Chapter 1
I danced about the small green space I had created, laughing joyously. Finally, I had defied the rocky terrain and grew my own patch of grass. Grassy Terrain, works like a charm.
I settled down near a small bush, and sighed. Hopefully the foliage would help my health problems: migraines. Ever since I left Treasure Town to live with Terrakion, I had migraines almost every day, and they seemed to get worse. Terrakion just hoped that this means that I’m finally hitting the end of my migraines; it’s darkest before the dawn, he’d always say. I thought it meant that I’m missing something, like I’m having an allergic reaction, but the opposite. And when I thought about it more, when I came to live with Terrakion on the mountain, there was no plant-life to be seen. And I was already feeling better, which proved my theory true.
Suddenly, the greenness around me erupted into a spout of pain, and I instinctively squeezed my eye lids tighter than a vice to relieve some of the pain. The darkness only lasted for a second before a blurry, pixilated image took its place. All it was was a pink blur that moved up and forward. Something bulky was poking my side. There was a muffled sound, undecipherable, unknown. I felt groggy, tired. So complicated, and yet, nothing. Complicated nothingness, though I knew it meant something. Maybe it was from before I received amnesia, who knows? Pain. Blurs. Feeling. Movement. Sound. Nothing. Something. Complicated.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, the pain withered away and I opened my eyes to the small meadow around me. Another migraine. I guess plants didn’t solve anything, after all. Discouraged, I began my way back to Terrakion’s cave, exhausted and depressed. Though it wasn’t a long walk, I still felt like I had no energy left in me; Migraines took a lot out of me.
“Ah, there ya are, Virizion! I was wondering where you’d been for the last while,” Terrakion greeted me when I walked in.
“Oh, not far,” I said, panting slightly. “I was just doing a little test not too far from here.” I winced as an aftershock from the migraine stabbed its way through my brain. “It didn’t work.”
Sympathy washed over Terrakion’s face as he recognized the way I winced. “Migraine?” he asked, although he already knew the answer.
“Yeah. They’re still getting worse.” By worse, I didn’t really mean how painful they were, but more the duration of the pain. Back in Treasure Town, I never got ‘aftershocks’, I only got migraines. Suddenly, I really wished I could have been accepted by the townsfolk. And not for the first time, I wondered about my past. What had I been before the amnesia? A criminal? An outlaw? A crook, a thief? What had I done?
Shaking my head, I gave up on trying to figure it out. Coballion didn’t tell me, so it must not have mattered. Again, I sighed, though this time mentally. I had always felt a little bad about leave him back in Treasure Town, but right now, the guilt hit me full-force. Cobalion, the Pokémon who had saved me from my injuries that had given me amnesia and tried to help me fit in, was still in Treasure Town, abandoned, because of me. I mentally winced at how much of a jerk I was. Between the migraines and the guilt, I had had more than enough of everything today.
“I’m going to bed,” I mumbled, exhaustion once again taking its hold on me.
“Okay, but before you do, I just wanted to say that I was thinking about heading to Post Town tomorrow, but if you’re not feeling well, I can postpone it. And I’m not very comfortable with you staying here alone; if there are any rock slides, I wouldn’t be able to protect you from them.”
“Okay. Don’t’ worry about me; I’ll be fine after a good sleep. I’ve lived my whole post-amnesia live with them haven’t I?” I gave an emotionless laugh before walking to my room.
“Don’t forget, I can always go later.”
“Good night, Terrakion.”
“Yeah, good night.”
