50. We Are Family
Taehyung stood in the doorway as he looked at Mrs. Jeon standing there. It was obvious that she had dropped everything to get over to Laylin and Jungkook's apartment as soon as possible. She stepped through the open doorway without waiting to be told to enter, cupping Taehyung's face in her hands as she searched his expression with a worried look.
"What's wrong? Are you okay, Jungkook?"
Jungkook stood up from the couch, still in a state of shock at seeing his mother there. He looked with teary eyes from her to Laylin who stood by the kitchen doorway. Of course, Laylin had called her. After what he had been through, he needed her love. Jungkook fixed Laylin with a small smile which she reflected back before nodding her head towards where his mom was in the doorway.
"I'm...I'm fine," said Taehyung as Jungkook's mother studied his face closely.
Taehyung gently reached up his hands to grab her wrists, bringing her grip away from his face as she looked at him confused. Taehyung turned his head to look at Jungkook, holding out a hand towards him so he'd come over to stand beside him. By then, there were tears silently and softly tracking down Jungkook's face.
Jungkook's mother took this pause to look at Jungkook in Taehyung's body. She frowned when she saw the tears tracking down his face, remembering the last time she had met him and how upset he had been that time too.
"Your son is the one that needs you right now," said Taehyung as Jungkook's mother looked back at him even more confused than she was already.
"What do you mean?"
"Mom..." said Jungkook, unable to hold himself back anymore; the word practically bubbled up out of him with the tears.
Her eyes widened when Jungkook moved forward to hug her tightly. She moved her arms to hug him back, rubbing his back as she looked at Taehyung who was giving her a soft smile.
"We have some explaining to do," said Taehyung. "Can you please come in?"

Even though Yoongles had been human for a couple of days now, he still didn't understand humans any more than he did before. He especially didn't understand this woman that was adamantly and angrily talking to him through the closed window.
He furrowed his brows as he looked at her. The window was garbling her words so he couldn't make much of them out. He leaned his head closer to the window as if that would help him in understanding her, but it just left him more confused. She sounded irritated and angry at him, and he couldn't understand why she would be. He was sitting in the car and hadn't even bothered her at all.
Yoongles found himself grateful when he saw Jimin and Hobi behind her with Yoongi in their arms. Maybe they would be able to save him.
Yoongi saw Mrs. Kim immediately when the three of them had rounded the corner. Before all this, she had just been someone that employed him to do his job. Now he could understand just what a wicked woman she was and it - in turn - made him a henchman. He was no one's henchman.
Jumping down out of Jimin's unsuspecting arms, Yoongi moved to get on the ground right beside her feet. He didn't appreciate the way she was talking and trying to boss Yoongles around. Yoongi gritted his teeth, arching his back as a hiss passed his lips.
He watched as she turned her head down to face him with a look of disgust on his face which just ticked him off even more.
All his life he had done whatever it took to get the job done, not caring about making any friends along the way. After having met the others though, they weren't just friends to him. He couldn't help but to think of them as his family and right now that family had been hurt by this woman. He wouldn't stand for it anymore.
It was as he took a step forward to try to hiss at her to back off again that he became up close and personal with those heels she never seemed to take off.

Mrs. Jeon sat in the middle of the couch as she looked from Taehyung to Jungkook and then across the way to Laylin who was seated on the coffee table. Her eyes took in their bright, theatrical hair as her mind tried to digest the even more theatrical story she had just heard. They had told her everything, but it didn't make any sort of sense.
"Jungkook," she said as she turned to look at the blue-haired boy beside her. The tears that filled those unfamiliar eyes pained her heart. She reached out a hand to catch the tears that were falling from his eyes.
The midnight talk at the table at her place made sense now along with the reason why he had suddenly appeared. The truth still didn't make sense, but her boy had never had a reason to lie to her and she knew that he wouldn't start now. Even if it was absolutely ridiculous, it had to be true.
"I'm sorry we didn't tell you before," said Jungkook as his mother brushed the tears away.
"Stop apologizing. This is something that you no doubt thought I wouldn't believe," she said. "It is okay though. I believe you."
"You do?"
She nodded with a soft smile still on her lips as she turned to look at a more familiar face with an unfamiliar soul inside it.
"So you're Taehyung, Jungkook's older brother?"
"I am," he said.
"I'm sorry that you had such a horrible life. I wish I had been able to find you and your mother sooner. Maybe I could have saved you too."
A thin smile came upon Taehyung's face. He allowed himself to wonder what would have happened if Jungkook's mother had found him and his mother sooner. He doubted that she would have been able to save him from his parents, but the thought was nice. It was nice to feel that he was wanted as a person.
"Thank you for saying that. It means a lot," he said as Mrs. Jeon reached out to grab his hand.
"Well - even if it got delayed - you are family, and I will think of you as my son too if you will let me. Every boy needs a mother's love."
Even though Taehyung hadn't been close to tears yet, he was now. He couldn't imagine what that would feel like, but it didn't mean he didn't want it. He had always wanted his mother's love. Mrs. Jeon shifted so that she could wrap one arm about Taehyung and one arm about Jungkook to bring them in for a much-needed hug.
"You come join in too, Laylin," said Mrs. Jeon as she looked over at her. "You know you're family too."
Laylin smiled as she got up, moving to join the hug so that the four of them were creating their own little safety bubble for the time being; a safety bubble without nasty vindictive parents with an agenda. When they eventually broke from the hug, it was because Taehyung's phone was ringing. Taehyung was going to let it go to voicemail, but then it rang again. And then again. Apologizing, he pulled away from the hug to check the display screen. When he saw it was Jimin, he answered.
"Jimin, what's going on?"
Jungkook reluctantly pulled back from the hug when he saw the frown settling on Taehyung's once smiling face. By the time Taehyung hung up, he was standing quickly to his feet.
"What's going on, Taehyung?" asked Jungkook, no longer keeping up the guise of the name calling.
"Jimin called. They are at the police station right now. Yoongles attacked my mother."
"He what?!" asked Jungkook shocked, moving to stand up.
"Who's Yoongles?" asked Mrs. Jeon.
"It's another long story," said Laylin to her as Jungkook walked over to Taehyung.
"Why did Yoongles do that?" asked Jungkook.
"Because she hurt Yoongi with her heels," said Taehyung as he walked towards the door to put on his shoes. "She apparently kicked him into the street. Jimin said that Yoongi is injured pretty badly and that's what set Yoongles off. I'm sorry, but I need to go see them."
"I'm coming with you to the station," insisted Jungkook as he slipped on his shoes. "If your mother is there, you aren't facing her alone."
Taehyung nodded as Jungkook turned his head to look at Laylin and his mother.
"We'll be right back."
Laylin locked her eyes with Jungkook, giving him a small smile and an understanding nod of her head. As Jungkook and Taehyung moved to leave the apartment together and get in a cab, the man that Mrs. Kim had hired was parked right outside. It had been easy for him to spot the two of them with their wild hair. He stayed seated in the slouched position he was in for a moment longer before shifting his car into drive to follow their cab. He was ready for a pay day.
