Midoriya Izuku x Reader: Why Him?

Another love triangle was requested, this time with Midoriya and Bakugou. Obviously Midoriya prevails because of the title, but I hope this is still interesting to read. Enjoy!

Middle School

"Hey Midoriya, did you hear that they're re-releasing that All Might documentary? I don't remember when it was made, but it's that famous one of him and Shield."

"Oh my gosh! That was during his prime years y/n! I'm so excited, they remastered it and everything. It's so cool!" Midoriya said, his face breaking into a huge smile. You quickened your pace and walked in front of him, your lips curling into a smile.

You loved talking to him about heroes because he always seemed to brighten up, especially since Bakugou had been so rude to him lately. You had often wondered what had happened between the two of them but whatever it was it had to stop eventually right?

"I'm going to watch it in theaters, wanna go with me?"

"S-Sure!" He said, looking a little flustered by your question. His cheeks turned red and he cast his eyes downwards towards the ground. "Y/n i-is this l-like--"

"OI DEKU!"

The two of you immediately tensed up at that familiar angry voice but Midoriya tried to seem unaffected by the blonde boy who was taking long strides towards the two of you. Bakugou looked angry as usual and you knew that all of it was directed at Midoriya. Surprisingly he had never really gotten mad at you before which you were grateful for, but that didn't mean you were going to let him bully Midoriya right in front of you.

"H-Hey Kacchan, what's up?" Midoriya asked him. Bakugou scoffed and glared at Midoriya with such fierceness that made even you flinch back.

"What's up? You know what the fuck is up! You applied to U.A. High you shitty nerd!" Bakugou roared, narrowing his red eyes.

"Newsflash Bakugou, all three of us applied to U.A. High. It's the best hero school in Japan." you said with a roll of your eyes. "We'd be idiots not to apply."

"You're not fucking quirkless y/n! Stay out of this!" Bakugou said, clenching his fists together. He was just becoming angrier and angrier but you were determined to just stop his little temper tantrum right here and now.

"Shut up Bakugou, just shut the fuck up!" you shouted at him, stepping in front of Midoriya so you could face Bakugou head on. You glared at him, and his crimson eyes widened. "Midoriya and I are going to be U.A. students and there's nothing you can do about it. Let's go Midoriya."

You turned on your heel, Midoriya matching your quick pace. Bakugou didn't try to stop you two. He just stared at you with his mouth wide open.

...

3 months later

You never thought about that about that fateful day much. You weren't aware of the effect that that day had on both of the boys involved but you were far too busy with trying to keep up with your 1-A classmates to worry about those two. They were all so talented and Midoriya had even surprised you with his new quirk!

He claimed that he was just a late bloomer but you had noticed All Might hanging around a bit more with him than the other students, so there must be some connection there. But either way you were just happy for him. He finally had a chance to be like the heroes he loved so much.

And Bakugou...well he was slightly more mellow now that some of the brave students in 1-A had befriended him. You were happy for Bakugou. It was good that he had some real friends instead of just random people that hung around him because they were too scared to confront him.

Bakugou had been avoiding you completely after the day you told him to be quiet nicely (at least that was how you remembered it) and you decided that maybe it was time to bury the hatchet with him.

Midoriya still needed to face Bakugou on his own...you just had to do this for yourself.

Once it was time for a lunch break, you took a steady breath out and walked up to his desk. His eyes traveled up to yours and he scowled. "What is it?" He spat angrily.

"I wanna talk. Now." you replied trying to sound as intimidating as possible. Bakugou's glare intensified but he got up from his seat and motioned for you to follow him out into the hallway.

He leaned against some lockers, shoving his hands into his pockets like he was a delinquent. "Spit it out then y/n." He told you and you nodded.

"I just wanted to say that...I'm glad that you're doing fine here and I'm happy you've got some friends. Whatever made you angry at me back in middle school I don't really care about that anymore." You explained, while he just listened to you with a semi-calm expression on his face. "We're both different now and we're both in the same boat now, being in the same class and all...so what happened in the past...let's just leave it there ok?" you said.

You wrung your hands together waiting for his reaction. Bakugou stared at the ground before throwing his head back and cackling like a maniac. "I wish I could fucking just leave it in the past believe me! You...you don't know what you did to me back then y/n. You were my first...my first crush!"

You took a step back, your stomach in knots because of what he just confessed to you. He gazed at you before rolling his eyes. "But I know you like that damn Deku...I just want to know why. Why him and not me?"

"I don't...think I like Midoriya like that." you replied lamely. Bakugou scoffed at you, turning his head to the side.

"Just the way you look at him...any dumbass could see you like him. I just want to know why." His red eyes met yours and for a moment you were at a loss for words. You never thought you looked at Midoriya in any sort of special way but now that someone was pointing it out maybe there was a chance that you had liked him for a long time.

You crossed your arms over your chest and sighed. "Well...he's the nicest person I've ever met and I just want to see him be happy. If that means that I like him well then I guess I like him."

Bakugou's eyes seemed to grow pained for a short moment, but then his usual scowl graced his face. "Shit...that's all I wanted to know." He said, furrowing his eyebrows slightly which formed a crease. You felt compelled to reach up and touch it, but you decided against it.

Instead you just said what you were feeling. "Bakugou I'm sorry. I j-just didn't know about your feelings...if I had I wouldn't have been so cold to you back then."

"Y/n, I thought we were leaving that shit in the past." Bakugou replied, his scowl becoming less intense. "Deal?"

"Deal."

...

Unsurprisingly you were distracted by your conversation with Bakugou for the rest of the day and your head spun with confusing thoughts. But you did know one thing now.

You liked Midoriya, and you knew that you should be honest with him and confess. Of course you were afraid of rejection but you had to a least try. If Bakugou could be honest about his feelings then you could too!

Midoriya offered to walk you home like always and you thanked him as always. While you two walked you could practically feel your heart start to beat faster. You eyed the way his curly hair bounced as he walked and how his hands held onto his backpack straps tightly, which you were know just realizing was extremely cute.

C'mon y/n! This is it. The worst he can say is no right?

He was walking a few paces ahead of you and you took a few quick steps to catch up to him. "Hey Midoriya. Do you want to have dinner at my house tonight?" you asked him. He smiled at you and nodded.

"Sure, that sounds fun." He said. You grinned and tugged at the collar of your shirt which suddenly felt very tight around your neck. You took a breath out, and bit down on your lip. "Y/n are you alright? You look a little pale."

"O-Oh! I'm fine, just a little nervous." you replied, a slight stammer in your voice. He cocked his head to the side, obviously confused by your answer.

"What're you nervous about?" He asked, his eyes boring holes into your own.

"W-Well, I realized something today a-and I know this is coming out of the blue...but do you want to go on a date with me?" You asked him. He stopped in his tracks with his mouth gaping open in surprise. You gave him a small smile and watched as his face turned a bright red that reached even the tips of his ears.

He ran his hands through his green hair, messing it up even more. "Y-You want to go on a d-date with me? Wh-Where do you w-want to go y/n?" He asked you and you shrugged your shoulders.

"It doesn't matter, as long as I'm with you." You said breathlessly. He smiled widely and held his hand out to you.

"A-Alright. Let's shake on it then!" He said, which made you giggle at him. You took his rough hand in yours, admiring how warm to the touch it was. The two of you shook hands and laughed together before continuing on the walk to your house.
