48. A Disgusting Mess

"I haven't seen you eat this much in a while."

Laylin stood across from Jungkook as he sat at the island in the kitchen. She had barely gotten home from work when he had more or less stormed into the apartment with Taehyung in tow. He began to crumble apart as he raided her fridge, littering the whole kitchen island with an assortment of random food she had laying around. He hadn't said much of anything as he then proceeded to plop down at the island and make himself one of the most disgusting sandwiches known to man. Laylin watched as Jungkook took another bite of the sloppy sandwich; potato chips and pickles coated in mayo slipping out. He caught them with his fingers to try to shove them back in.

Laylin sighed as she looked away from him to Taehyung who stood nearby. He was standing in the kitchen doorway but wasn't saying anything as he let Jungkook have his way with his grief eating.

"So what happened exactly?" asked Laylin tentatively as she looked at Taehyung.

"We confronted my parents," said Taehyung , "And got confirmation of the truth. Jungkook was basically born as a back-up plan incase I failed."

"People like that don't deserve to have kids," said Jungkook in a garbled fashion around the bite of sandwich in his mouth. "They should have their reproductive rights taken from them!"

Taehyung sighed as he looked at Jungkook pigging out in his body. It was obvious that when Jungkook was in a situation of extreme grief, he ate. He moved to take a seat beside him at the island as he finished the revolting sandwich with tears in his eyes. Now that Jungkook didn't have to be strong anymore, it was obvious that the pain had made Jungkook a victim.

"I mean, why would you just have a kid to be an insurance policy incase the other one was a failure? Would you have been dumped at the fish restaurant or somewhere else if you had failed?" asked Jungkook.

"I don't know the answer to that question, Kookie," Taehyung said as he reached out a hand. He placed it on the back of Jungkook's head and began to run his fingers through his hair in an attempt to comfort him. Taehyung's eyes watched the tears track down Jungkook's crumby cheeks.

"Did you just call me Kookie?" Jungkook asked as he turned his watery eyes to look at Taehyung as he gave him a thin smile.

"Do you not like it?" asked Taehyung.

"No...no, it's just...different," said Jungkook with a weak smile back. "Having a brother in general is different."

"A good different too," added Taehyung quickly as he moved both his hands so they were hidden in his sleeves before brushing away Jungkook's tears.

Laylin watched the two of them interact as they sat at the kitchen island. It was hard enough to believe that her favorite idol and best friend switched bodies, but the fact that they were brothers was even more shocking. She saw that Taehyung's words and comforting gestures were helping Jungkook, but she knew what would help him even more.

"Taehyung, may I speak with you for a moment?" asked Laylin.

Taehyung turned his head in her direction before nodding, gently moving to stand up. Laylin walked down the hall with him until they were standing outside Jungkook's room where they were out of earshot of Jungkook.

"What's up?" asked Taehyung as he stopped in front of her.

"Can I have your permission to do something?"

Laylin realized after she asked the question that she should have been more specific. It was obvious that Taehyung thought she meant something else since he knew they had shared a kiss or two with Jungkook in his body.

"Laylin, I mean if you..."

Laylin's cheeks felt on fire as she shook her head, silencing Taehyung before any more words came out.

"Oh no! That's not what I meant! I meant can I call his mother to come here and comfort him?"

"Meaning you'd also tell her the truth?" asked Taehyung with an arched brow.

Laylin nodded.

"The whole truth too if that is okay. He needs love from as much family as possible right now," said Laylin, "And I know we can trust her."

Taehyung nodded his head instantly which made Laylin smile.

"I'd like to get to know her better too as myself," said Taehyung, "Well, you know what I mean."

"I do," said Laylin as she slipped her phone out of her pocket.

With the conversation done, Taehyung moved to start walking back towards the kitchen before pausing to look back at her.

"Laylin - just for the record - Jungkook is really lucky to have you in his life."

Laylin smiled at that, matching Taehyung's smile as he turned to head back towards the kitchen while Laylin made the call. When Taehyung entered the kitchen, Jungkook was cleaning up the mess he had made. Taehyung could tell that he was trying to be brave but he could still see the evident hurt he was trying to hide. Taehyung moved to help Jungkook clean to make it go faster before grabbing him by the arm when it was done.

"Taehyung, what are you doing?"

"Just don't ask questions and come here," said Taehyung as he dragged Jungkook by the arm to the living room.

Jungkook had no idea what Taehyung had planned, but had no choice but to follow after him since Taehyung wouldn't let go of his arm. Soon they were standing in front of the couch. Taehyung moved to plop down onto it, tugging Jungkook down beside him since he still had a hold of his arm. Once Jungkook was beside him, Taehyung dropped his grip to instead put an arm about his shoulders.

"I want you to stop thinking about them," said Taehyung as he snuggled Jungkook close to him. "Just because they gave birth to us doesn't mean they are our family. We are family. Your mother that raised you is family just like Jimin and Hobi are mine. Not to mention you have Laylin."

"Laylin," said Jungkook softly as if he had forgotten about her in the midst of all his anguish.

"Everything will be okay," said Taehyung. "You'll see."

"I'm sorry. I will try to be stronger..."

"Kookie, I don't want you to be stronger. I want you to be you. It's safe to be that around me. Okay?"

Jungkook had been stronger for him earlier when he'd broken down at the office and now it was his turn to be strong for Jungkook. He kept his arm about him, rubbing a hand up and down his arm as Jungkook let out all the emotions he was feeling.

"I'm not going down there!"

"We have to look everywhere though!"

"Yes - we may have lost a cat - but do you not remember who this cat currently is?!" snapped Jimin. "There is no way on this green earth he climbed down into that!"

Jimin and Hobi stood on the side of the road as cars rushed past them in the afternoon traffic. After Namjoon and Seokjin had somehow lost sight of Yoongi when they tried and failed to get him and the cat to switch back, they had made a plan to split into teams of two to try to search for him. Hobi and Jimin had drawn the short stick too and were stuck with Yoongles while they searched.

"He might be down there and we can't afford to not check."

"Well then you go down there and check!"

"Someone has to stay here with the car and Yoongles and you're more...petite than me. You'd have an easier time getting down there," said Hobi.

Jimin glared at Hobi before looking down the trash infested embankment before him. It was steep and littered with unidentifiable debris. Jimin felt like he'd be infected just looking at it. Knowing he didn't have a choice, Jimin hitched up the legs of his expensive dress slacks as he slowly began to make his way down the embankment; his nose wrinkling in disgust.

"I hate you Hobi!" sang Jimin before emitting a half cough half gag when he came across a milk carton that was green. "I'm gonna die."

Hobi chuckled as he looked away from Jimin and over at Yoongles. Yoongles had been uncharacteristically still and compliant since Yoongi disappeared. He was still that way as he sat in the backseat and looked out the window at the street across the way. Hobi sighed as he looked at Yoongles.

"Can I get you anything?" asked Hobi even though he knew Yoongles wouldn't respond.

Yoongles looked over at Hobi when the question had been asked before shaking his head. Hobi was shocked the cat man even answered that much.

"We'll find him," said Hobi to reassure Yoongles before his attention was diverted back to the embankment Jimin had gone down as Jimin let out a shrill shriek. "You okay Jimin?"

"I think I just saw a mutant rodent," Jimin replied with a groan. "Hobi, I think you sent me down here to my death!"

"Well come back up then! Is Yoongi down there at all?"

"No but everything else under the sun is."

Hobi chuckled as he listened to Jimin sing a rendition of 'gross, gross, freaking unhumanly gross' in a high pitched voice as he practically raced back up the embankment to the vehicle they had pulled over onto the shoulder.

Yoongles turned away from Hobi as he tried to swat a bug off Jimin's shoulder as the other freaked out, looking across the lanes of traffic at a park across the way. His eyes widened when he saw a cat that looked very similar to his old body walking along the sidewalk behind a woman.

"MEOW!" Yoongles shouted, practically leaning across the backseat and slamming both of his hands against the window.

The commotion caught both Hobi and Jimin's attention as they saw that Yoongles was fascinated by something across the road. They looked in the direction that he was looking to see a cat that looked an awful lot like the one Yoongi was trapped in.

"That might be him!" said Hobi, "But we're on the wrong side of traffic!"

Jimin noticed that the cat was tailing a person, able to recognize the posh woman from a distance due to the amount of times he had dealt with her and her demands for Taehyung's sake. Without thinking, Jimin began to run across traffic, earning irritated honks from cars that had to slam on their brakes to avoid making him a hood ornament.

"JIMIN ARE YOU INSANE?!" yelled Hobi from where he stood on the shoulder, watching the insane choreography Jimin did as he dodged the traffic in the road.

"THIS IS STILL SAFER THAN THAT EMBANKMENT!" shouted back Jimin as he reached the small strip of island dividing one side of the road from the other, taking a moment to pause before running across the rest of traffic.

"He's insane," muttered Hobi as he moved to get back into the driver's seat after making sure Yoongles was buckled up in the back, driving the vehicle to catch up with Jimin who he was sure had lost his mind.
