17. En-Nerf

Even with everything going on, Taehyung was able to sleep more soundly than he had in a while. It probably had something to do with not being waken up early for rehearsals or not having repeated nightmares from the stress that came with being famous. Taehyung knew that he could continue to sleep for most of the day, but what finally woke him up around seven in the morning was his guilt about Jungkook having to deal with everything by himself. He let out a soft moan as he rolled over onto his side, hearing the soft puttering of someone in the kitchen.

He rolled out of the bed and put his bare feet down on the floor. Grabbing a white t-shirt off the back of the desk chair, Taehyung shoved it over his head before padding out in that and gray sweatpants to see what Laylin was up to. She was currently standing in the kitchen at the island. A lunchbox was open in front of her, and she was just putting a container meticulously inside. She could register him entering the room out of the corner of her eye, lifting her head to look at him with a soft smile on her face.

"Morning sunshine."

She chuckled as he came to stand beside her, reaching out a hand to rub it through his hair to try and put the stubborn cowlick atop his head flat.

"Morning," said Taehyung in reply with a semi-sleepy smile. "Heading to work now?"

"Yep. Living the dream right here," she said as she turned back to the lunchbox, zipping it shut.

Taehyung wondered how long Laylin's shift was, watching as she moved past him towards the front door with her lunchbox. She put it temporarily down on the small table there, trying to slip into her shoes.

"Same shift as usual then?"

"Yes unfortunately," said Laylin. "Like usual, I won't be home until around six. Are you going to be okay until then?"

"I'm gonna be fine," said Taehyung.

"Are you sure? I mean, you were in a coma not too long ago," said Laylin as she grabbed up her purse and lunchbox. "I wish I could take time off to stay with you, but..."

"Laylin," said Taehyung; the smile on his face growing slightly longer. "I'm gonna be fine."

She paused with the front door to the apartment half open for a moment as she looked him up and down before nodding. She gave him a brief wave of goodbye that he returned before shutting the apartment door and leaving for work.

As sad as it was to say, this was the first time that he felt truly cared for outside of Jimin and Hobi. He knew his best friends cared for him too, but there was something different about this care and concern. There was love laced in it.

"I don't know what is wrong with Jungkook," muttered Taehyung under his breath as he made his way back to the bedroom to look for clothes. "They act like a married couple...he's dumb to think she doesn't have feelings for him."

As Taehyung re-entered the bedroom, he noticed the cell phone that he left on the dresser light up as an incoming notification came in. Walking over, he snatched up the phone to see that it was a message from Jungkook. Apparently Jimin was already at it.

With a Nerf gun.

Taehyung knew then that the situation was serious and that he better head over to his place as soon as possible.

"Every time that you sing off key, I'm shooting you," said Jimin as he sat in a half slouched position by the door.

Jimin had the glass door to the sound booth propped open with his chair, sitting there with a Nerf gun on his lap. Jungkook stood at the microphone, keeping half an eye on Jimin as he reached up to adjust the headset on his head. His day had started off an hour and a half ago with Jimin leaning over his bed; a Nerf dart stuck to the center of his forehead. Jungkook reached up a hand to his forehead as if it was still there. Unfortunately Hobi - who normally calmed Jimin down - wasn't here yet. When Jungkook had gotten a two minute break to change and go to the bathroom, he had texted Taehyung for back up. Taehyung was apparently on the way.

"Start singing from the top," said Jimin as he lifted the Nerf gun half off his lap. "I'm waiting for a masterpiece."

Taehyung had never gotten ready that fast in all his life, and that included quick changes backstage at a concert. Tucking the phone in the pocket, he locked the apartment and went as fast as his recovering body would allow towards his house. As he reached the house, he noticed a car pull up outside. Stepping out of the backseat of the car was Hobi. He paused when he noticed Taehyung walking his way, pointing at him.

"Hey...it's you from the other day. Alphabet soup guy."

"Alphabet soup?" asked Taehyung as he come to a pause.

"You said you were Taehyung's ABC, so I connected it to alphabet soup."

"You have some weird associations," said Taehyung with a chuckle as Hobi cracked a grin.

"Anyway, what are you doing here?" asked Hobi.

"I'm here as Ju-" Taehyung paused quickly when he realized 'Jungkook' was about to leave his mouth. "...Taehyung's ABC. He texted me that Jimin had a Nerf gun."

"So that's where it went..." mumbled Hobi as Taehyung chuckled, watching Hobi walk over to press a code into the key pad by the gate.

Taehyung moved to stand beside Hobi as he punched the code in.

"By the way," said Hobi as the gate opened once the code was accepted. "Your shirt is on backwards."

Taehyung looked down at the shirt he had on, noticing that Hobi was right. Hobi chuckled as he stood by the open gate, watching as Taehyung tugged his arms back through the sleeves in order to spin the shirt around. Once the shirt was the right way, Taehyung let his arms back out through the sleeves.

"So what's your name again?"

"Jungkook," said Taehyung, remembering to say the right name this time as he moved to follow Hobi inside, shutting the gate behind him.

"And you both were in that car accident?"

"Yes," said Taehyung as he stopped behind Hobi at the front door.

"Well, it's nice that Taehyung finally has another friend even if you two did meet under horrible circumstances. You seem like a genuinely nice guy. It's hard for Taehyung to come by them these days with his success and everything," said Hobi as he opened the front door. Together, the two of them moved to slip inside.

"I'm sure he feels lucky to have you and Jimin too though, even if Jimin's temper is as short as..."

"STOP IT!"

Taehyung was cut off as Jungkook shouted out from upstairs. The shout was followed shortly by the thumping of feet running down the hall. Both Hobi and Taehyung stood by the recently opened front door as they watched Jungkook quickly run across the upstairs landing with Jimin on his heels.

"Shall we divide and conquer?" asked Hobi as he shut the front door.

Taehyung nodded as the two went up the stairs as fast as possible. The bedroom door slammed shut just as the two of them reached the landing. Jimin was stuck out in the hallway with the Nerf gun raised high in one hand. Hobi moved into action then; stepping up behind Jimin in a few quick strides and yanking it from his hand. With the Nerf gun no longer in his hand, Jimin turned around to see who took it.

"Hobi, give it back."

"You are too stressed, Jimin," said Hobi. "Whenever you sneak out of the house early in the morning with the Nerf gun - a Nerf gun that is supposed to be used for fun - I know. And now look what you've done! This hasn't helped the situation. Now Taehyung's just holed up in his room."

Jimin was about to say something in response to Hobi when he noticed Taehyung standing a little ways behind him. Jimin's eyes narrowed.

"Well if it isn't the ABC that made Taehyung disappear yesterday," said Jimin, reminding Taehyung of how he snuck Jungkook out through the balcony to go to supper at the apartment last night.

"Hello again," said Taehyung with a small smile.

Taehyung moved to walk past Jimin, squeezing between him and the door to the bedroom.

"I'll take care of Taehyung," Taehyung replied. "Hobi you can deal with Jimin since you have him disarmed."

"Who are you to take charge of the-"

Jimin's words were cut off as Taehyung knocked on the door.

"Hey, it's me," he said when he tried to turn the doorknob and noticed it was locked. "Can you let me in?"

"Is Jimin out there?"

"Yes, but Hobi's got him," said Taehyung.

True to Taehyung's words, Hobi had maneuvered himself so that he currently had one hand holding the Nerf gun by his side while his free arm was wrapped about Jimin to hold him close to his chest. Taehyung heard the lock click in the door, slipping inside immediately after. He shut the door behind him before locking it to make sure Jimin didn't try to sneak in. When Taehyung turned away from the door, he noticed that Jungkook was sitting in the middle of the bed with his knees tucked up under his chin. It saddened Taehyung to see Jungkook like that; like he was about to have a panic attack.

"Hey..." said Taehyung as he walked over to Jungkook. He moved to sit next to him on the bed.

As Jungkook turned his head to look at Taehyung, he could see how glassy the other's eyes had become. Taehyung reached out to grab his hands, holding them firmly in his as he locked his eyes on Jungkook's.

"Breathe..." Taehyung instructed softly, giving Jungkook an example of how to breathe in and out slowly.

"I...I don't know how you deal with this. I mean, I can't do this. I can't..."

"Jungkook, breathe..." repeated Taehyung softly, giving his hands a soft, reassuring squeeze.

Jungkook paused in talking, taking a deep breath in before letting it out slowly. Taehyung did it with him so that he could feel as calm as possible. This all brought Taehyung back to his first panic attack; the suffocating feeling that he felt alone in the bathroom stall. As awful as panic attacks were, he was happy at least that he could be here for Jungkook as he went through this.

Eventually Jungkook calmed down. Taehyung shifted to reach out a hand to brush the tears that had fallen free from Jungkook's eyes off his cheeks.

"Look, you can do this," said Taehyung. "Jimin...he's just intensely passionate."

"I'm not upset because of Jimin. I've been hit with Nerf darts before," said Jungkook, "I know it's stupid to get this worked up, but I feel like I'm going to end up ruining your career when I've already ruined your life by giving you my body..."

"First off, that wasn't your fault. This situation is neither of our faults," said Taehyung, "And for another, you didn't ruin my life. Things will be okay. We have each other. You're also not going to ruin my career."

"Every time I try to sing though, it's not right..."

Taehyung could tell that Jungkook was beyond stressed out, and knew that he had to do something about it. Getting up from the bed and leaving Jungkook there, he moved back towards the bedroom door. As he did, he could hear the muted voices of Hobi and Jimin in the hallway having some sort of passionate discussion. Unlocking the door and opening it, he saw that the two were in some sort of weird pretzeled position on the ground; Jimin trying to scramble free from Hobi's grip.

"Taehyung is done for the day," said Taehyung with authority, looking at the two of them on the ground. As Jimin was about to open his mouth to respond, Taehyung quickly added, "He's taking the day off. He kindly asks that you both leave for the day."

"Why doesn't he come out here and say it?" asked Jimin as he managed to get to his feet.

"Because he's tired of you," said Taehyung so bluntly that Hobi laughed.

"Tired of me?"

"With the utmost brotherly love," said Taehyung, forming a heart with his fingers. "See you both later I'm sure."

Taehyung shut the door before either of them could say anything else, re-locking it before walking back over to Jungkook.

"As you probably just heard, I'm sending them home for the day," said Taehyung. "That will give us the day to help you figure this out. This isn't a matter of you not being able to do it. It's a matter of being pressured and stressed. It's also due to you lacking confidence in yourself."

The more Taehyung was in Jungkook's shoes, the more he was aware of just how true the last part of what he said was. Jungkook seemed to lack confidence in multiple areas of his life. He wasn't confident about Laylin's feelings towards him, nor was he wasn't confident about his ability to sing. Taehyung wanted to be here to help Jungkook over this hurtle like he always wished someone would be there for him.

"Just...no Nerf guns," said Jungkook with a weak smile.

"Don't worry," said Taehyung with a small grin, "I have something else in mind."
