Chapter 9: You Say You're Fine
Josh's POV
I watched Tyler as he slept. He looked peaceful, these past few days seemed to show in him. I couldn't stop thinking about yesterday. Tyler hardly ever snapped like that, and he just seemed like someone else. Could his strange behavior have something to do with what happened?
I really hoped not. Tyler wasn't helping either. Before I came back into the room I had heard him talking to himself again. It bothered me that he didn't even acknowledge he'd been up to something when I came back. It was his little secret. I wonder what he talked about.
I looked at my friend as he slept. He kept turning his head as if he was in the middle of a bad dream. Making a quiet noise now and then. Reliving the accident I'm sure. I debated whether or not to wake him, if I did he probably wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. I settled for patting his arm. He stopped moving and calmly began to sleep again.
Sighing I sat back in the chair. What is going on with you? I thought looking at Tyler. He was lucky to be here right now. I don't know what I would do if anything happened to him. I couldn't think about it too long. I hoped that he felt that he could confide in me about anything. I wouldn't judge. But if he wasn't ready to tell me what was on his mind, then I was willing to wait.
After waiting for 30 more minutes, Tyler's parents came to see him. I let them have a moment of alone time with him. I didn't want him to think that any of this was his fault. It could have happened to anyone. As soon as he woke up he immediantly began apologizing to his parents. That was when I decided to slip out of the room. Their voices quickly faded to murmurs as the door muffled them.
I waited outside the door patiently. All I could do was think about weather of not I was going to confront Tyler about what I'd been hearing and noticing. I thought better of it though remembering how he reacted last time. Maybe whatever that was bothering him was a subject he didn't feel comfortable with. After waiting for I don't know how long, his parents came out.
I smiled and sat up. "Thank you for staying with him Josh." Tyler's Mom said to me.
"Of course Mrs. Joseph. It wasn't a problem. Is he going to be okay?" I asked.
"Thankfully nothing is broken, and the doctor said he just hit his head. He should be fine for the time being." She answerd. I mentally sighed in relief. "You should go and get some sleep, you've been up quite awhile." Mrs. Joseph told me.
"What about you guys, will you be okay?" I asked.
"Don't you worry anymore Josh, we'll be fine." She reassured me. I nodded, and decided to say goodbye to Tyler first.
"Do you mind if I say bye before I head out?" I asked them.
"Go right ahead." Tyler's Dad said. I pushed the door open quietly, and looked towards the bed to see Tyler's brown eyes already staring at me.
"Hey fren." I said as I made my way over to his side. He smiled and said a quiet ''Hey" back. After a moment of silence Tyler finally spoke.
"Sorry for being stupid and nearly dying." He said.
"It's alright man. Just try to be careful next time." I replied.
"Next time?" Tyler smirked at me.
"I mean, don't do it again!" I laughed. I decided to confront him then. "So what got into you earlier? At the concert?" Tyler's smile faded.
"I was just nervous. I'm okay now. I'm sorry I snapped at you." He answered.
"Its fine Ty, I just worry sometimes." I said.
"I'm fine." He told me. I know he kept saying he was, but he just seemed a little off to me. The smiling boy seemed to have lost his glow as he laid here in his hospital bed.
"I hope you can forgive me Jish." Tyler said making a puppy face.
"Jish?" I laughed at his nickname for me.
"Please Jish? Jishwa." Tyler began to slowly pull me into a death grip. I laughed as he tried to hug me. "Jishwa please." He kept saying. "Jish."
"Okay okay I forgive you. Now let go before you rip an IV out or something." I laughed shoving him away playfully. He smiled at his win. I moved back to the bed side.
"Josh... I want to go to L.A." Tyler said suddenly. I looked at him.
"What?"
"I think we should take the L.A offer. After what happened tonight, I think we should do it. We might not get another chance." He said. I nodded in understanding.
"Are you sure you're up for this?" I asked him. He nodded.
"Okay, if you feel ready then I'm all for it. I can set it up with our producer." I smiled. This was going to be big. Remembering his parents orders, I decided to wrap up. "Get some sleep buddy, I'm going to go now, but I'll be back first thing tomorrow okay?" Tyler nodded.
As I was walking out I heard him call out.
"Night Jish."
I smiled.
