Todoroki Shoto x Reader: First Impression

Todoroki was requested again (I guess I underestimated how popular he is lol) but I feel like I'm finally getting the hang of writing for him ^_^ The reader and Todoroki will both be in their first year so that's cool (plus with their addition to the class Mineta will not exist) and I decided that the reader will have the power to drain life energy and use it for themselves as a power up and they can also store it for later use. Enjoy!

"Oh y/n, you look great! U.A. doesn't know what'll hit them," your mom told you encouragingly as you two stood in front of the only full length mirror in your apartment, "because once you're there the stakes will be raised tenfold!"

"Hmm I don't know it's a really elite school, I don't even know how I got in." you said modestly, even though you were honestly confused. Your quirk, energy drain, did not work on robots so you only relied on stored up energy for the entrance exam.

I must've gotten really high marks for my written exam...ugh I'm so nervous!

Your reflection looked extremely flustered and nervous, but your mom gave you a reassuring squeeze on the shoulder.

"Don't worry sweetie, you'll kick ass. Now let's go, I don't want you being late for your first day!"

"Alright! Let's do this!!"

...

Oh shit this was a mistake...I want to go home already, was your first thought as you stood in front of the huge front gate at U.A. High. It was intimidating as hell, and you could feel your stomach churning with nervousness. This was the famous school that countless pro heroes graduated from. This was the school that All Might graduated from.

Did you deserve to stand in the same place that they did? You gulped and decided to at least try your very best.

"My class is 1-A...1-A...first class homeroom...and then general heroics." you muttered to yourself, as you tried to navigate through the large crowded hallway. There were so many people! You knew that not all of them were in the hero course though, but they still intimidated you. You bumped into many people on the way to your classroom, which just served to further embarrass you.

"Excuse me...oh! Sorry, I'm sorry..." you apologized to people as you bumped into them and tore through the crowd. You looked up and could see the class 1-A sign in the middle of the hallway, and to you it looked like a shining beacon of hope. Finally I can get out of this cramped hallway!

You stumbled into the classroom, and even though you barely made it out of the hallway, you were still five minutes early to class.

Your eyes scanned the room and your new classmates. You saw an angry looking blonde yelling at a serious looking guy with glasses. A nervous looking guy with green hair was observing them carefully, obviously hoping that a fight wouldn't break out.

Your eyes fell on an empty seat, in front of a boy with red and white hair who also had a serious expression on his face.

You breathed out and made your way to the back of the classroom to sit down. You pulled your chair out, and gave a quick smile to the boy. "Hi I'm y/n l/n, nice to meet you."

"Hi, I'm Todoroki Shoto." he responded, with an aloof expression. He looked at you for a one more second, his piercing eyes boring into yours. You gulped and looked away, quickly taking your seat.

I wonder who our teacher's gonna be...

"If you're here to make friends you might as well leave now." a sleepy voice cut through the classroom chatter. A humanoid form wrapped in a yellow sleeping bag, rolled into the classroom, which almost made you jump out of your seat in surprise.

"My name is Aizawa, and I will be your homeroom teacher." he said as he unzipped his sleeping bag and stepped out of it. "I want everyone to change into your hero costumes right now and go outside. We are going to have a fun little test. But the person with the lowest overall score will be expelled...good luck." he said leaving you all to process what he just told you.

...EXPELLED?!

...

As you changed into your hero costume, you couldn't help but feel like you made a serious mistake with the design. Your costume was a simple f/c jumpsuit, with a loose pant portion, but a skintight top portion that resembled a tank top. The back was also open, cut in a slick v-neck shape but at least the design team didn't make it too revealing. Your arms were exposed, since you needed as much arm mobility as possible for your quirk.

Your black combat boots were heavier than you expected but they were comfortable, so you couldn't complain. You were just worried about the test. What if your quirk was completely incompatible with the test and you got expelled? Man that would be so pathetic!

You followed the rest of the class outside (making sure to steer clear of the angry blonde guy) and you all stopped at what looked like a baseball field.

You inched closer to where Todoroki was, since he was the only one who you had talked to so far, and you gave him another small smile. He glanced over at you in your form fitting costume, and he looked up, suddenly fascinated with the sky. You raised an eyebrow, and you swore you could see a faint blush tinting his pale skin.

Aizawa spoke up interrupting your thoughts, "You all took physical exams in middle school that forbade you from using your quirks. But this is U.A. High, so today, I will be testing each of your quirks in a variety of ways like: a softball throw, a short dash, a grip strength test, and so on." he explained in a low monotone voice. "And of course as you all know, the student with the lowest score will be expelled...so first up for the softball throw is...Bakugou."

Bakugou? Who's that? you wondered, before you saw the mad blonde guy saunter over to the throwing mound. Aizawa handed him the ball, and Bakugou gripped it firmly, before bellowing out "DIE!!" and hurtling it up into the air with the help of a powerful explosion. Everyone in the class gasped and Aizawa held up Bakugou's score, 705.5 meters!

"Alright then," Aizawa said, "y/n you're up."

"O-oh ok!" you said running up to the mound. Aizawa handed you the ball, and you clutched it tightly. Alright y/n, just focus on sending energy to your arm to give you an extra boost... it'll be easy.

Your throwing arm began to faintly glow white as you activated your quirk. Your grip on the ball became stronger, you could feel intense energy coursing through your veins. Your classmates gasped as your arm began to glow brighter and brighter as you prepared to throw. Now!

With a huge blast, you launched the softball into the air, and the wind around you and your classmates began to pick up. You slowly de-activated your quirk and looked over at Aizawa to see your score. The tiny screen read "809.7 meters." Your heart leaped with joy at your score. Maybe U.A. wasn't as intimidating as you had thought.

All of your classmates eyes were on you as you left the mound, including a certain aloof boy's.

"Good y/n. Who's next?"

...

"Man! I can't believe the expulsion threat was a lie!" you exclaimed to Yaoyorozu, as you plopped down in your seat. After the test your class went back to the classroom to await more U.A. schooling. You and Yaoyorozu had started making small talk during the test, and she had impressed you when she said she got in through recommendations, and you had taken a liking to her.

"Sorry y/n, I suppose I should have told you." she said chuckling slightly. "But it just seemed obvious."

"Hmph...what about you Todoroki? Did you think it was obvious?" you asked him, turning around in your seat to face him.

"I guess it was pretty obvious...y/n." he replied softly, looking down at his hands.

"Darn it! Well you know what Todoroki? I thought your ice quirk was pretty cool, pun intended." you said. "If Yaoyorozu's quirk wasn't so efficient you definitely would've won the quirk test."

His multicolored eyes widened, as he asked, "Do you think so?" Little did you know that he had a whole other side to his quirk as well.

"Yeah definitely! I mean I'm almost all out of stored energy right now, so I really need to make my quirk become more efficient."

"I thought it was really cool though...when your arm glowed like that." Todoroki said. "Your quirk is really nice, I mean, it's obvious that you would excel at close combat." he said as if stating a simple fact. You had never even thought of such a specific application of your quirk, but it seemed so simple, now that Todoroki had stated it.

"Wow...thank you Todoroki...that's really nice of you to say." you replied, heat warming your face.

"Of course y/n, you're welcome." he said, turning his head up slightly, as a blush crept onto his face as well.

You were definitely glad that you had taken the first steps to being a hero at U.A. High, after all, it had led you to him.
