did that the two of you started to talk.
"How's your training for UA going?" you asked him.
"Fine, but if you don't mind me asking, how did this happen exactly? It doesn't look like a burn or cut," he commented.
"It was all thanks to our selfish brother!" you shadow replied.
"No! It was an accident, really. He was angry and his quirk must have slipped his mind. He grabbed my wrist and this happened " you tried to tell him.
"That's not cool," Dark Shadow said with his arms crossed.
"He does care about me, and even if he didn't, I care about him, so it doesn't matter," you quietly told them.
Then a portal popped up out of nowhere, right beside you.
"That's our cue. I hope we get to see you guys again sometime," you said as you waved goodbye.
Your shadow gave them peace signs before turning back into a normal shadow. You had completely forgotten that your friend was on the other line and had overheard everything, something you would later regret.
Iida Tenya
"Momo, please come with me," you begged your cousin.
"You know exercise will only interfere with my quirk," she responded calmly. "Besides, I should be studying instead."
"I know, you use the lipids in your body to create things but you need to understand them and if you don't study you won't get into UA," you replied begrudgingly.
She notices your frown, and glances down at her book. She knew you also wanted to get into UA, only because she wanted to. Everytime she wanted to do something you would go along, so with that in mind she closed her book and turned around.
"Alright, where do you want to go?" she asked.
A giant smile appeared on your face as you squealed and hugged her tightly.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" you repeated before dragging her out of her room and outside her house.
"(Y/N), my clothes are not appropriate for this," Momo told you.
"It's not like we're running. This is just a casual stride through the park," you told her.
"Besides, what could you have worn that's more appropriate?"
"I guess it is pretty nice out," she admitted.
She was wearing a sundress while you wore sweatpants and a T-shirt.
"I guess I didn't really think this through," you thought as you looked at your attire.
It was nice but nothing that would catch someone's attention.
This was your favorite park for many reasons, but the newest one was the guy from before. You would never admit it but you started to go out on runs in hopes of bumping into him once more. Last week you saw him, but you couldn't bring yourself to approach him. That's where Momo comes in, if you see him again it would be no trouble since she would be there to help you out.
"So how are your studies?" She asked.
"Hmm? Oh, they're fine I guess. I'm pretty confident with the material but I don't know if I'll be able to pass the exam," you replied.
"Don't be silly, you're smart. I promise you'll get in," she replied.
You smiled and hooked your arm in her's. You continued to talk until someone running by hit your shoulder.
"My sincerest apologies! I should have been a more attentive runner," the person quickly apologized.
"You," you said once you saw him.
"Tenya-kun?" Momo said.
You looked between the two of them.
"Yaoyorozu-san, it's very nice to see you again," he greeted her with a bow.
"You too, how's your family? I heard your sister's shop is quite popular," she replied.
"Yes, she's always working despite being so young. She wants to attend UA's business course," he replied.
You felt like a third wheel as you just listened to their conversation.
"Really? (Y/N) is planning on attending as well," Momo said and looked at you.
"Oh, please excuse my rudeness! I am Tenya Iida, pleased to meet you," he bowed.
"I'm (L/N), (Y/N). We've actually met before," you replied and gave a small bow.
"Of course, I knew I recognized you from a few weeks ago," he replied.
"So, should I call you Tenya-kun, or can I still call you Hero?" you teased.
"I'm not— I can assure you— I just—," he began to stutter from your comment.
"Hero? What happened?" Momo asked curiously.
"He saved me from being run over by a bus," you told her.
"Really?!" She asked, surprised. "When did that happen?"
"The day my parents told me I'd be moving in with you guys," you replied quietly. "I was running, and I didn't notice the bus."
She had been so excited to have you over that you didn't want to seem ungrateful by telling her how you ran off crying. In retrospect, you had overreacted. Tenya furrowed his eyebrows, likely wondering why you didn't mention that you were crying.
"I tried to explain that I only did what any other person would have done," Tenya told Momo.
"And I tried to explain that it doesn't matter what could have happened, it matters what did happen. And what did happen is that he saved me, so from now on he is my hero," you replied.
"Tenya-kun, thank you so much. I just know you'll get into the hero course at UA," she praised him.
"I'm not a real hero like my brother," he replied sheepishly.
Before you could praise him more his watch started beeping.
"How careless of me, I forgot to pause my time. Please don't think of me as rude but I must get going," he apologized and bowed.
"Not at all Iida-kun," Momo replied.
"I hope we'll see each other again, Hero-kun," you added and waved goodbye.
After he left you asked how Momo knew him.
"Our parents got invited to a lot of the same meetings, so being two of the few children who attended, we spent a lot of time together," she replied.
"Oohh, well, let's go home," you told her.
"I thought you wanted to walk around," she responded.
"Yeah, but for some reason I'm really tired," you replied.
"I'll make sure to leave you two alone next time," Momo commented.
"As usual, you can see right through me," you sighed and chuckled.
"Why didn't you mention him before?" She asked.
"It's kind of embarrassing," you replied sheepishly.
"Iida-kun is amazing. I owe him one for saving one of my favorite cousins," she replied.
"Yeah, he's my hero," you replied. "Wait a minute 'one of'?"
Momo giggled but didn't say anything.
"Come on, who am I tied with?" You pouted.
