53. Confrontation
Yoongi watched Hobi and Jimin as they quickly disappeared out of the station to go check out the scene outside.
'Today seems to be the day we get hit by cars,' thought Yoongi morbidly, giving the cat equivalent of a smirk as his chest hurt again.
With Hobi outside, Yoongi began to wonder if Yoongles was sitting by himself in the now chaotic station. Looking up at Seokjin, Yoongi saw that his gaze was focused on the front door much like Namjoon's. Since neither of them were looking, he delicately hopped down off Seokjin's lap and moved to disappear amongst the legs of the people that seemed to be multiplying to watch what was going on outside. By the time Seokjin realized that Yoongi had hopped off his lap, he had lost sight of him.
"Namjoon, I lost Yoongi," said Seokjin as he sprung to his feet, casting his gaze about frantically.
"What do you mean you lost Yoongi?!" asked Namjoon. "Wasn't he just sitting on your lap?"
Yoongi could clearly hear the two of them bicker back and forth about where he had run off to since he wasn't all that far away. Yoongi knew that he shouldn't run off on them again, but he was worried about Yoongles. Careful to navigate his way through people so as not to hurt his cat body anymore, he made his way deeper into the police station to see if he could find where Yoongles was.
He eventually made it to the area where Yoongles was still sitting. Due to all the commotion going on, an officer had been tasked with putting Yoongles into a holding cell. Yoongi was just in time to watch the officer yank Yoongles up from the chair with a hand under his arm to guide him. Yoongi quickly followed after them, managing to slip into the holding cell undetected right before the door shut.
Yoongles didn't notice him at first, sinking down onto the hard cot pressed up against the white brick wall. Yoongi watched as Yoongles kept his head hung down low so that his eyes could linger on the handcuffs still on his wrists. As Yoongi began to make his way over to Yoongles, Yoongles looked over at him. Yoongi had never seen such a look of haunting sadness in all his life.
Yoongi moved a paw to rest on one of Yoongles' feet since he was in too much pain to jump up on him. A tear or two tripped free from Yoongles' eyes, falling off his face and onto Yoongi's fur. Yoongi closed his eyes, moving to press the top of his head into Yoongles' shin with a small purr of comfort.
'It'll be okay,' thought Yoongi as he kept his eyes shut. 'It wasn't your fault.'
When Yoongi opened his eyes again, he was shocked to see that he was back in his own body, staring down at the cat below him who was now lying on its side on the floor. The cat looked dead.
"No, no, no," mumbled Yoongi as he shifted down off the cot and onto his knees beside the cat.
Even with his hands cuffed, Yoongi was able to slip his arms underneath the cat to pick it up. He had never been a pet person but having traded souls with Yoongles the cat seemed to have changed that for him. Yoongi moved towards the door with Yoongles in his arms, kicking at it with his foot.
"Hey! Is anyone out there?! You need to get me help now!"

To say she was a mess was an understatement. If it wasn't for Mrs. Jeon, Laylin was sure that she would have shattered into a million pieces by now. She stood in the bustling waiting room of the local hospital as the secretary seemed to painstakingly look up the requested information at the speed of a sloth. Mrs. Jeon was just as upset as her, but remained a steady force as she reached out to place a hand gently on Laylin's back.
"They are still in surgery," said the secretary finally as she looked up from the computer in front of her. "We'll inform you of the outcome as soon as we're able to."
Laylin felt her heart clench, but she knew there was nothing more that could be done at the moment. She still couldn't wrap her head around the fact that Jungkook and Taehyung had been mowed down by a vehicle. She wandered in a daze towards one of the empty waiting room chairs, sinking down into it as she was reminded of when she had been here the last time and thought she had lost Jungkook in a car accident. The tears burned in her eyes as she looked down at her hands.
"They'll be okay," said Mrs. Jeon as she sat down beside Laylin and rubbed her back soothingly.
"How can you be so calm?" asked Laylin, "So sure?"
"Because I know my boy. He is a fighter, and I'm sure his older brother is just like him."
Laylin nodded. Jungkook had promised they'd be back. He couldn't break that promise to her. Surely he had to hold on, especially after everything they had gone through.
Laylin sat back as she took a look around the waiting room. Her eyes scanned the other people waiting to hear on outcomes of their loved ones or waiting to be admitted themselves. Her scanning froze though when her eyes landed on Taehyung's mother. Anger coursed through her veins as she was quickly propelled out of her seat, walking across the room to stand in front of her. Mrs. Kim - who had been looking at her phone before Laylin had stomped over - looked up at her with a confused face.
"What are you doing here?" asked Laylin.
"Who are you?" asked Mrs. Kim, clearly refusing to answer Laylin's question.
"Someone that actually has a heart," snapped Laylin.
Mrs. Kim didn't say anything as she studied the angry, lime-green haired woman in front of her. It was then that a realization came to Mrs. Kim.
'Could this possibly be the mystery woman that Taehyung was caught kissing in those photos?' thought Mrs. Kim.
"You are dating my son," said Mrs. Kim flatly as she looked at Laylin with a passive face, doing a quick scan of her up and down with her eyes.
Laylin felt her cheeks flame up. She wasn't sure whether to admit to it or not. Thankfully she was saved from a decision either way by Mrs. Jeon coming over to stand beside her.
"Laylin, is something wrong?" asked Mrs. Jeon.
Mrs. Kim's gaze went from Laylin to her. She vaguely recalled the woman who she had seen working at the fish restaurant the day she purposefully left Jungkook behind as if it was a foggy dream. She must have been the one to take her abandoned son in.
"I'm fine," said Laylin to Mrs. Jeon before re-fixing her gaze onto Mrs. Kim. "You need to leave them alone. You have caused them both enough pain to last a lifetime."
"I don't know who you are to think you can talk to me like that just because you kissed my son -"
"I love your son!" shouted Laylin. "I kissed him because I actually love him unlike you!"
"Laylin..." said Mrs. Jeon slowly as she moved to grab her by the arm as the other people in the waiting room all started to look their way.
"You wouldn't know what love was even if Cupid intervened!" continued Laylin. "Those boys of yours...they deserve the world from you and you treated them like they were disposable."
Mrs. Kim opened her mouth to try to make some sort of reply when a male nurse suddenly came over to them. Looking at his slightly timid stance, Laylin figured that he had gotten the short end of the stick and was forced to come over and break up the fight before it got any worse.
"I'm sorry," Laylin said to the nurse and not to Mrs. Kim. "I'll go back and sit down."
The nurse just nodded his head as Laylin walked back over to the opposite side of the room again to sit back down with Mrs. Jeon and wait. Laylin was grateful that Mrs. Jeon didn't try to talk to her about what had happened at all. She just let the matter drop. It felt like an eternity before a doctor came out to look for the family of Jungkook and Taehyung. Laylin had to swallow her anger when she watched Mrs. Kim rise from her seat as well and walk over to the doctor with them.
"How are they?" asked Laylin, unable to wait for the doctor to answer on his own.
He wore a passive look on his face so it was hard to tell at first what the verdict was.
"They are stable for now, but both of them are in a coma," said the doctor, "And it's too soon to tell whether they will remain that way or not."
