Chapter 2

I woke up refreshed and recovered, no trace of a migraine lingering in my head. I didn't get what Terrakion was worrying about; I would always be fine once I got a little sleep. I guess he was just being his overprotective self when he offered to cancel his journey. In fact, I, myself, would have been disappointed if we didn't leave for a few days. Even though the lack of vegetation wasn't the cause of my increased migraines, I still hate being without trees and bushes, or at bare minimum, grass.

"Terrakion!" I shouted as I scampered into the main area of Terrakion's home. "See, I'm all better! You won't have to wait on your trip to Post Town."

He smiled when he saw me barrel through the passageways of the home he made. "If that's the case, then you better start filling your Adventure Bag. It's about time you started learning how to become independent, especially because of that reason." He smirked as I squirmed from wanting to know what 'that' was.

"That?" I questioned.

"Yup. That," he responded.

"That."

"Uh-huh."

Finally, I could no longer keep my curiosity in. "And that is..."

"Okay, that... is something you'll find out later!"

"Terrakion, you're so unfair!" I whined, desperate to find out what the surprise was. "You know it irks me when you do that!" He chuckled and set his hoof upon my shoulder, patting it a few times.

"Aw, Virizion, you sound just like a mini Cobalion when you use 'irks'!"

"Terrakion!" Once again, he began laughing, though they soon started to turn to snorts.

"Okay," he began, once he had calmed from his laughing fit. "I'll stop, since you need to finish packing."

"I'm already ahead of you, on that!" I announced, gleaming as I shifted the bag into view. Terrakion smiled at my preparedness, and, after working his own Adventure Bag over his head, turned towards the cave's entrance.

"Then I'm guessing you're ready to leave?" He asked, though by the amused glint in his eye, I could tell he already knew the answer.

"Yeah, definitely!" He gestured for me to follow him, and I bolted out of the cave.

"Hey, not so fast! You still don't know the paths well, so you need to stick with me!" Terrakion called out to me. I skipped around to face him, noticing the admirable distance between us.

"If you're supposed to keep me safe, shouldn't you be the one keeping up with my pace? A Rescue Team doesn't pick the pace for the client, and I know you know that, since you and Coballion would always go on missions together! Hurry up, Slowpoke!"

"Who ya calling a Slowpoke? Now you better not let me catch up, 'cause here I come!" As I watched him started charging towards me, I squealed as I turned around, laughing while I dashed away. Looking back, I saw that he was slowly gaining on me.

"Race you to the next big turn!" I called back as I put more energy into running.

"Well, that's not fair! You got a head start!" As if to copy me, Terrakion started speeding up, the unfair head start that he had just complained about slowly coming to nothing. Before I could get too far, and before I could even see the next curve in the road, Terrakion pummeled past me, and I was left to choke on his dust. I ended up seeing the turn not too long after Terrakion passed me, and came to a halt in front of my travelling companion.

"I just don't get it, how can you run so quickly on those stubby legs? I should've totally won!" I complained as I panted.

"It's not always the obvious thing that let's something happen. I'm much stronger and I run more often, while you always walk to the places you go. Plus, you gave up after I passed you, right?"

I hung my head, ashamed. "Yeah, you're right. Sorry I didn't give it my all."

"It's okay, Virizion, just remember that you can't give up so easily, especially if you want to join a Rescue Team: if you're in a tough spot, you can't always say, 'oh well, better luck next time'."

"I get what you're saying. Thanks for the lesson."

"Anytime. Let's keep going so we can get to town before night time." I nodded in compliance, and we kept on walking. I didn't see what Terrakion was worried about, as it wasn't long before I had to stop in wonder. "Virizion? What's up?" he asked when I halted.

"That's it, isn't it..." I murmured under my breath.

"Huh? What is what?"

"It's... It's Post Town!" My voice raised an octave as I dashed under the wooden archway, leaving Terrakion in a bit of a daze. As I ran into the center of the town, standing on the stone mosaic impressed into te ground, I spun around, my eyes darting every which way.

There was just so much to see!

It was hard to figure out what to look at first. Everything was so colorful, what with the small shops having been built in the shape of the Pokemon who ran it's head-- a Chinccino, a Ramparados, a Cofagrigus, and a Kecleon. I frowned a bit when I my eyes landed upon the shop run by a Kecleon, as it reminded me of my times at Treasure Town, but my excitement was quickly restored whan I turned to see the large building behind me.

"Whoa..." I breathed in awe as I had to tilt my head back to see the full structure.

"Virizion! Slow down a bit!" I heard Terrakion call from behind me, and I instinctively turned around to look at him. "Besides, I haven't told you about that!"

My mind flashed back to this morning when he mantioned the surprise, and I realised I had forgotten about it in all of my excitement. "Oh yeah! What is it, what is it, what is it?"

"It... is..."--I was practically shivering out of anticiapation--"the fact... that..."

"Any day now, Terrakion."

"Okay, fine, I'll stop stretching it out." With a warm smile, he looked into my eyes as he said the next part. "I know you've always wanted to be a part of a Rescue Team, and that you weren't able to back in Treasure Town because you couldn't find any team members. But, I was talking to Swanna when I was last here, and she told me this: You don't need any team members to make a team here. You can have a Rescue Team of one.

I was almost literally jumping for joy at Terrakion's words. Finally, after months of waiting, I could join a Rescue Team, I could help people, I could do what I always felt was the right thing I should have been doing all along! I couldn't contain my excitement any longer. I dashed away from Terrakion, trying to find out where I needed to go to start my own Rescue Team.

"Slow down, Virizion! Make sure you don't run into anything--or anyone!"

I turned my head to call back to him. "I won't!"

The next thing that happened was one of the most important things that had ever happened to me. Maybe it was destiny. Maybe it was fate. Maybe it was sheer, stupid luck. But I would have never have guessed that something so little could change my life forever.

I did exactly what I had told Terrakion I wouldn't do: I ran into someone.

When my legs hit another Pokemon, I came to a halt from hitting them. "Oh, I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going, especially after Terrakion was just telling me that I should be careful, and--Sorry!" My words came out in an apolegetic jumble as I tried to make up for knocking the smaller Pokemon over.

"It's okay, I've run into plenty of others; it can get pretty crowded here," The Pokemon I knocked over, an Axew, said as the Snivy besides him helped him to his feet. The axew looked up at me and gasped. "I've heard of you, you're Virizion!" I was a bit shockedthat he knew my name. Was it because of Terrakion and Cobalion? They seemed to be a bit famous. "Anyways, I'm Dragoon,"--he held his arm out to gesture to the Snivy who was somewhat hiding behind him--"And this is my friend Serphisa! Nice to meet you!"

It's been forever, but here's the next chapter! And the plot has already sped up a lot, huh? That's 'cause I decided to try and make this a short story like the first book, and 'cause I couldn't think of any filler-yet-not-filer stuff. Yeah. But enjoy!
