Kacchako: Ignited Fire
This is my second ship oneshot yaaay!! Kacchako was requested a while ago, and I honestly love pairings with height differences and mutual respect (also this Horikoshi sketch is just really cool). I aged them up a little bit, so they are both graduated and are new up and coming pro heroes. I'm also trying something new by having little snapshots of their lives in different sections (like oneshots within a oneshot). Enjoy!
"Ground Zero, I've lost sight of you! Where are you!?" Uraraka yelled hoarsely into the small communicator in her ear. Smoke billowed around her making her eyes water. Dust and dirt clung to her hair, and coated the large warehouse-like room she was in.
All she remembered was Bakugou yelling at the group of four villains, and setting off a giant explosion right in the center of the warehouse. Thankfully she immediately heard Bakugou's voice coming through the earpiece.
"I'm chasing this fucker on the second floor--where--I need--shit--" muffled grunting and fighting could be heard, making Uraraka worry.
"Ground Zero you're cutting off, I'm going to the second floor!" Uraraka said swiftly running up the concrete stairs. This was definitely not an ideal fighting situation for her, there was nothing to control in the warehouse, and she didn't have enough time to go around picking up rocks.
Uraraka swung open the large metal door at the end of the stairs. "Put your hands where I can see them! I'm a pro hero!" she yelled, her loud voice echoing throughout the large room. The large empty room.
"Huh?" Uraraka swept her eyes over the room, but no one was there. Her heart dropped, and her blood ran cold. "G-Ground Zero, do you copy? Where are y-you?"
She only heard static.
Maybe they moved to another floor? Uraraka thought as she tried to keep a level head. As she walked around the room, she heard a slight crunching sound under her foot. She lifted her foot slightly and gasped. Bakugou's earpiece!
Suddenly she heard a faint booming sound coming from overhead. They must be on the roof! "Alright then, let's do this!" she yelled, as she sprinted straight towards one of the large windows in the room.
She crashed through it, glass shattering all around her. Immediately she pressed her finger pads together activating her quirk. She floated up to the roof of the three story building as quickly as she could. She caught sight of Bakugou who was taking all of the fire from the villains, but he didn't too heavily seemed injured.
"Ground Zero!"
"It's about time Uravity! C'mon let's finish this dammit!"
...
After the fight Uraraka was still hopped up on adrenaline. She leaned her back against the cold concrete wall on the outside of the warehouse and closed her eyes, trying to slow down her hammering heart.
"Oi Uraraka, you're bleeding everywhere." Bakugou said interrupting her small meditation. She furrowed her brows and pouted.
"Really? I don't feel anything though--"
"Shit, here lemme clean it." Bakugou said, whipping out a clean cloth from his pocket. He leaned in close, gently pressing and dabbing around a particularly grisly cut on her scalp.
"Ow! Darn it. That must've happened when I jumped through the window."
"You jumped through one of those huge windows!?"
Uraraka smiled at his reaction. "Of course. We're a team and you needed me. It was a lot quicker than using the stairs anyway."
"Shit, just don't be so reckless next time!" Bakugou lectured, removing the cloth that was now slightly damp with bright red blood.
"I can't believe you're lecturing me about being reckless..."
"I'm a lot more careful than you think Uraraka!"
...
Whew that meeting was so long!
Lately there had been countless civilians complaining about the constant damage villains and pros dealt to urban areas. Uraraka was called in to the meeting, because her quirk would be perfect for helping to repair a lot of the damage. She had agreed to put in overtime hours just for repair missions.
Uraraka quickly walked down the long office hallway, towards her own office, eager to get home and rest.
"Oi Uraraka, are you going home?" she heard Bakugou ask from his own office as she passed by it.
"Yeah I'm beat, that meeting went on forever."
"I wasn't invited to that meeting!"
"Hmm, probably cause your quirk isn't cut out for repairing buildings. It actually does the opposite."
"That's bullshit, I'm still a damn pro at this agency...whatever...just pick me up some spicy curry at that shitty takeout place before you go home." Bakugou said, only looking up at her once as he furiously typed on his laptop.
"You're not coming home yet?"
"No I have to write some dipshit and apology letter. Can you believe that!?"
Uraraka smiled and chuckled and her angry boyfriend. She was used to his outbursts, and she knew just how to handle them. "Oh, you mean that guy that you shoved so hard that he sprained his wrist?"
"I was pushing him out of the way! I saved his fucking life!" Bakugou yelled, slamming down the space bar angrily.
"I believe you Bakugou. Don't worry I'll get the curry."
"Thank fucking god."
...
Uraraka wasn't usually one to complain. In fact she almost never complained about trivial things. But even she had her limits.
Bakugou had recently stopped coming home almost completely, preferring to spend nights on patrol with other pros. It's not like Uraraka could judge him for that though. She's a hero just like him. But she definitely tried her best to carve out time in her busy schedule for just the two of them.
She relished in the short but sweet moments that they would have at the office, and she definitely enjoyed the heart-pounding excitement of a successful mission with Bakugou.
But she didn't think their relationship should just be about hero missions. There needed to be more.
It was almost eleven o'clock, when Uraraka decided to give him a call. She fished her cellphone out of her purse, and dialed Bakugou. It only rang once before Bakugou answered, his gruff voice sounding extremely tired.
"What's up?" he asked and Uraraka paused for a moment, trying to gather her scrambled thoughts.
"Hey, I didn't know if you were still out on patrol or..."
"Nah we ended early. Nothing was happening, for once. Why're you calling?"
"I just wanted to know...if you were coming home or not." Uraraka said, her voice becoming small. She tried to hide the sadness in her voice. She wondered if Bakugou could hear how tense she sounded over the phone, or if he would willingly ignore it.
"...Of course U-Uraraka. I'll be there soon," Bakugou said, surprising softness in his usually gruff voice, "you don't have to wait up for me if you don't wanna."
"Hmph obviously I'm gonna wait up for you. See you soon."
"Alright bye."
Uraraka tossed her phone on the couch, and plopped down with a huff on the couch. The stress of the day seemed to be catching up to her all at once.
Bakugou did in fact show up soon, it only took him a few minutes to get home. Granted he did cut off a few unhappy people on the highway who were going just too damn slow for him. But he wasn't going to lose sleep over that.
He shuffled into the living room, preparing himself for the unavoidable onslaught of affection that Uraraka would give him. But instead of a shower of kisses, he was met with extremely loud snoring and a passed out Uraraka.
"Shit." Bakugou said eloquently. He leaned down and gathered her into his arms, before hoisting her up off the couch. She didn't even open her eyes, but her snoring started to subside a little. He carried her down the short hallway and into their small bedroom, trying not to think about how cute she looked when she was fast asleep like this.
