Todoroki Shoto x Rival!Reader: Realizations (part 2)

Here's a heavily requested part two! I hope you all like how it turned out it was a lot of fun to work on ^_^ Enjoy!

Having a rival was a lot like having a constant headache. It was annoying, it was distracting, and it sure as hell wasn't fun. Well, if you were being honest, it was a little fun.

Todoroki got flustered very easily, especially when he lost a match to you, which never failed to amuse you. Today you had beat him to class by at least five minutes, and even though it was downright petty, you couldn't help rubbing it in his face.

"Get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning Todoroki??" you gloated, leaning forward in your desk that was right behind his. You laughed at your own condescending words, and Todoroki slowly turned around to face you.

"Stop it y/n." he told you, with an icy glare. His words lacked any playful tone, and his eyes were boring into your own harshly. You gulped, suddenly feeling strangely intimidated by his cold demeanor. Usually he would retort back, or roll his eyes at you, but this was different and kind of unlike him.

"S-Sorry." you replied softly, leaning back down in your chair. He frowned and turned back in his seat. Neither of you spoke to each other that entire class period.

...

The day was finally over and you quickly packed up your things in your backpack, eager to get home and eat. You said goodbye to Yaoyorozu and Jirou, and left the classroom. U.A. was not really near your house, so you had to walk to the train station first and stay on the train for a few stops before you could get home. Luckily the station was close by though.

You walked in silence, trying to think of new uses for your quirk, before a familiar voice cut through your thoughts.

"Y/n! Wait for me."

"I don't feel like it." you said coldly, turning around and activating your quirk. Todoroki immediately stopped running so fast, and he frowned at you.

"Stop it y/n." he said, still frozen in place.

"Huh for some reason I'm getting deja vu right now. Oh yeah that's right, because you already told me that today!" you shouted, getting more and more agitated with him. Despite your annoyance, you still deactivated your quirk, not wanting to yell at him and use your quirk at the same time.

"I know I snapped at you. I just had a bad morning is all. My dad just said some upsetting things." he said looking down at the grey, cracked, sidewalk. He looked really sad in that short moment, and you felt compelled to try and say something comforting.

"Well there will always be bad mornings Todoroki. You...can talk to me about it if you want...I mean only if you want!" you said, cupping your face with your hands. "I mean I know we're competing with each other, but if we're having a hard time with something...we should let each other know."

Todoroki looked at you, his intense bi-colored eyes wide and shiny. He looked taken aback and shocked, as if no one had ever said anything like that to him before. He opened his mouth to speak, his voice quiet and soft. "Thank you y/n. That means a lot, especially coming from you."

"What do you mean? I'm always wise like this!"

"Pfft, no you're not. You're always mad and stubborn and you never want to admit when I'm right."

You shook your head furiously. "I don't really see the problem with those things! I'm awesome and you know it!"

"Yeah...you are." Todoroki said, and your mouth hung open. He didn't look like he was joking, which both frightened you and astounded you.

"W-WHAT!?" you exclaimed, your voice sounding more goat being choked than an actual human voice. You immediately tried to regain your composure though, and you cleared your throat loudly. "Ehm, I mean...thank you for saying I'm awesome Todoroki. You...are ok too."

"Wow thanks y/n." he replied, rolling his eyes and scoffing at you. "I'll cherish that compliment forever and ever."

"You're such an ass Todoroki! But you know, only I'm allowed to make you feel bad! You got that? Not your dad, not any shitty villains...only me."

"Roger that y/n. And only I will be able to always beat you when it comes to grades."

"Don't talk about my grades right now. I don't want to feel sick."

So, with that conversation out of the way, you and Todoroki walked to the train station in comfortable silence. Todoroki was good at being quiet, and even though you would never admit it, you liked being around a mellow person like him. It was very calming for you.

As you both approached the train station, you glanced at your phone to check the time. Your eyes widened and you groaned loudly. "I'm late, so I missed my usual train...ugh! Now I have to wait for an extra ten minutes!"

"Oh no y/n you might not make it."

"Shove off. It's no joke, I have tons of homework to catch up on and now I'm gonna be late!"

There was a pause in the conversation before Todoroki spoke up. "I-I can help you with your homework if you want."

"But we're competing with each other--"

"We need to help each other be better. Like...plus ultra right?" Todoroki said, raising his fist in the air weakly. People eyed you two as they walked into the station, and you waved your hands in front of your face wildly.

"Todoroki stop, people are staring."

"Yeah, they're probably staring at you."

"Hmph whatever!" you huffed, crossing your arms together. "But I accept your offer to help me with my homework...even though you know it's very painful for me to ask for help."

"I know, but it shouldn't take that long anyway." Todoroki said, and with that, he walked into the station. You hurriedly walked to match his brisk pace, making sure that you two were heading towards the right platform. The station was busy and loud, but when you were walking with Todoroki the whole world just seemed to melt away leaving only the two of you.

Ugh, what am I thinking!? This isn't some romantic situation y/n, we're in a loud and dirty train station for crying out loud!

"Y/n keep up, you might miss your train again at this rate." Todoroki said, looking over his shoulder at you with mild concern in his mismatched orbs.

"I-I...Todoroki wait. Hang on. I need to say something." you said suddenly, stepping over to the side near a dirty looking silver bench. He maintained his aloof expression, as he followed you to the bench.

"What is it y/n. You're acting stranger than usual." he said, his voice almost being drowned out by the incoming train. A slight breeze from the train whirring past you two ruffled his neat red and white hair and you felt your face growing warm. But it was now or never right?

"Todoroki, let's...get dinner sometime or something!" you yelled out, your voice coming out strong and determined despite the loud train that had finally stopped moving. "I want this to be a friendly rivalry, so let's just have dinner! Is that alright with you?!"

Just then, tons of passengers flooded out of the train rushing past you and Todoroki, who looked incredibly dumbfounded.

"Todoroki hurry up and say someth--"

"Yes! Let's get dinner y/n. I...want this to be a friendly rivalry too." he said, his face getting more and more flushed with every passing second.

Door closing...

"Shit!" you yelled as the warning sound cut through your conversation. You mustered all your speed lunging towards the train door and shoving yourself forcefully into the train car. Just as you were inside the crowded train, the sliding doors closed shut.

You moved to a small window and waved at Todoroki who was smiling softly at you from the platform. You gave him a thumbs up and beamed as the train started to move. It looked like he was chuckling as he gave you another weak 'plus ultra' fist.

You laughed, and watched as he just became a blur as the train picked up speed and disappeared into the dark tunnel.

I did it! That's plus ultra for you!
