37. Prowling
"You do realize that you look absolutely ridiculous, right?"
Hobi turned sideways to look at Jimin who had his nose tucked inside his shirt. The two of them stood on the sidewalk after being dropped off at the fish restaurant. Jimin hadn't been that enthused when Taehyung had asked them to return to ask Jin and his parents if they knew anything about the child that had been abandoned there. Even though Taehyung hadn't given a name over the phone, it didn't take Jimin a lot to figure out who that child was. If Taehyung wasn't his friend, he wouldn't be doing this.
"I don't care," said Jimin. "Lets just find Jin and try to get out of here as soon as possible."
Hobi rolled his eyes as he took the lead. He was about to open the front door of the restaurant when Namjoon decided to exit at the same time with a box in his hands. Not seeing Hobi attempting to enter the restaurant, he almost ran headlong into him with a box in his arms. Jimin – who had been following on Hobi's heels – jumped out of the way at the last second.
"Sorry! I didn't see you there!" said Namjoon as he looked at Hobi who had ungracefully ended up on his butt.
"It's fine," said Hobi as he moved to stand to his feet, dusting himself off.
"What brings you both here?" asked Namjoon; his eyes looking past Hobi at Jimin who still had his nose tucked inside his shirt. "I take it you're not here to eat some fish."
"No," said Hobi. "We were wondering if Jin was available."
"Ah, yes he is. He's just out back in the shed."
"Another psychic reading?' asked Jimin as Namjoon moved to walk towards the alley they had all trooped down before.
"No. He's actually trying to conduct some research for Taehyung and Jungkook during his break."
"Is he now?"
Namjoon nodded, depositing the box in his hands next to the dumpster in the alley. The three of them proceeded to continue towards the shed then; Jimin jumping at the last second as a tabby cat brushed up against his leg.
"Don't tell me you're scared of a cat."
"I'm not scared. I just don't like them. I've never liked them," said Jimin as he tucked his face down further in his shirt like he was some sort of turtle going back into his shell. "How can you forget that after knowing me for so long?"
"It's not like I forgot on purpose," snapped Hobi as Namjoon went over to the shed door to knock on it.
"I'll be right there!" came a panicked voice from within.
"Don't worry! It's just me," reassured Namjoon. "Hobi and Jimin are here. They said they wanted to see you."
"Oh!"
The three of them could hear evidence of some sort of struggle inside. It sounded as if the whole interior was booby trapped with the amount of clatter that could be heard before the door opened. Jin looked at Hobi and Jimin with a friendly grin on his face.
"What brings the both of you back here so quickly?"
"We have a question for you," said Jimin, finally deciding that it was safe for his nose to inhale some fresh air as he removed his face from inside his shirt. "We're hoping that maybe you can shed a bit of clarity on the issue."

Min Yoongi was known to many as the most efficient member on staff. He came across as cold to others because he was serious about his job. He was serious about getting it done and having it be done to the best of his ability. When asked what his secret to success was, he always told others that the secret was not making friends since making friends was for children. He told others the best way to be successful was to earn his living, go home, and worry about himself. Even though that wasn't a life that many would enjoy, Yoongi was perfectly content with the successful life that came from such a lifestyle.
When he had been told that his next job was to get Taehyung in shape for his latest album release after his disaster of a dinner the other night, Yoongi knew that he would have his work cut out for him. As he sat in the backseat of the car that was secretly tailing Jimin and Hobi, Yoongi scrolled through his phone to look at the various cell phone videos that were circling the internet of the dinner altercation. Some people thought Taehyung was a divo while others thought that he did the right thing 'sticking it to the man'.
It was as Yoongi was scrolling down to the bottom of one of those websites that he noticed one user had commented, 'Just saw Tae with a mystery woman.' His eyes strayed to the URL link that had been attached to it, clicking it with his finger. He was redirected to a new webpage - and as it was loading - he felt the car come to a stop. Lifting his eyes from his phone screen, he was able to see that the car that Jimin and Hobi had been riding in had come to a stop outside some sort of fish restaurant. Yoongi had heard of the place before but had never actually gone to it himself. After all, he wasn't the biggest fan of fish. As he had the car stop a little ways away to remain undetected, Yoongi couldn't keep the smirk from his face as he watched Jimin tuck his nose inside his shirt. Yoongi had to admit that he would do the same thing if he was to get out right now.
Yoongi's attention was diverted again when he noticed that his phone had finished loading out of the corner of his eye. He looked at the Instagram page and subsequent picture that he had been linked to. The picture was of a couple kissing. It was hard to make out the face of the woman as she had her back to the photographer who was obviously out on some sort of lake in a boat judging from the presence of water in the picture. Unlike the woman, it was easy to make out Taehyung's face as it was angled just so. Yoongi studied the photo, noticing in that frozen image of time how passionate the kiss was. His eyes looked at how Taehyung had one hand pressed against the small of the woman's back while the other was tangled in her hair. Yoongi wondered if this was why Taehyung had rebelled against his parents the other night. Perhaps it was some noble act of love.
"I'll fix this," muttered Yoongi.
He clicked his phone off, tucking it away before looking out the window again to see that Jimin and Hobi had moved closer to the fish restaurant. Another man had joined them since he had looked last. He was holding a box in his hands; a fish apron wrapped about his tall frame. Soon the trio was moving to head down some sort of back alley. Yoongi knew that he had to follow them in order to try to assess what was going on before he made his plan. Getting out of the car, he moved to follow them like a shadow. None of them noticed his existence. Yoongi knew that it would only be a matter of time until they did though considering how narrow the alley was becoming as it led towards whatever destination they were headed towards. When they stopped at the dumpster, Yoongi moved to hide behind a stack of nearby boxes. As he crouched out of sight, a tabby cat came to stand beside him. It was the only other creature that he found that he could relate to. Cats were just as standoffish as he was.

"I don't remember anyone leaving a child behind at our restaurant," said Jin after Jimin had asked the question Taehyung had wanted him to. "I can try asking my mother, though I'm surprised she wouldn't have ever told me something like that..."
"Thank you. Maybe your mother will have the answer that we're looking for. I just promised Taehyung that I would check," said Jimin. "So, what exactly were you researching before we came?"
"I was trying to see if I could help the two of them with their issue before it happened naturally," said Jin as he moved to go back into the shed. He came back out a few moments later with a book so thick and old that it would have put all the encyclopedias in the world to shame.
"And? Did you figure out anything?" asked Hobi.
"Well, no. I mean...sort of, I guess..."
"Why don't you just say 'no'?" asked Jimin as he rolled his eyes.
"It's because I do think I have it figured out, but it's hard to pronounce the words," said Jin. "Joonie, would you hold the book for me so I can show them?"
"Sure," said Namjoon; the end of the word coming out in a huff as Jin suddenly deposited the heavy book in Namjoon's outstretched arms.
"We need to point away from others too incase I do end up pronouncing something right," said Jin as he repositioned Namjoon so that he was facing a stack of boxes near a far wall of the alley by the dumpster.
Jin than began to rifle through the pages while Hobi and Jimin stood nearby. When he found the page that he was looking for, Jin came to a pause and cleared his throat before beginning to read.
Unbeknownst to any of them, Jin actually did pronounce the wording right - and even though he thought that he wouldn't be doing any harm since he was facing away from everyone - he ended up doing some anyway.
