Charlie.
Freddie's P.O.V.
Brian's comment was hurtful. Is that really how he saw me? I guess he wasn't too wrong...but I wasn't like that anymore. Hadn't he noticed?
"Yeah well. I'm not like that anymore." I avoided looking at him and walked straight out.
"Oh, Fred?! Come on, I didn't mean it like that!" He called after me.
It was too late. And he did mean it.
"Freddie?! Phone!" Roger suddenly called from downstairs, I took a U-turn and ran down the stairs to the awaiting blonde holding out the phone to me.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Good morning, is that Mr Bulsara?" A woman said on the other end.
I cringed a little, it had been a long time since somebody had used my real surname.
"Yes, yes that's me." I replied.
"I have wonderful news. We have somebody here who wishes to rent out your house. He agrees to all contract regulations but requires to move in immediately. If you wish to accept you will need to drop the keys off for him at noon."
"You're joking? Thats bloody brilliant! I accept!" I was giddy, finally, after Brian and Roger had managed to find tenants to rent out their houses so quickly, somebody finally wanted mine. And it would make the money situation a little easier too.
"Fantastic, I'll pass on the details. Have a good day." The woman said.
"You too, darling, thank you." I hung up and rushed into the living room.
"Guess whose a fucking landlord now." I pointed at myself in a rather camp motion flailing my arms about.
"Somebody wants your house?!" Roger squeaked excitedly.
"You bet they do, about time aswell!" I searched through a kitchen cupboard for my old house keys.
"That's great!" John joined in.
"I'm going to have to pop out, I have to drop they keys off at 12 and it's bloody 11:30 now...they require to move in immediately." I grinned. "I won't be long!" I grabbed my black and white floral patterned jacket.
"Do you want a lift?!" John shouted after me.
"No it's okay! I'll walk!" I called back and shut the door behind me. I could have driven myself but it was only a short distance. Besides, I was absolutely shit behind the wheel.
The cool air was nice and the streets were empty, it gave me chance to clear my head. It was so crowded with thoughts lately, about our music, getting the album finished, writing new stuff, Roger and John...Brian.
I tried to be nice this morning. And he just shoved it all back in my face. For crying out loud, I gave him my tea. I can't believe he could say such a thing.
I'm different now and I changed for him yet he still thinks I'm some kind of slut. Thanks a lot Brian. I'll fucking show you.
I don't know why I waste my energy on him sometimes.
Soon I was walking up to my old front door and I let myself in. The tenant hadn't arrived yet.
I felt a weird sense of nostalgia already, I'd only moved out two days ago...the place felt seriously empty...but no more empty as when I lived here and the place was full of my personal things. I was so happy to be out of this house and living with my boys.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and I rushed over to open it, eager to meet the person who was going to rent out my old house.
I swung open the door, all smiles, I was met by a man of a similar age to me, late twenties...early thirties...
I grinned at him, "Hello there." I put my hand out for him to shake.
I could have sworn he was a statue as he stared up at me.
"F-Freddie...Mercury...?" He eventually stuttered.
Oh shit.
I faked a cheesy smile and grabbed his hand shaking it, "Yes, pleased to meet you. Come, let me show you around." I encouraged him into the house and closed the door behind the starstruck boy.
He was staring at me. It was awkward. Did I need to make some kind of joke to prove I was a real person?
"You look like you've seen a ghost!" I giggled.
His eyes thankfully moved and he shook his head a little, he rushed towards me with his hand out, "I'm terribly sorry, Mr Mercury, I'm Charlie. I think I was taken by surprise there..." he rushed, he was terribly nervous as he looked at me, he was a few inches smaller than I was...
"Don't worry about it, Charlie. I'm sorry I shocked you." I smiled and received a warm one back. He had what looked like a terribly heavy rucksack on his back, "Let me take your bag." I offered.
He slipped it off and I took it off him, "Bloodyhell. What you got in here?!" I joked as I staggered with the weight of his bag.
He chuckled, "Only everything that I own."
Everything? He didn't have a lot...
"After you." I motioned for him to start going up the stairs which is where I would start my tour.
He was sweet. In fact...he was rather cute. I took a cheeky glance at his arse as I climbed the stairs behind him, it was very peachy.
We entered what used to be my bedroom and I heaved his bag onto the bed.
"So...this is the master bedroom. There's a nice view of the garden. And then across the hallway is the bathroom, a shower and a bath." He followed me and I flung open the door to it. "Then we have the spare bedroom...unless you'll be having someone stay with you?" I asked out of interest.
"Oh, no. I'm...I'm on my own." He said shyly.
"Now, down the stairs." I started as he scuttled behind. "This is the living room, I'll have you know I've written some of our best songs in this room..." I laughed and I just received another shocked stare, I hurriedly moved along, "And here's the kitchen." I finished.
"It's perfect. I love it." He beamed.
"And here..." I held up the house keys in front of his innocent little face, his dark green eyes sparkled, "...are your keys." I placed them in his hand.
"Wow. Thank you, Mr Mercury!"
"Oh, darling please. Call me Freddie." He needed relaxing.
"Okay." He giggled.
"So, if you don't have any questions I'll leave you to get settled in." I smiled.
"I think I'm alright." He nodded.
"I'll write down my new phone number and you call me if anything goes wrong or you need anything, okay?" I scribbled down the number.
I headed towards the door.
"Umm. Freddie?" He chirped up, sounding very shy indeed.
"Yes, dear?"
"Bit of umm...of a random question really but...but where are th-the best...gay bars...around here?"
I was shocked. Shocked that he had just met me, was utterly starstruck in front of me and had the audacity to ask me this question? Not that I didn't mind...at all. The whole world almost knew I was into men, I refused to hide it from the public. So I wasn't offended that he knew. I was just shocked that he must be gay too, then?
"Oh, blimey. Umm, Pulse is bloody brilliant. Not far from here, 20 minutes maybe, a bit further on is The Mill. Brace yourself for that place." I winked.
His face was turning crimson and I thought it was my cue to leave.
"I'll pop in tomorrow to see how you're doing. Lovely to meet you, Charlie."
"Thanks...Freddie. See you later." He nodded, smiling.
I left, closing the door behind me, a little flabbergasted by what had just happened.
A rather attractive...possibly gay man just moved in to my old house?
Now my head is even more confused.
